great trail! loved it!

A very nice walk with amazing big Coastal Redwoods and then Fern Canyon- be prepared for water crossings. Then beach and back up into the old growth forest- just magical. We would rate this moderate only- the trail is excellent. Fern Canyon is slow going with the stream and multiple crisscrossing but great. 20 kms all up and 4 hours 43 minutes. A really lovely day out. So peaceful. Highly recommend.

Beautiful hike through spectacular redwoods. We started at prairie creek visitor center and headed toward fern canyon, which is a site to see in itself. Prepare for wet shoes if you decide to go through fern canyon instead of straight to the trail base. You’re basically walking through a creek surrounded by fern covered walls. From there we headed across the beach to the start of miners trail back toward prairie creek visitor center. Overall it took us about 6 hours to finish, which includes stopping to eat lunch and stopping for many pictures. Would definitely recommend for someone up for some adventure

amazing views and the falls are awesome!!!

great hike!!! loved it.
get there early there is very limited parking at the trail head.

This was a beautiful hike but definitely difficult. If you’re not a frequent exerciser in great shape, I’d say try something else. The incline was pretty intense with not a lot of flat area breaks. Not sure I’d say the view at the top was worth it but it was nice to look at.

One of the best! Start getting into the snow near the top of comet falls, before Van Trump trail.

Excellent trail condition with amazing views. Unique in that one sees so many different environments between old growth groves and the beach.

To quote someone we met at the top of the trail, “This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.”

This is a short distance but vertically challenging hike, with a few sketchy spots of single track. It was really a beautiful trip through the quiet, almost "rain forest" cool coastal mist. I started out feeling a bit chilly on the descent to the rocky beach, but surely warmed up for the ascent from the ocean. This is a gem!

This was an absolutely stunning hike! We happened to go right as the autumn color was peaking. Wow! The added bonus is that you hike to a glacier. It can’t get much better than that. :-)

love love loved this hike. I am active and prepared... those that are sight seeing this hike is harder. I did do this one with my 12 yr old son. views all the way along the trail. a lot uphill. well maintained trail though. fall colors spurt out through the entire hike! so much to see! overall, loved this hike more than any of the 7 mini and I have done this year!

Great hike overall but more difficult than I was lead to believe from various reviews on here. Previous reviews say the first mile is steep, but I say the entire 2.5 miles is steep and can be more difficult at certain points. Good news is that there are plenty of places to pull off to the side to catch your breath and take a break. The view of Christine Falls is 100% worth the trek. If you hike further up you can get a nice cool mist from the falls to help you cool off and is quite refreshing. Parking is scarce so get there early or drive a few feet from the main parking lot to find an overflow lot to park at.

This is a great hike through redwoods down to the ocean. The coordinates from AllTrails took me right to the trailhead. A sign there said the trail was closed .10 miles from the ocean, but I decided to hike in anyway. As it turns out, there are alternative ways to get to the ocean at the end of the descent. That part totally makes the hike great, descending from sunny redwood groves to a cool, fog-shrouded rocky beach. The sign at the trailhead says it is 2.1 miles to the ocean so the round-trip is 4.2 and not 3.5. (See picture). The trail starts of wide and fairly level and then begins a fairly constant descent. After 0.7 miles it crosses the Pacific Coastal Trail and that's where it really gets steep; countless switchbacks until the ocean. The whole hike took me a bit over three hours, including about 20 minutes before heading back up. I'm still getting into shape so I'm sure it's possible in less than two hours. Because of the beautiful redwood trees, so many hikes in this area are great. Damnation Creek Trail is yet another one of them, very much worth doing, particularly if you want a bit of a workout. AllTrails rates this hike as moderate, but the state park literature calls it strenuous. If someone were passing through the area and only had time for one hike, this would be a good one for it.

This was a Great Hike, especially because the weather was good! Must hike all the way for the best rewards! Lots of elevation gain, but with spectacular views at every level. Even got views of Mount Saint Helens.

Very long trail (22km) but beautiful!!!!

Teaser views of the summit along the way, as well as various smaller waterfalls, before reaching Comet Falls. Continue past the falls to Mildred Point for a great view of Rainier, glaciers/glacial streams, and the upper valleys. Well worth the visit! Best visited in late summer/early fall when the snow has melted in the upper valleys.

This is one really tall waterfall. Using a trekking pole was helpful on the way down to keep my 50-year-old knees from getting sore. If you are short on time or stamina, the view from the bridge ABOVE Christine Falls is very worthwhile and about 10 minutes from the trail head.

When you can’t see the mountain, this hike is a nice alternative. Beautiful falls, and a moderate - easy hike. There are a lot of switchbacks and very poor signage so it can be very tiring if you don’t know where you’re going, and continue past the falls to the meadows area. Saw lots of kids on the trail, so it is very family friendly

Great pay off once at Comet falls with teaser falls along the way. Probably best in spring with more water and wild flowers. Not too strenuous. Really enjoyed it.

The waterfall at the end made it well worth it!

Great hike, not a lot of parking. the falls were awesome.

We loved this hike! Moderately trafficked, but parking is minimal. Nice steady incline to keep heart rate up. Beautiful hike even when cloudy, though I can only imagine what this would be like with a clear sky! The falls and the meadow are gorgeous. Took us 3 hours to Van Trump and back with a snack break.

One of the most beautiful hikes I have ever done. The god rays created by sunlight piercing through the fog and the redwood tree branches was incredible and I captured some screensaver worthy photographs. The beach was also spectacular although a bit cold. The trail is steep but not too bad. One of the best hikes in Redwood NP and SPs in my opinion.

Good hike and we made it down to the ocean where we saw a seal swimming! Hike up is a good workout

This is a gorgeous hike but it is definitely difficult, not moderate. Going down is pretty easy but the hike back up is very steep and it’s entirely up hill. I definitely wouldn’t take young children on this. Well worth it for the gorgeous open views of the Redwoods and finishing at the ocean.

Wow! One of the best hikes in the area. This trail is actually a 4.2 mile out and back, with the latter 1.4 miles quite strenuous, but the views and magnificent terrain and ancient redwoods make it worth it. Make sure you go down to the beach at the end to ponder nature’s beauty at water’s edge.

Beautiful redwoods hike that ends at the ocean. Sign says trail ends at bridge but I crossed it with no problems. If you don't feel comfortable using the bridge, just to the side of it you can go down into the creek and up the other side.
