3rd time doing this. Stunning views at the summit. But don’t let the low milage fool you. It gets the blood flowing quickly!

This is a beautiful trail. I highly recommend this trail for all levels of hikers, especially those who want to get back into hiking. The trail has some steep, challenging parts to keep it interesting; and as always, the views are incredible.

Did this hike a week ago while visiting Saranac Lake. A nice hike to stretch the legs and get the heart rate up a little, but not strenuous. Afforded nice views of the town and lakes and a different perspective from the high peaks.

Good one if you’ve got little hikers in tow. Our 2 and 4 year old loved it. We chose the lower, less steep side and just went out to Echo Lake and back. Sorry to the people living in the fancy house on the lake. My kids loved yelling “ECHO!” across the lake.

Nice hike. Took the short steep route up. I was worried a bit from some of the reviews since I consider myself a 55 y.o. beginner hiker and not in great shape. It was a little tricky, but not too difficult. Some nice views from that trail. Went down the easier gradual trail.

Beautiful views! Easy hike!

A fun little hike the whole family can do. Has switchbacks which make the trail easier to climb. Good views at the top and places to hang out for a while. Not many steep climbs or scrambling. Great to use to get the heart beating and for an afternoon or morning hike in the woods. Took me 20 minutes up.

Best bang for your buck hike in the Adirondacks. Good for the whole family, amazing summit views. Short trail is steeper, long is more gradual. Perfect for an afternoon or early morning hike.

Cobble is fun. I do it regularly as a workout with a view more than anything. It’s fun that you can get onto a little mountain and in the woods right from main street in Lake Placid. A great starter hike to help get you in shape to do some hiking. I recommend doing it as a loop trail, up the shorter/steep trail (though it’s not that steep) and down the longer trail where you will pass echo pond. A fun mini hike that can take less than an hour round trip

Fun little hike. Can be done in under an hour total if you move at a good pace with a good 15 minutes up top. Views aren’t high peaks-calibur but for a small short hike in town they’re still well worth it. Can be done as a loop trail, though the “other trail” is a little tricky to find when up top but not too difficult to navigate. Some steep parts to get the heart and legs pumping. Great for kids and to get yourself in hiking shape. Very enjoyable.

Fun hike. Harder than expected but we prefer a challenge. Beautiful views.

Beautiful views at the summit. We went up the steeper, shorter trail and came back down the longer way. I would recommend this to save your knees.

This is a nice hike if you want to stay close to home. It was extremely hot when I was on the Lake and wanted to be close for comfort so this was a great choice. The short ascent is relatively challenging but rewarding at the top as you’ll have views of some of the high peaks to the south and the lake and some nice views to the east. I chose to go back down the way I came but the loop is a more gradual decent. Total moving time can be anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour or two depending on your pace.

There are two options to get to the top. A longer moderate trail along the lake with fallen trees, climbs and switchbacks to get you there (about an hour). There is also a more direct route, very steep incline. I took the moderate route both ways. Signing the trail could be better. Make sure you bring water, wear heavier hiking shoes and bug repellant. Bringing kids? Outfit them accordingly. I saw a little girl with flip flops, a dress and crying about bug bites. Really? I bet she won’t want to hike anymore.

Fantastic loop to do if you wanted to squeeze one in after a long day! The views were amazing, was pretty easy but there are steep parts that can be difficult for a novice hiker.

Love it. Best bang for your buck.

We hiked up Baxter this morning because a storm was promised in afternoon. There were nice views at the top. We hiked to the second summit and that added about a 10th of a mile more. 6/18/2018

Take the shorter steeper trail up and the longer trail down to save your knees. There are definitely some steep sections with little shade leaving you exposed to the sun. Wonderful view at the summit making it one of my favorite hikes in the region. If you are a camper check out the heart lake campground!

We hiked this with three kids under the age of 6 last week. It was great! Not too difficult for them and great views. They loved scrambling over the rocks especially.

Decently steep incline, but well worth it!!

Quick hike with some rock scrambles. Nice view of Lake Placid. A few muddy spots. Short trail only took about 20 minutes to summit. I did the short trail up and back.

Short, scenic hike! Didn’t take us long to reach the peak with our pup.

We took the steep way up, and the “easy glades” way down. It was muddy but manageable. I would not want to travel down the steep way in any moisture or with a pet. It’s just too steep and the footing isn’t great. There is a rope which helps on the way up the very small bit of straight rock scramble. It’s a fun, small challenge for those not used to them.

The steep way up has a beautiful lookout point (prettier than the summit) that makes it totally worth taking the steep route. Worth checking out! :)

It was raining pretty hard when we had ventured up Baxter. The rain stopped while we were at the summit which allowed some decent views of the Lower GR and Giant covered in clouds and fog. Decent views from a few balconies on the last 1/5 of a mile. Rain restarted on the way back down making for a wet descent. Not difficult and gradual trail- family and pet friendly

Awesome quick hike

wasn't as kid friendly as I expected
