Good for beginners, just a weeeee bit challenging like being on a stairmaster for 2 hours, crampons come in handy

A really good hiking for a sunny day! wonderful landscapes, different points of view. we did it without ice cleats, it was ok because few snow on the ground.

Spent 3 hrs, quiet, great view on the top, perfect weather!

Dec 11th. Very little snow and what was there was compact. Spikes were only required to make the final ascent to the Fire lookout and descending the Jewel Pass trail. Great single track down the Jewel Pass in a nicely forested area. Very high winds at Barrier Lake.

Windy but not much snow cover. Good over all hike

this is a difficult hike for beginners, but beautiful view on top

Completed hike on 2018-12-02. Crampons/Ice Cleats highly recommended. Not really enough snow on this date for snow shoes. Great hike, great views especially the summit with it's 360 degree panorama.

Completed this hike a couple weeks ago, crampons not needed. It’s pretty fantastic at the top with the pearlier feels but most certainly a steep incline that can make you question for a second what you got yourself into. I was sore for a week after this hike! But the experience is worth it, a solid hike!

Great views, easy trail to follow. Ran into deeper snow at the final approach to the summit lookout. No problem with spikes. Good hike if you want a mix of terrain and a hike in the 4 to 5 hour range.

Good fall/early winter hike if you have micro spikes. Some deep snow up top (don’t forget the gaiters) near the lakes, but lakes are frozen and you can easily traverse across them. Will be back in the spring/summer.

Gorgeous views of Spray Lakes for the majority of the hike! We had to cut the hike short by a couple hundred meters as the snow became too deep. Definitely going to add this one to the list to do again in the summer!

really great trail. set out by myself and didn't see anyone else the whole day. lots of sharp rocks and lots of ice. views from the top were worth the trip. yaktracs and trekking poles definitely recommend. even though mine broke on the way up. I imagine that it only gets harder from here on out and soon a 4x4 will be need to get to the trail head safely. Great day.

Great hike today. Almost missed the trail start going up hill, but this app saved the day to put us back on. Enough trail markers / ribbons to keep us on the right trail to the top.

To much snow to continue to Sparrow didn’t have the snow shoes on us - so we went up Reads instead! Great day! Not to windy not icy great Sunday hike - will be back to do the full route.

Loved this trail! Great view and away from the large crowds.

Great view on top, easy to walk, not a lot of snow! I would recommand :)

Did this hike on November 12th

Well that was a hell of a hike. Beautiful day. My dog and I set out, microspikes and Ruffwear boots. Took a few breaks for food and water for my dog. So windy at the false summit and didn’t think I would even try to make it to the lookout tower but some awesome ladies with dogs who were experienced hikers ventured up there so we followed. Worth the views. Would have stayed up there longer but the windy was terribly cold so we trekked back down. Road up was very slippery so keep that in mind at this time of year. A lot harder than I expected. If you bring a dog make sure they have boots if you go to the top. Very sharp rocks.

me and my friends did this hike today ....very nice easy hike ...no slippery sections ....there was snow but easy to manage...beautiful views of Barrier lake and Mount Baldy .

Stunning day. False summit today. Too slippery to progress to the peak without cleats. Lots of slippery stuff under fresh snow.

Did this hike Nov 3, 2018. High of 10 degrees, slight wind, mainly overcast. First 60% of the trail was greasy and we had to put on crampons to stop from slipping everywhere. Middle portion ice and some snow. Top portion by lake has deep snow. Crampons necessary and likely snowshoes for upper area. Mud should not be a problem since freezing temps incoming.

This hike isn't what I would call "super easy". More moderate to difficult since it is essentially straight up. Very few flat areas. Use my GPX data since All Trails map is out of date.

The Good:
Nature, outdoors, some okay scenery on the way up, vigorous hike
Scenery around the lakes is beautiful

The Bad:
Aggressive climb from trailhead to lakes
Mostly within treeline
Few views along the way

Great hike close to the city. We were out there yesterday, November 3rd. There was no snow.
We had brought our yaks thinking we would need them but nope! Windy at the flag so pack a jacket. Quite steep all the way except right at the beginning about .5km into the hike you get about 1km that is flat. The rest in a straight up incline but views are so worth it. I’m a relatively beginner hiker it was challenging but do able and it’s short so that makes it manageable.

Actually been on the ridge above the'high point' and viewed on to the other side. Its lil steep but no dramatic cliffs until the ridge.

We loved this hike! Did today, brought our pup and it was perfect. Windy walking around the lake to get to the trail but besides that awesome! Gets steep by the look out point. Beautiful views would do again :)

Did this trail on October 28th. Was very clear, showed a bit in the peak but warmed up. Packed snow on jewel pass section but manageable with spikes. Great view and a decent work out. Finished in just under 4 hours with a few breaks.

Beauuutiful hike! Did this one 2 days ago with a friend. Steep at the end but SO worth it for the view!!! Crampons were a must.. poles could be a good idea too. When you get to the rock boulders (about 3/4 of the hike) the trail is very difficult to find. There is a path on the far left but also some other scattered all over the place. Don't stop there even if it's hard to find... you have to reach the end of it!! You will have a spectacular view of Minnewanka lake, Canmore and all the mountains (180° view)
Really enjoyed that one, would do it again in a heart beat ❤

Amazing view at the end! Crampons and poles recommended if you want to go all the way up (the last km is really steep). Snow and ice covering the last third of the hike.

Great hike with amazing views
Last part is pretty steep but totally worth it!
The trail is icy and there’s snow at the end but completely possible and safe. Better with poles and crampons.
