Excellent walk, suitable for beginners and experienced walkers. Proper mountain gear required
Beautiful!
Did this beautiful hike yesterday, we parked in the upper carpark and then started off on the trail up past Poulanass Waterfall we went up and up and up onto the boardwalk overlooking the upper lake, we kept on the boardwalk and kept going keeping the lake on your right hand side, you will come down through the miners village and back to the upper carpark ..... It's fairly tough on the ole legs on the way down to the miners village so a good comfy pair of hiking boots and a pair of poles would come in helpful.... We got a beautiful day, but it was chilly along the top of The Spinc, there is fab scenery along the way, take your time and enjoy it
excellently marked out. stunning views. well worth it. would highly recommend this trail.
Great trail but pretty much no trail for the majority so you need to be prepared, few sink holes will catch you out but it's incredibly enjoyable if that's what you're after. Boots an essential. Trail was empty the day I was out so had the entire mountain to myself! Unreal!!
if you are beginner in hiking and low fitness, you might be needing a few breaks going up as it is a bit of a climb but once you're at a top is gorgeous and so worth it. going down through the miner's walk is marvelous, with the spring water, deers, sheep and occasional goat. highly recommend it as it's very rewarding. takes 3 hours of continuous walking or 4 hours with stops on the climb. you do need good hiking boots, the trail is well marked but until you're almost at the top there's just a walked in trail and going down it can get quite rocky as well as boggy.
lovley walk. We REALLY took our time, stopping for chats and a rest along the way. ive done this route a few times and think its great as a starter hike to get your fitness up.
Had great weather. Could be tricky when wet. Would recommend good shoes.
if you're planning to do the whole loop, better wear a decent pair of high cut hiking boots as it gets very rocky and super steep! the elevation level was pretty high also. you have to have a good level of fitness i would say. but nonetheless, the view is beautiful
Wonderful trail, well signed, waterfalls
Highly recommend, breathtaking views. Done this a numerous amount of times.
absolutely do this hike!! beautiful historical sites and beautiful views!! great for beginners and intermediate hikers, as well.
Really enjoyed this today. Fantastic views and good mix of climbs, flats and surfaces!
3 hours start to finish on a much nicer June morning. Tough going in parts, especially where you lose the trail but beautiful scenery and solitude.
Still very boggy in parts (Jun20) so boots and poles are a must. Keep an eye out for a fence when heading to Mullaghcleevaughan East, I breezed past it... again! Didn't make Mullaghcleevaughan because weather turned fast, the wind picked up and there was a complete white out so I was very thankful for the app! Will be buying a battery pack for backup power before heading back up again!
Beautiful experience.
Superbe !!!!! Vos le détour !!!! Nous l'avons fais sous la neige !!! Magnifique !!
Great hike, not too hard, however, it can can get very boggy for a good chunk of the way
A beautiful three hour loop trail that covers road, scramble and boardwalk walking. I headed off early and followed the trail as described above going counter clockwise around the lake. This meant a tough climb up the waterfall at the miners village, but I largely had the place to myself for the first two hours. The views are absolutely spectacular, but quick changes in the weather are a stern reminder that things can get nasty fast for those unprepared. Good hiking boots and rain gear are a must. The trail itself is excellently maintained and well signposted. Don't get too hung up on trail blazes while around the busier areas. I got turned around a few times trying to follow side paths and shortcuts that intertwine around the monastic settlement and the information centre. Keep it simple...Either walk around the upper lake, or head up to the waterfall. After that the trail will become much more apparent as the smaller trails and crowds fall away. The boardwalk sleepers have been replaced around the Spink (January 2020) and the route is a good mix of cruisey trails and tough climbs; very slippy and boggy in places. For those looking to shave a few minutes off the route, you could easily park at the upper car park rather than the visitor centre and cut out the monastic ruins and some flat boardwalk.
very good ,a bit crowded at the start but worked out well in the end.... great views
