Wisconsin hikes I want to visit and photograph

Wisconsin Trails Map

Nice hiking trail, beautiful lake. Has some nice lake outlooks but does not follow close to the lake. My 60 some year old parents were able to walk it easily. Not very busy, went on a weekday and did not see anyone else on the trail.

This loop map is incomplete! This only shows the road and the West river trail. There is a matching East river trail on the other side that is definitely worth the hike! Refer to the paper maps passed out at the entrance to see both loops. I highly recommend going North (toward the lake) for the East Trail. It has some very steep embankments that would have been torture to climb up but were okay to go down ;) Lots of stairs and boardwalks on the West river side, more rustic on the East side.

1) this map doesn’t show there is an east and west trail. Make sure to do both sides of the river. 2) they give you a paper map at the entrance which shows the east trail. 3) start with the west trail to learn about the waterfalls.

The map above is a picture of the trail to Morgan Falls. The trail to St. Peter's dome is much longer, almost 2 miles out, 4 round trip.

The trail is closed but the road is open. We did the hike and it was muddy in a few places. This is the buggiest trail ever. It was miserable and we couldn't even stop to take pictures without being swarmed, and that was with bug spray.

We hike this trail every time we are in Vilas County. We save it for a chilly day when you can’t hang out on the lake. There’s usually a pair of nesting loons in the summer. Be sure to stop at both the north and south ends of the lake to enjoy the view.

Started at the Franklin Nature trail and went clockwise. Beginning was very beautiful following a ridge and then descending to skirt the lake. Got extra water at the campground between Luna and White Deer Lake. Saw fish, frogs, butterflies and dragonflies. Was initially planning to camp near Harriet Lake but changed to Pat Shay Lake on the advice of a camper I met. Turned out the trail was flooded out where it passes Harriet Lake to the South so I had to backtrack to the road and take that to the dispersed camping east of Harriet Lake. Wasn't a great spot, it's among cabins. Attempted to get back on the trail in the morning but mosquitoes were too thick and I took paved roads back to the car.

Close to home for me and one of my favorite spots. pick some wintergreen along the trail all year round!

Pretty easy hike. The waterfalls were really cool to see and lots of easy paths.

Beautiful. West trail easier and more groomed than the East side . All the Waterfalls are stunning.

Gorgeous waterfall views. Some sections of the East River Trail are closed but remaining path is in good condition. Small amounts of up/down, I would rate it on the easier side of moderate.

Love this trail! Challenging to do entire 15+ miles and also great trail for day hikes out and back from either Luna Whitedeer trailhead or Franklin nature trail.

FYI: Trail still closed.

Beautiful views, Great place to stop and enjoy the waterfalls.

No majestic bluffs, waterfalls, ect, just the most beautiful serene forest with crystal clear glacial lakes you will find in the Northwoods of Wisconsin

had a great time exploring! quite a few "off road" yrails you could follow to get rite down into the waterfalls. loved it!

Easy and fun.

We usually stay in sayner, wi. Was looking for a trail that was out of his world, this hit all the nails on the head. Hike the main copper falls trail which is about a 1.7 mile loop and then the red granite falls, it's a figure 8 trail, 2.4miles, it is much less populated and you can climb on the rocks and see some good falls. If you are out of state, like us, pay 11 dollars to get into the park, worth every penny! Our trip to CO got canceled and this by far made up for it! A bit of a hillbilly nowhere drive but don't be frightened! I will post some photos as well. We went in late June, after a good amount of recent rainfall.

Loved it for a quick walk.

Loved this trail! Beautiful waterfalls and wildflowers. Ended up by the lake around sunset. I loved seeing the river flowing into Lake Superior. Would definitely do this trail again.

A beautiful late winter, early spring hike. we went from the Franklin campground trail to Hidden Lake Trail, out and back about 5 miles total. it was about 6°F and sunny. trails were sometimes snow covered, a few inches deep with ice crust, or cleared to the leaves and pine needles with a few patches if ice.

Walked a lot on ridges through pines and birch forest, and highlight was walking on a ridge between two small frozen lakes.

Gorgeous Place absolutely loved it!

Morgan falls is nice and short hike. FYI this trail is currently closed due to road wash out. A lot of people park at the road close sign and walk the 1.3 mile down the road to the trail. St. Peter's Dome isn't worth the 3.7 miles around trip hike unless the fall colors have changed fully. It's a nice view across the valley but the path is pretty rocky. About 2 hour hike around trip from the road.
