Weekend hike Map

Very nice 5 to 6 mile hike.

Anyone know how far into the trail is the hike? anyone know?

Overall a great experience. I did this route as a trail runner, but the run quickly became a hike. The way up is easily marked and does get a bit rocky in some areas. Views for the top are fantastic and a perfect place to stop for lunch. Beware the second half!! The trail coming down from the peak is tough to follow. I had to refer to this app multiple times to see if I was on the correct route. A few times, I was not. Go slow, be mindful of your direction, and you’ll be fine. Full loop, plus a few accidental detours set me at 11.8 miles. Running when I could, this took about 3 hours

WARNING- We did the whole trail listed here - I would caution against it - after reaching the max elevation the trail down the loop is Unmaintained has many misleading paths and very dangerous - this section is very hard.

Be prepared to up and climb down rock faces

View from top is spectacular and uphill ascent challenging

Full loop will take 5 hours

Great view at the end! I fell while on the way back down on a steep incline with loose dirt (use caution if you’re clumsy, like me).

We arrived shortly after 6:30 am on a Monday holiday (MLK Jr) and we were the 1st car in the parking lot closest to the main trailhead...I believe I saw 3 small lots on Los Liones Dr with street parking, however, when we finished at 9 am parking was crowded.

We did the loop counterclockwise and it was just under 4 miles to get to the Parker Mesa Overlook and even though we did this hike early in the morning we had clear views. Maybe half of the trail was a fire road There are two benches there to rest and eat some snacks. We had a bit of a difficult time finding the trail from there to finish the loop...it is located just to the left of the bench on the left. The trail back is about 1.5 miles on a narrow, steep downhill path with loose dirt and easy to los your footing so take it slow. It was about 5.5 miles and took us around 2.5 hrs to finish.

Great trail and beautiful views. Part of it was closed so we couldn't do the full loop.

Amazng views.

Lovely hike on a cool morning. First 2 miles or so is steady ascent (nearly all of the elevation gain). Highlights: oak trees cluster during ascent, views from the crest (both north and south), rock formations & wind caves near the end.
Note: the map shows leaving from a locked gate, actually the Puima trailhead is the right spot, 100 yards or so south.

Hiked to the view lookout this weekend and my boyfriend proposed! Was an intense hike with lots of inclines, but the view at the end and getting engaged was worth every sweat and ache. There are lots of friendly people on the hike. A guy also came over to us after my boyfriend proposed and offered to take pictures for us. Was so glad he was there so we didn’t have to take just selfies. Thank you guy! Wish we got your name.

Way too crowded.

nice view up top. moderate to hard incline. doable if u are n shape

Great hike
We weren’t really sure where it was going to end so eventually we just turned around and never found the so called loop.
Lots of parking available leading up to the entrance of the trail.

This is NOT a hard hike. Moderate IMO.

Great ocean views.

I have hiked it both ways. Please use gps directions given here as there are a lot of side trails.

Great hike! Awesome views as reward!

Great trail. Beautiful. Full of fog when we went. The only complaint is the app showed the trail as a loop in red. I didn't realize you have to go back the way you came until we were at the top lookout. It would be nice if it wasn't in red showing a loop. Other than that it was amazing and a lot of fun.

First time and loved it! No hiking shoes needed, running shoes are fine. Incline is slow and steady, great workout. Spectacular views of LA skyline and ocean. If I lived closer, I’d do this hike weekly!

beautiful trail "backbone"

Great hike. Beautiful views.

Uphill all the way in but worth the hike for the views from Midway and at the top. You can see from Palos Verdes to County line. Sunrise is worth getting up for!

Love this hike. It’s in town and hard as hell but worth it if you’re fit and want to stay that way. Great views of beaches on a nice day.

I hiked this trail a few days ago. The views from the top are phenomenal! The first 3.5 miles is heavily trafficked and well maintained. Once you pass Danielson’s Monument, the trail is no longer maintained by the park service but is easily followed this time of year. There are some scrambling spots and wide crevices where the trail has washed out. We climbed along the face of one of the peaks, which was pretty sketchy but a lot of fun (we took the back side of the peak on the way down). We didn’t go all the way to the third peak and we ended up clocking almost 11 miles out and back from the Potrero parking lot.

Easy. Not difficult.

Done this trail a few times and it's definitely a good workout. This is perfect hiking weather right now so, was able to do it in a total of 2 hrs and 15 mins. (If you count that I ran it about 1/3 of the way to the top and ran all the way down.

Great hike and great views from the top. Pretty good workout but this is a perfect time of year to hike, except the fires.
