Very nice, clean trail. Pretty level train, nice overlooks into the marshes. No charge to park but on a busy day, I imagine there would be a wait to park!

Awesome day of hiking today. There’s even a small cave to explore. The tortoises were a nice bonus as well. The views... well words can’t express it. You have to see it for yourself!!

This is hike hosts my favorite views in Kaua’i!

If you are in Kaua’i this is a must see. If you can get here slightly before sunrise this will be one of the best memories you take home with you.

It’s an easy walk but if you go far enough it can be good exercise. There are multiple trails leading to the same place. Many people jog it as well but you miss some of the views on the jogging trail. Not easy enough for those who can’t go up hill around rocks when necessary but good for adults and children.

Awesome hike, kids would love it too(8 and above). We saw lots of turtles along the beautiful coastline. Not too long and not very strenuous, a must if on Kauai.

Amazing views along the trail, ocean breeze and all types of terrain to hike along. Easy with the right shoes and lots if water if course. Great way to spend the day.

Loved this trail!

Easy, well maintained trail. They have some nice educational posts about the surrounding marshes and estuaries. I went on a weekday and it was still moderately busy, I imagine on weekends it gets crowded.

It’s somewhere between easy and moderate. You don’t need hiking boots but you should wear shoes and not sandals. The path has some inclines and declines (not difficult), and part of it is alongside the golf course. The challenge for us was where the side brush was so overgrown, it was hard to see the trail. That part lasted a quarter mile, so we were beginning to wonder if it would stay like that the rest of the hike.

Beyond that, there were several lookout spots to get great pictures. Overall, a fun walk.

Holy crap this hike was awesome! The lottery system keeps crowds down to 20 people per day, which you really appreciate when you arrive.

Absolutely fabulous. Now that I have been there, the route is easy. Caution if terrain navigating. 2nd largest slot canyon on NA very close.

We loved this hike. It was fairly easy and great ocean views all along the trail. I believe the total round trip was 7.5 miles. If you don’t hike with the app AllTrails- you should give it a try. It will keep you on the right path.

This is the most unique place on the planet. You don’t even believe it’s Earth. It’s like staring into a prehistoric era. Unbelievable!!!

People who are worried about getting to trailhead with a non 4x4 vehicle, don’t! I got there with my Toyota Sienna minivan and was fine if I drove slowly.

I lucked out and got a walk in permit the first time trying ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!! Got last # that was called out!

I started early (I stayed at the Stateline campground the night before so would have a quick drive) since I can’t handle high heat very well. It was nice and cool. Trail isn’t very well marked so follow the pictures in your booklet that the ranger gives you when you get your permit! I found a couple who got lost not doing that.

Most of hike is just exposed rock and sand. Saw some random wildflowers when I went through. The Wave portion itself (and if you go just a tad further will see similar formations some call the 2nd wave) is incredible.

I got out before noon since, by then, the heat was getting to me. Worth the hike!

Good workout, pretty view

This was an amazing experience...We went on a cold, rainy, somewhat snowy day in March. We are so thankful that we hired a guide out of Kanab who had a vehicle that could get in and out. Rain on clay is almost worse than ice in Minnesota. The weather did not dampen the experience and the weather cleared just as we arrived at the Wave. We are glad that we dressed in weather appropriate layers. We received our lottery ticket in the online drawing 3 months ahead....and there were almost 300 in line the day before. So it really is the luck of the draw.

Do not go without a permit. BLM and the sheriff check several times a day. The fine is huge not to mention federal court and the bad karma from doing the wrong thing to Mother Nature.

Protecting the wave and surrounding area is critical. It is fragile beauty.

It took us 8 months but we finally won a permit. The effort was worth it. No one can really describe the mind boggling beauty of this hike.

It is as though you are on another planet. Enter the lottery every month until you are awarded a permit. It is truly the golden ticket.

Sandy in areas which is exhausting. Take the detailed map you get with your permit. We used it way more than I thought we would. You are on your own out there.

The ranger will stop you and examine your permit. Writing down the details. They keep careful track of who is out there.

Took a walk out while on vacation. Nice little stroll with plenty of spots to stop for a dip on a hot day. The trail is easy enough to do in your beach footwear. the views are great and include ocean birds and sail boats.
There are several smaller paths you can take that connect the loops 2 sides but no signage. Being a small peninsula you can't really get lost so if you want you can make the walk longer byzig zagging your way out.

Get there early if you’re looking for secluded hike.
Very dandy at beginning. Beautiful views, highly recommend.

Nice walk. When they said kid friendly I thought kids bikes are allowed lol but not. Overall a nice quiet walk.

Easy, beautiful, interesting trail. We did this as a whole family with hikers of all skill levels, and we all enjoyed it. Great views of the coastline throughout. Recommend doing hike in the morning to avoid the heat and the crowds.

Amazing!

This trail was a better workout than I had expected based on reviews. Lots of walking along sand, and it gets really warm with little shade. Very beautiful and scenic hike so worth the views. I was expecting to hike down to a sandy, swimmable beach, and although it was pretty, there were signs saying the bacteria levels were high in the water. So if you’re looking to hike to a secret beach to take a dip in, this isn’t for you. But the views and good workout was worth it for me!

Beautiful hike along the coast with scenic views. Definitely an easy hike.

July, 24, 2018. Great hike along the coast. Tallied up 6.26 RT mileage and suprisedly 1,555' elevation from the trailhead, next the golf club to Makau'wahi Cave Reserve out/back. Although, trekking along the beach, expect to get your sweat on with the tropical humidity and rough terrain when you get to lava trail part. I loved it.

Beautiful but bring bug spray! $5/pp

Leisurely walk, great for families, saw parents with strollers. The boardwalk and path is level and there are numerous benches and lookout points over the marshes. Saw some birds, deer, bugs, all kinds of wildlife! A great 30-45 min outing if you are in Wells or Ogunquit. Brought our dog and she saw tons of chipmunks!
