Easy practically flat trail. Beware lots of bike riders, some are nice enough to let you know they are coming close. Busy on the weekends. Nice waterfall at the end of the trail to refresh yourself in.

Great hike for beginners, it was easy and fun. We opted for a pre dawn hike, it was beautiful & surprisingly quiet. We will be returning next week!

Fun hike for any ages.

A really mild, relaxing hike! There is plenty of nature and rolling hills to see. Not much incline, and there is a pond at the base of the hike!

Excellent

Where can you park besides the lake area? Thanks.

That’s good one for biking and rent boat at the end of the hiking for $75 all day.

Today about 8:30-8:45 am, my 14-year-old son and I were in Oak Canyon South (just a bit beyond the first bridge after the Grasslands junction) when we encountered a pack (5-6) of large coyotes. Two crossed immediately (about 5 feet) in front of my son, going into the brush on our left side, while the rest of them were above us on the right side. One of these stood looking down at us. I was surprised that they didn't seem afraid of us, so to be on the safe side we backtracked out of the trail. It was a cool experience, but unnerving at the time. I enjoy this trail and we will be back.

Easy flat trail for walking/biking. There is just one tiny part of crossing about a few inches of water on the bike or stepping stones. Gradual small incline and the view was very peaceful. We ran into more bikers than hikers on midday Sunday. Minimal shade during the hot day so bring lots of water.
-we parked near the farmers market (1030am-330pm) and trail head was down the end of the road. There’s other trails from here.
-it is along the highway for a bit but it gets more quiet along the trail the further you go.

Uneventful hike.

Very pretty and very easy. Perfect for kids.

Great easy hike. Can be used for easy hiking, running or just an easy walk with your family overlooking the beautiful mountains and the lake.

Very pretty trail for a ride. At the top of the hill overlooking the lake, there is a fork that leads to the south Lake Trail in the left. On the right, the map says it loops back to rejoin the original trail. However, the fork isn't well marked and I couldn't find the loop-back trail on the right. I didn't want to risk it with my bike so I just ended up retracing my original route.

I’m giving this a 5 because I thought it was really well marked, maintained, and quiet on a Friday morning. I took some of the side trails to keep my and my little one in the shade and keep him entertained with the water flow. This is the perfect little escape in San Diego when Julian, Romona, etc. are too far for a hike.

Loved it. Brought my three children and we had an amazing family time, very nice view of the lake. Not crowded at all on Wednesday morning. My 7 year old boy was running and jumping on the way back. A little harder for my 9 year old daughter but still loved it.

Easy. Pretty. Dog friendly.

Love this trail. Open space is nearly breathtaking. Single track is a little narrow at points to be comfortable. Great family hike.

The “waterfall” looked more like a watering hole, really. Definitely bring lots of water to hydrate along the way because there will be some parts of the trail that aren’t shaded.

Great hike, pretty easy. Dogs enjoyed it as well.

I loved it and so did my dog

Classic San Diego canyon landscape with river rocks on a partly shaded trail. The far eastern part of the trail includes a steep sandstone portion with deep grooves. Not quite a sandstone slot canyon (at least not yet), but beautiful, unspoiled, and definitely unexpected. Minus one star for constant road noise from the 52 and for general proximity to the freeway. Climbing down the sandstone part of the trail, I felt almost awkwardly watched by drivers getting on the 805 south from the 52. But it is what it is; the freeways aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and I hope the park isn’t either. Perfect for getting your nature fix without leaving the city.

This was a very easy, and nice family hike. There are frequent shady areas, which come in handy midday. I would definitely recommend bringing at least 2Liters of water per person.

This Trail Map App has this Trail marked incorrectly, it is not designated by the county or the city as a loop trail, you can make it a loop but you must know where your going, the county does maintain it but it is not marked anyplace as a “Loop Trail”. This could be misleading to someone who wants to check out manually and run, or walk expecting the trail to “loop” them back to where they started. So pay attention, it is an awesome nice easy family friendly Trail!

Too short of a hike, but not short of graffiti
Our kids loved all the colors

Accurately described. Lake with a bit of desert landscaping. All dogs were on leash. Some owners don’t scoop the poop. Overall nice trail.

beautiful, not too challenging, and quiet. we may have to go back with bicycles too.

it was pretty nice until the very end. The trail got very narrow and sketchy towards the end.
