I hiked this on Tuesday. The trail was quite muddy and slick. The lake is frozen and covered in snow. Beautiful little rainbows reflecting in the snowflakes. I passed 5 people on the trail. It took me 3.25 hours.

I got plastered by artificial snow makers trying to find the trailhead by the Brighton Ski resort, but once found it was a great hike! It was fairly quick, even with the snowfall on the ground. I loved skipping rocks on the frozen lake and hearing those cool Star Wars noises.

Beautiful and short trail

Beautiful views almost the entire time! It was a gradual incline until the last mile before the lake, but still
totally doable. Sadly .5 miles to the lake the snow pack dies out and you would need snow shoes to get through the final section so we had to turn around. Bummer, but the views up to that point were awesome.

Did this trail yesterday, it hard to follow the trail with the recent snowfall and quite slippery due to icy areas, but worth the challenge and inspiration for capturing both visually and mentally the solitude of this area. Simply beautiful.

This trail was amazing!
made my legs burn but so worth it!

Absolute murder - take your time on descent as some parts are loose. Very rewarding little peak.

Great hike, really beautiful. 3-6 inches of snow and lightly snowing all day. Well worth the uphill climb.

Beautiful trail that goes up and up and up and up. I finally made it to the rocky observation point out of the woods and turned back there.

I love this trail, I’ve been here several times and great incline not too steep but long. When you bet to “top” of that branches into couple trails. On the right. Ore covered and foresty and left more views and more of the similar incline as the beginning.

Favorite hike to get some headspace!

****ATTENTION****

As of October 30 Cecret Lake Trail is closed. In fact, the only road to the trail is closed for construction.

This is a fabulous drive that any 4wd can handle. It’s narrow and rocky, but nothing technical. The views are beautiful on both sides of the Wasatch range. I was impressed by how many campgrounds are spread around near the trail. I can’t wait to come back for some summer camping.

Did this hike on 10/28/18. We made it to all three lakes. There was lots of snow, but most of it was packed in so you were not sinking down with every step. Wear proper hiking shoes and gear (we did not bring hiking poles but wish we did!). It was a gorgeous hike! The best part was that we were the only ones at Lake Catherine. I think the snow scared people off! Definitely recommend this hike.

Loved this hike! Not as steep as Red Pine but longer. I’d agree with others who’ve characterized this as moderate rather than difficult. The lake at the top is a gem. Still doable without poles or traction but It is a bit slippery in spots though, especially once it starts warming up. The snow is packed now so you don’t really need gaiters.

Fast, fun, family friendly hike. We enjoyed climbing on the rocks at the end near the waterfall and exploring some caves off the main trail.

The start was very rocky and not what I was expecting. Once you make the turn towards the creek, it’s beautiful. The elevation gain was slow and steady. Some parts are over grown do your not sure where exactly the trail leads. Would go again in the spring.

For ADVANCED bikers only, hikers don’t even try!!!

Holy hell. I mostly fell all the way down.
I’ve been up and down Dry Creek several times with no incident. This time, I wanted to try going down Bobsled. There was a guy at the top who was like, “Have you been down this before? Be careful,” before ripping down the trail ahead of me. Ok dude, you wouldn’t have said this if I was a big guy with a fancy bike but whatever...
Except this is HARD!!! I’m a new biker and my bike definitely needs a tune-up. I’ll only do this again if my brakes are at 100% in the future.
The flow was absolutely fantastic, it reminded me of carving while skiing (which I’m much more experienced at) since the trail was very curvy and had a lot of jumps. I truly had no idea mountain biking could be like this. For my hardtail bike with weak brakes combined with my inexperience...I wiped out several times. And once really badly.
I think hikers would be fine up until Bobsled, but don’t even try going up or down Bobsled. It is absolutely a bikers trail and you will be obliterated.
I’d definitely recommend it for my more advanced friends!! I’ll be back in the future with a better bike and a few more rides under my belt.
Also, how did those cars get up there?
ALSO, is this even the Bobsled everybody keeps talking about?? Because this is way more advanced than they made it seem.

no snow, ice, or even mud as of 10/25. gorgeous sunset. need a headlamp this time of year if going after work.

I love this hike. FYI, Winter gate is already up for the season (they closed it prior to Nov. 1 this year). If you want to do this one from the starting point shown here, you'll need to road walk 4.5 miles to get to the trailhead after parking at the picnic area in front of the Winter gate, yikes. Or you could get to it from Big Cottonwood instead, but no dogs allowed on that side.

Great day hike! Trail was snow covered from 9000 feet to the top. This was the most difficult part for me as I’m not accustomed to altitude ( from PA). Below that it is very rocky, so be prepared for both. The lake was beautiful, though there are other small lakes on the way up. Very few others on the trail, which was well marked even in the snowy areas, thanks to those who went before us. Views were absolutely spectacular. Despite the cool temps, the sun was very warm. Bring sunscreen, especially now that there is snow.

Just beautiful. Always loved going here when I was a kid.

Great hike but the waterfall is barely a trickle. There a side hike up the side of the mountain if you have the skills. Beautiful view from the top. Warning signs for mountain lions in the area, did see proof that they have been there, also saw a tarantula on the trail. Will return in the spring. Beautiful canyon.

One of my favorite views of the Wasatch Range is from this peak. It’s really not a difficult hike, once you get up to Catherine Pass, follow the trail to the right for only another half mile or so up to the peak. If the Alta summer road is open, you can park for free at the trailhead if you get in before 7am.

Great Fall walk with kids. Great views and pretty water fall. Super easy trail for 4 years old. It’s steep but the wooden stairs are well built. Watch out for signs or the trail will be easily missed because it is within a residential area.

Nice hike and surprised to find it completely snow covered in late October. The snow made it even more fun, and the trail was still easy to follow.

Short and beautiful!

Did this hike yesterday, or attempted to, anyway. Mary and Martha were absolutely gorgeous, but the trail to Catherine was completely covered in knee deep snow right at the loop. Probably could be done with snowshoes, but we did not have any. Scenery itself was beautiful despite not making it to Catherine. Can be easy to lose the trail in all of that snow.
Regardless, bring poles and/or spikes. Trail was nearly entirely covered in snow/ice.

Beautiful hike. Packed snow and Ice, super slippery, micro spikes needed. Oct 19.

Snow and slippery conditions after about 1.2 miles up. Microspikes recommended. Mucky mud too, but it was only really bad in a couple of spots. Winter is coming! Still a great hike, lovely view of the pines topped with snow much of the way up. Walking slower since I didn't have spikes, it took me 2 hours up and 1 hour down with a short break at the overlook. Also, it actually just under 5 miles round trip, not 4.1 miles from the description.
