Winter Walks/Hikes Map

I don't know who writes the information on the trails, but this one is very nice but easy for a serious hiker, but not someone looking for an easy walk in the woods.

Trail is in great shape now. Leaves are in full color or maybe a little past. Today was my first hike through here since the big windstorm earlier this year. What a great job by the NPS to clear the trail!

I ended up walking from Balcares Redoubt to the Chatfield Farm on the woods trail. Very nice trail, well maintained, dry and mowed close.

Beautiful place great walk

Nice trail. Well groomed, nicely marked. Trail is mostly flat, no poles needed. Some nice views especially with the leaves turning. Would do again. Trail is mostly out in the open with fields all around. It was very windy today when I hiked. I saw 4 other people on the trail.

Really nice walk, especially with some fall colors showing. Gentle and well-marked. Make sure your phone is fully charged so you can do the cell phone tour. I could only do three of them before my battery died, but it seemed like it would add a lot to the trail. Unfortunately, the tour road was closed when I went, so this was all I could do.

I love walking this trail with my dog but there are so many ticks. I checked her before leaving during the spring/summer and I pulled at least 5 ticks off of her each time. (this is with her collar that usually does the job) Other than that it is a beautiful trail and I've never had any ticks on me.

Great trail

Nice little walking trail. Mix of gravel, soft ground and old wood rail (probably not stroller friendly for those parts). As of today last .5 still closed. Enter from Lake Ave end. Dog found lots to sniff!

Walked this easy flat trail this morning. Little soft under foot in some places, especially when among the tree's. Decent amount of poison ivy growth along the sides of some of the trail so watch your footing. Last half-mile (Meadowbrook Road end) was roped off/closed for improvement work.

Actually 4.2 mike according to park map. Easy walk

Very peaceful. Markers for the loop are hard to follow.

Very pleasant year around loop trail. Variety of habitats, mostly mature forest and open fields replicating 1700’s conditions with a few wetlands and stream crossings. Trail well maintained and marked.

Not a fan. Most of this is trail is on pavement around a lake that has algae warnings. Mosquitos were terrible even with deet.

The locked gate is a real pain in the ass.

This could be a five star rating, except for the strange area behind the plastics factory in Waterford where there’s a locked gate. We couldn’t figure out how to continue on the trail. Later, after riding miles around on roads, we approached the gate from the other side and saw an obscure and muddy path through some bushes. This lead back to the trail head at Lock 2. Very pretty in summer. Flowers, views, turtles, frogs, waterfowl. Bring sunblock. A large part of the trail is fully exposed to the sun. Also, it was probably too gravelly for a road bike, but it was okay.

Trail is closed for improvements as of this post. There weren't any signs stating when it would be reopened.

Great light trail, with added historical information along the way. I brought my dog and she loved it as well!

I took my kids (ages 9, 10, and 12) and it was easy for them. Very sandy, but its cleared well. Not much to see, but the hilly parts are partitioned off into steps that make it easy for younger climbers. There was also a book posted periodically to keep them entertained. I will go again.

What a wonderful trail. This trail is clearly marked and maintained well. Would highly recommend this trail to all ages.

A personal favorite. Beautiful views and easy access to the creek that weaves throughout the trails. Excellent for anything from a casual walk to exploring. Difficult to get lost, wide trails.

Nice trail for a quick walk. It's one of the Blue Karner Butterfly habitats.

Mother’s Day Walk, we walked the entire 4.2 mile walk with 9 year old boys. Nice scenic walking, paths well maintained. Dogs allowed, we came a week after the storm, and they had it all cleaned up!

Great family hike. Great first time hike, since it is more of a walk. Great beach and picnic area and playground for kids. Great one to get grandma and grandpa and the kiddies out in nature.

my friend and I met here as it was about halfway for us, she's in Glens Falls and I'm in Clifton Park. Met on the Meadowbrook end and walked through. Saw some snakes and geese and one other random bird. We enjoyed the trail, it was wet at the beginning for us but it had been raining off and on the past few days.

Not well marked on the farm side.

Hiked to the overview with my son yesterday it was a good hike .
Enjoyed the snowman. Trying to get in shape to go up Marcy this summer this hike seemed to be a good start. Enjoyed it.

They have a nice couple challenges
