No snow/ice left, though some muddy terrain for sure. View from the peak was spectacular. Only saw a handful of folks on the trail. Great hike!
Beautiful way to spend the morning! One hour and 20 minutes went by quickly. No one else on the trail today! Serene and well kept!
absolutely amazing trail. a bit tricky coming from hiking in Florida but totally fun.
Good hike not too steep. The trail is very muddy and wet in places but still worth the effort. Great views of the White Mountains.
March 28 (Saturday 9am) - Fun hike, nice trail, not too many people, and rewarding views of the white mountains. Typical spring time hike; started icy then got very wet and mushy. Once we got a little more elevation the trail dried out a bit. Definitely needed micro spikes/crampons with good water resistant hiking boots. Lots of ice had melted a couple hours later when we made our way back down. I do wish the trees were better blazed with paint. Definitely doing this again with friends and family.
Access road closed as still ice and snow as of March 27th. Hiked beautiful Peaked Mountain instead.
March 20 headed out early and the trail was ice or hard packed snow. I had Hillsong spikes on and it was perfect. There is a lot of bare ground on the ledges. By 9:30 temp up to 45 and snow was getting soft. It was a great hike
Beautiful. Lot‘s of snow and ice. Spikes necessary.
The week of thawing and hard refreeze overnight made the trail conditons hard on knees and ankles. Lots of frozen postholes and jagged ice. Great views of the Whites from the south end of the ridge and Mount Tom, Pleasant and Burnt Meadow from the summit.
Very weak snow pack all along the ledge. Every few steps, one boot sinks in a foot or more.
Snow packed, micro spikes.
I believe I met Ed Cooke and his wife who could not have been nicer- surpassed perhaps only by his dogs, goats and horses! He’s the land owner and gave me some trail advice after plowing the lot. My wife and I snowshoed to Peary and had the best hike of the winter. The views of the Presidentials are amazing. Super friendly vibe the whole day from Ed and family to another nice old guy who showed us where to park. 3-1-21 - Trail is open - carry in carry out!
Snow packed down, a little slippery going down. Nice views at summit.
Lots of hikers today! Slick trails but beautiful views up top!!!
Lots of snowmobiles. Loud.
Awesome hike with beautiful views the entire time. Snow was well packed, but Micro-spikes were incredibly helpful. Sweeping views of the White Mountains.
Absolutely beautiful snowy hike and summit! It’s steep the whole 1,600 feet to the summit (in some spots more than others) but that’s what we were looking for, so we were happy. We had our spikes and poles, and glad for them. Snow was nicely packed by others. We go slowly and make photo stops so it took us just under 2 hours up and an hour down, for a total of 3 hours well spent! The views from the summit are incredible.
This was a great winter hike thanks to others who have been out there keeping the trail packed down and well marked.
Such an incredible hike. No wind at all today! Trail was very well packed.
Hiked this beautiful trail yesterday (02/07) and had a great time! This was our first winter hike up a mountain and couldn’t ask for a better winter hike! Trail was well packed so we only had our boots and poles. There are a couple of icy patches, but can be avoidable. Be prepared for it to be windy and chilly at the top! It was so windy at the top early afternoon that you couldn’t tell that anyone had been up there since the snow immediately covered the footprints, so be aware of your surroundings when you get near the top. The views are spectacular. Happy hiking!
Moderate, exciting, well marked and scenic trail leading to incredible views of ME and NH. Went on a chilly but clear winter day (2 F / -16 C) day. Trail was narrow due to snow and ice coverage requiring some rerouting for stability, occasional hands/knees scrambling, and sapling grabbing for support. Crampons, poles, gaiters and sunscreen highly recommended. Trail starts off with a bang! Be ready to climb, sweat and shout at the stunning views as you quickly gain elevation. Summit offers plenty of room to enjoy the 360 view.
The view is gorgeous at the top. The trail was well marked and packed down nicely. It was a little slippery with the snow, I suggest crampons, but totally manageable for the four amateur hikers in our group. 100% recommend!
