Trail surface: grass and mud, have had a lot of rain this year. Bugs: we did the three mile Outer Loop and almost turned back due to swarms of mosquitoes, also found ticks on me and my husband when we got home. Scenery: Really beautiful, but not much variation, wooded areas, grassy areas, wood bridges and river. Elevation gain: even though map claims some elevation feels essential flat. Amenities: Visitor Center very nice, restrooms very clean, staff very friendly, drinking fountain outside building, ample parking. Overall a lovely hike but mosquitoes a huge problem.

Hate to ever give a bad rating, but this place is a mosquito pit. Wanted to run 4-5 miles but cut it short due to the bugs.

This place is beautiful with lots of prairie plants. Cone flowers are everywhere. The trails are often shaded, my dogs appreciated that in the warm weather. Bathrooms are clean and well placed. Be sure to have bug spray.

be prepared. bug spray. long pants. long sleeved shirt. good shoes. very muddy. trail head not well marked but fairly easy to stay on path. trail app a great help when not sure. fun to hike on dirt path. worth a hike in to see the nature art. An escape in the middle of suburbia.

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL!!! spot at an convenient location

Great hike and natural beauty. There are a few trails to choose from. Just check for ticks!

Great loop trail. Takes about 2 hours to walk.

Great bike path. I ride here every day. Gets crowded during the weekends after 8am.

This is great loop for some warm up biking. Quite flat but on dirt road. A bit of chalange in one section which gets very muddy after rain. You can also find a nice "short cut" I bike along a small stream.

my favorite quick get away

In summer mode months this trail is super busy, fast bikers make it a bit scary for hikers, do not suggest for small kids unless in a stroller. Lately, Saturday’s there have been scheduled 5k and even a half marathon going on on this trail, no signs posted anywhere, trail is always open, so my husband and I ended in the middle of a huge herd of runners half way through the loop, which made our walk very uneasy. We love biking here as well, but you should get here early in the morning to beat the rush of people.

Too weird. Didn’t finish all. However it’s a good trip. Will give it a second try to make a round trip.

Its a nice get away a bit from the city trip.

Nice paved trail. There’s a Free disc golf course. Parking is off of Wood Street near Quentin.

The scenery is cool but all pavement trails. More a race bike trail than anything else. I have enjoyed it.

Great hike! Did hike a few weeks ago and parts of the trail were super muddy, but that’s to be expected this time of year.

lots of bikes. took our dogs and found a trail that was quiet andd woodsy. dogs loved it. main entrance was very busy and lots of bikes. my dogs hate bikes

Enjoy the inside trails. They are so much fun and very scenic.

Excellent trails lots of friendly runners!

Not bad but some areas can be noisy due to traffic.

a simple hike for any time of year

I went on a hike here with my boyfriend. Very romantic. Gorgeous view by the cabin over looking the lake.

very busy trail at times ...

Very nice for an easy hike, lots of bridges and great views of the river. So far I've only done the outer 3.5 miles. Definitely need bug spray for the more grassy areas.

Awesome dirt trails and several side trails, great elevation changes. My last visit was 8.33 miles going through the brown, teal, yellow, orange trails. Amazing workout. Also has a nice paved loop and a paved trail that crosses over Quentin if you don't like the dirt/gravel trails.

One of my favorites ... there's a few loop trails in here plus the des plaines river trail, so i usually get 5-7 miles in here.

Not a great place to walk dogs on trail or off trail. Heavily trafficked with road bikes on trial and off trail paths are unclear with really tall grass.

If you want a peaceful walk this isn't the place. Fairly busy in general.

I come here a lot since it's close to my house. Heavily trafficked, especially on the weekends by charity run/walk events and such. I would avoid it on the weekends if you want to run in peace unless it's very early in the AM. Couple of formerly flooded patches of the trail have crazy amounts of mosquitoes, so be sure to bring some repellent.
