easy. beautiful.

Great trail with great views. Not too heavily trafficked on a Friday morning. Down by the river I got to watch the train from Durango to Silverton come by. The return hike is tough as its mostly uphill, but altogether a real fun hike. It took me maybe 4 hours with 20 minutes spent by the river.

This is such a lovely trail with gentle up and downhill sections. It can be accessed from Navajo Basin Trail or closer to Telluride at the parking area marked “Kilpacker “ which is where we started. I think this is why our trail map is so different from the sites.

Excellent hike. Upper Ice Lake Basin is just stunning. Wildflowers are past their peak, but still very pretty. Went on from Ice Lake to Island Lake, which was worth the extra effort, though not quite as beautiful as Ice Lake.

Fantastic hike. The first half of the trail is easy going and the second half contains most of the vertical. Fantastic scenery all along the way. I stopped to fish at the top for an hour with no luck. The view on the way back down was incredible. Make sure your vehicle has good ground clearance as the road has plenty of holes and ditches along the way

Great views of Trout Lake as the trails goes up on the switchbacks. A very nice 6 mile out and back hike mostly through the woods.

Beautiful - we crossed the creek and went up He west side to the waterfall - about 9.5 miles round trip from the parking lot. Road to parking is very rough and it is further in than you think.

Amazing birthday hike. At the beginning parked in parking lot across river so had to wade to get to the trailhead. Not a moderate hike due to technical area thru boulders.. Invigorating swim at the lake!

Beautiful views!!!

Beautiful !

Good hike. Probably a bit spoiled by other hikes in the area. Not as spectacular as Ice Lakes, for example, but still pretty scenic. Nice waterfalls & lakes.

Beautiful sweeping views. The lake is great for fishing and camping. I might rate this a bit harder than moderate especially if you are carrying an overnight backpack. The first lake looks like an infinity pool from heaven. BE WARNED: the road to the trailhead is very rocky and uneven, not for the faint of heart. 4WD and/or SUV is highly recommended although I saw a few sedans that made it up somehow.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS VIA C.R. 204 then 171. It is still closed after Animas Overlook due to 416/Burro Fires. Call San Juan Forest Service before you attempt. Found out the laborious and time consuming way.. Call 970-247-4874 before you go.

Cannot review trail yet : ( sadly
So bummed.

Beautiful view and moderate level of difficulty.

Very nice trail until you reach the saddle between sharks tooth and Centennial then if you want to proceed up sharks tooth it’s pretty rough, tons of jagged loose rock! Overall lovely hike would def check out this trail again!

Stunning hike which I agree is moderate. The scenery constantly changes, wildflowers and microclimates, creeks, waterfalls and lakes. SO beautiful. The challenges for me were the altitude because we arrived in Telluride last night and hiking down a rocky trail. If you have knees or hips which cause you trouble, take your hiking sticks. Hiking downhill will be so much easier for you. By the time we sat down at Hope Lake I got my head back, dizziness went away and my heart settled down. Totally worth all of my effort, one of the most beautiful hikes I have ever been on. My husband had no trouble with the altitude but was very glad he packed his hiking sticks for the rocky trail down.

Hiked out to the bridge over Engine Creek on Cascade Creek East Fork trail. Beautiful hike was a little over 6.2 miles out and back from where I parked Jeep.

Easy driving trail. Several places to pass. Maybe one moderate area near top but nothing crazy. I like doing this trail in the evening, great sunsets make for amazing pictures.

Well worth the trip from ice lake, a little challenging but worth it and fun!!

Did this end of July 2018. Great views. Very little traffic. As previously stated, the grind from the bottom is a bit strenuous but a great challenge. My dog also loved the stream at the bottom.

This is one of my most favorite hikes, ever. Once you get to Ice Lake (amazing), Island Lake is a short but very steep journey over the ridge. The trail to Ice Lake is pretty straightforward (and steep) but to Island Lake there is some scrambling. It was extremely windy and quite cold in the basin around both lakes, even though the rest of the trail was warm.

AllTrails says "moderate" but I would rate this as difficult, ESPECIALLY if you are from lower elevations.

I started at 8am on Wednesday in August and had the trail almost to myself. While I enjoyed the view from the top, hordes of people were on their way up. This trail is popular for good reason.

Went west to east. There's a bit of climbing early on then it gets extremely narrow, steep, and you're bouncing over relatively large rocks. I was carrying a lot of extra weight with camping gear in my 4runner so that climb was a slow, steady pace. After you get over the pass you're quickly on an easy minivan road.

Was the starting point for an all day adventure! Great trail, moderate and transversed in high gear for some and low around obstacles. Super views.

Off reading vehicle preferred, something with high ground clearance, correct tires, and awd/4wd will help. Road is pretty steep in some spots, big rocks. Last bit of the road is 5 miles to the trail top going 5mph, do the math.

The day started out driving up to the Notch. We hike down to where the road end on the other side of the Notch. Very nice views there of Durango. In the drive back down, we saw the lake on the other side. We decided to hike there also. Good easy hike with awesome views of the mountains. Arrived at the lake and the dogs had field day playing in the water. 4-wheel is recommended to get up there but saw a few grocery getters making the trip. Another good weekend in Colorado.

Be forewarned that the road to this trail is not paved for sometime if you are coming from Silverton; maybe 30 minutes plus going 5-15 mph over rocky terrain. As you approach the trail head there is a small parking area at the bottom about .5 miles from the head, this is where we parked because the road up to the trail head seemed a bit tough. If you have a proper suv or awd lifted car, it should be fine, if not, it might be a tough climb up for an inexperienced driver. Weather conditions were constantly changing in late July as well, with 10 degree temp swings with rain/thunder. Beautiful hike.
