Weekend Hikes ( day) Map

The most difficult aspect of this trail is that it is a pretty steep incline nearly the entire way. I saw many hikers with trekking poles and I think my knees/ankles would have thanked me if I had brought some. that being said, there aren't many scrambles or spots that require much agility, so the trail is not difficult in that regard. Hiked to the summit yesterday, the snow was melting quickly but still quite slick near the top (spikes would have been useful). Use caution with slick shoes and children in the snow.
It was quite warm and the views were astounding.
I would say this trail is popular but not overcrowded. I do advise going early if you plan to hike on a weekend though.

First trekking this and I loved it! Snow was near the summit but made for a more difficult hike. We loved every second of it. There were parts I was thinking it is really this steep? Definitely would do it again.

We chose a beautiful day to snow shoe. Easy hike.

Awesome trail for snowshoeing and hiking! The 360 view of mountains and Mount Hood on a clear day is incredible!

Love this hike all year round! Snowshoed yesterday and after all the snow this past weekend the trail is gorgeous! Brought two dogs with me who also had a blast. Parked at skibowl and walked along the road to get to the trailhead, which isn’t ideal, but it’s well worth it!

Hiked today. Up to a foot and a half maybe more of snow at the half way point and up. Micro spikes/crampons would have been nice in a couple spots near the top. Trekking poles are a must, we shared a pair. Staying near powdered helped. Not too difficult just keep going.

We ended up hitting another trail and doing about 7 Miles. Going downhill wasn’t too bad in my knees in the snow, much nicer than gravel. No mud etc..

We saw three other groups on a Wednesday so you’ll have some people to share the trail with but not many.

In the summer time the views or close to unrivaled, but in the winter I am not sure I would attempt it again. Very muddy and slick, snow at the top, and all whited out so no coastal views or views at all.

the views were good the hike was okay.

Fresh snow today, but not deep enough to need snowshoes or microspikes. A really nice hike

Steep but so worth it!

A great small interpretive and visitor's center. I've been coming here for years. the staff and volunteers and are easily accessible on the trails. There is a shorter year round path and longer summer/early fall only extended trail. No inclines so this path is great for people with disabilities and young children. I've even seen parents pushing strollers on this trail. Lots of birds and other wildlife and river views in some parts.

Great hike but we parked at ski bowl, we weren’t sure if parking was closed or not by hike, some people parked there but there were no parking signs close.
We took of our snowshoes for most of the hike

various easy trails depending on time of year. lots of wild life to be seen.

This was my first snowshoeing trip ever, and my first time on this trail. The hardest part for me was the added mile from parking to trail head especially on our way back. The trail itself is moderately challenging lots of climbing with a couple areas that are flat. The summit was steep and a little scary on the way down as there was ice and just a very light layer of snow. Unfortunately it was cloudy and windy at the top and we didn’t experience the beautiful views we were hoping for. Next time I’ll do this one on a clear day. Hiked 1/20/2018

Not much to say about it. Overal it is a nice hike.

NOTE: lower portion is closed until July 2018 (I posted a pic of the map that shows where). Still a very pretty hike. Went on a weekend morning, and it got fairly crowded as the day went on. Go early in the AM if you want the trail more to yourself.

Pack the jetboil and sunrise hike!!! Dope!

I love this trail - all seasons.
The trail today was mostly snow free up to Mirror Lake, but after that it gets snowy (with the exception of a couple patches). It is definitely doable without snowshoes or microspikes, but I was grateful for my microspikes. Gets a little confusing up top to follow the trail, but just keep an eye on boot prints.

Beautiful day! Be prepared to walk from the SkiBowl parking lot which adds another mile each way. Not much snow to Mirror Lake today, but all snow past the lake to the top of Tom, Dick, and Harry trail. Clamp-ons would be handy, but totally doable with hiking boots. Be prepared for 2' snow at the top.

Steep hill to start you off but a great hike!

Trail from the lake up to the mountain is completely snow covered.

The hike itself is five stars but a star was deducted because you can’t park at the entrance to the hike right now. It’s a little bogus to have to walk nearly a mile on highway 26 when there isn’t snow in the forecast and plenty of space to park. That’s literally the only option unless you want to disregard 14 giant “your car will be towed” and “no parking “ signs.
This weekend, snowshoes weren’t necessary, the trail was fairly packed all the way up but spikes may have made it a little easier. No view today, we were stuck in a cloud but since lots of tourists were scared of the no parking signs, we had the mtn all to ourselves. Will go back in the spring when parking at Ski Bowl doesn’t add an annoying mile and a half of highway shoulder hiking.

The Molalla river recreation area is great for hiking! Just make sure you check the trail map before heading out. The trails are partly well marked but not so much the further in you go! Beautiful area running along the Molalla river.

Great hike! My gps recorded this loop at a little more then 7.5 miles. Be sure to wear good shoes and bring water! The views are spectacular! Great hike in January and even better in the summer months.

Just did this today, great hike, real butt kicker. Stick with it to the top and you’ll get amazing views.

Pretty views. Decent climb. Muddy!!! There is a part of the lower that is like a scramble. The last 1.3 miles is a road walk. It’s lame but there’s a couple waterfalls and some incredible viewpoints. Cliffs areas. 2 dogs have died here!

Great Loop, close to town!

hiked 1/21

smooth sailing, a little rain and some snow at the top.

microspikes would help at the very top but I didn't find them to be necessary.

Oh my goodness it is quite the difficult hike. Steep mostly all the way. but when you get to King Mountain Summit it is just so rewarding. We went on a rainy and cloudy day but the trees kept you dry. You can hear the Wilson River almost the entire hike. When we finally made it to the top there was snow. we didn't get a view because of the clouds nonetheless it was amazing. the way down is hard on your knees so be prepared, 64oz of water is not enough. trekking poles are must. we didn't take any and that could have saved us some energy. You will be starving at the end of the hike. Enjoy don't get discouraged.

It started snowing today, so I was happy to have snowshoes beyond Mirror Lake. I was the first to the top today, so the trail had been covered by last night’s snowfall. If this happens to you, just remember to take a sharp left at the cairn. Enjoy!
