As everyone else has noted, it is so muddy, but so much fun. Even though it was hot, I made sure to wear a water resistant long sleeve layer to fend off mosquitoes as they are everywhere! This hike is technical, so bring some trail running shoes or hiking shoes with some sort of rubber grippy part on the bottom. You will get muddy and wet, so maybe step into some mud to start your hike off right!

Be sure to bring a change of clothes if you choose to jump in the swimming hole :) If you want to take pictures of the waterfall, I recommend bringing a wide angle or fish eye lens to really capture it!

Easy! However we didn't do the rim because of high winds. If you don't like high places pick another hike. My wife cried a little out of fear but I was able to talk her up the falls. Also get ice spikes so you dont fall off the rim.

So the views are to die for. The hike up although short is a super workout. It’s just too busy and getting too touristy.

Like Koko Head, which is also getting too crowded, this is the type of hike I would do a couple times per week as a workout if I lived closer.

It actually takes more time to drive to it than do the actual hike. Plenty of parking.

Tip: water, baseball hat, and sunscreen! There is no shade until you actually go into the pillboxes. Oh, and keep your dogs on leash! There are a lot of dogs on these trails.

Easy hike. Beautiful views

Fun hike. Most people stop around the 1.5mile mark where there’s a table and rest area. Make sure to get out of the airfield before they close-otherwise security has to let you out after you go and find them.

Short and easy with a great view at the top! It's currently fairly overgrown in a lot of areas, but the trail is still very well defined, so there are no issues in finding your way. You might be rubbing against tall grass and brush though since the trail tends to be narrow almost the entire way up.

The view at the end was great. I wouldn’t recommend going after heavy/moderate rain as the trail can be super slimy in parts all over the hike. Heading down after it rains is near impossible. And bring bug spray. As it turns out, mosquitos aren’t very nice.

Using this app was a life saver otherwise very confusing trail.

Hiked today 4/22 at 9am. Street parking was easy and safe. Expect mud and to get your shoes and shorts muddy. The trail comes to a y as your start to decent towards the water. If you go right, You'll end up downstream and will have to hike up 1/4 mile to the falls. We jumped off the lower pool cliff into a 10ft pool. Upper falls was beautiful! We joined two other parties during the hike and had fun. Mahalo.

Did this hike 21 April 2018 with some friends took us 7 hours it was rainy and muddy and being very careful along the crater ridgeline. A lot of people did not continue on to the crater they just did waterfalls and turned around. Which in my honest opinion is more sketchy to climb down those waterfalls than to continue around the crater. This hike is not a easy hike so I would not recommend small children or the elderly. They are some sketchy areas for sure. But we all had a big smile on our faces when we completed the hike and was grateful and humble to come out in one piece!!!

Went during a rainy week, trail was pretty muddy so it slowed us down. Still had a great time.

The trail was muddy but we went the day after a good rain.. I thought it made it a lot more fun! You’ll want to pack swim wear, it also has a rope to swing off and jump in at the falls! Nice hike in, have a nice picnic and head out with plenty of day light. Will definitely do it again on my next visit to the island.

Quite muddy and a bit challenging up the third waterfall... but the best hike we’ve done in Oahu so far!

Hiked on 4/18 to stretch our legs during vacation. Temp was perfect at 8:30a. Tall grass on the shoulder of the well marked path. We both wore shorts and had no issues. Took approx 25 mins to get up and 20 down. Perfect place to share a lunch or a beverage. Recommended for anyone who brought trail shoes. Mahalo.

Watch out for broken glass! the start is nice and easy but there is a lot of broken glass, so watch you fur babies. Definitely in the harder side of moderate but I really enjoyed it!

Very muddy when we went, so it felt pretty dangerous and scary at times. But so worth it once you make it to the waterfall and swim in the water!! Easier coming back than going down. 100% recommend, would wear hiking shoes and bring bathing suit!

If you want to climb the sides of waterfalls and hike thru the jungle, look no further.

We cut out the crater by taking the shortcut, because the summit was socked in with clouds when we went. Just be ready for a long hike -- especially if you plan on doing the whole thing.

A fun hike that is well marked, easy to follow and gradually builds until the top. Decent elevation for sightseeing for those looking to get good views and gradual enough to trail run or bring the dogs. For those not looking to do a difficult trail, but still wanting the feel and great views of the Hawaiian rainforest, this hike is an excellent choice.

Very beautiful hike. They did update the gate outside the Pali lookout, but still somewhat easy to sneak through the sides on the gate.

Such a nice hike up to the waterfall. The distance to the waterfall itself is short, but you can explore so many trails that veer off the main path. We ended up walking around about 4 Miles. It was awesome!

Great loop for trail running! Was fairly muddy when I went. It rains quite often, but even with the rain would still be an easy trail to run. Great trail for dogs of all kinds as well! Not too steep and not too long. Views were limited, but still enjoyable.

Short, steady incline hike. The views and photo ops are great!

Love the views, enjoyed the Leeward side away from some consistent rains recently elsewhere.

A good portion of the trail is fairly overgrown, so pants may be in order if the tall grass troubles you.

Solid moderate as it presents a steady incline and some bouldering needed around the pillboxes.

I absolutely loved this hike! Stream crossings, climbing waterfalls with ropes to get to the tallest and most beautiful waterfall I have seen on Oahu. Also, we were the only hikers on the trail so we had the whole place to ourselves!

I have heard that the "hidden" waterfall is usually only a trickle, but yesterday it was going off! I highly recommend doing this hike after it rains or you may be hiking to nothing.

Micro spikes are an absolutely necessity to climb the first major waterfall to get to the "hidden" waterfall. Becareful, take your time, use spikes and you'll be fine. I'm not a fan of heights and I thought it wasn't too bad.

Park at the beach across the street & be courteous to the neighborhood you're walking through.

If there is a flash flood watch or warning I would not attempt - there are some narrow areas that if you had a flash flood you would be in trouble.

Not a difficult hike considering the elevation change. The switchback routing keeps the grade pretty manageable. I would rate this on the difficult end of EASY. Narrow paths with steep drops likely are what make this trail rate Moderate.

My 7 year old daughter and 11 year old son made the hike with no problem and little complaint.

We took about an hour going up and 30 minutes back down.

Consider wearing pants if you have any grass allergies.

Awesome views. Quite tiring not so much the difference but from the scaling. One of the best trails in Ohau.

Very challenging. Between the thick mud, wading thru the water and climbing the slippery rocks, you'll definitely find the challenge you are looking for. We went the entire route, up through all 3 beautiful falls to the crater ridge and around. (Fortunately there are ropes on the more challenging areas.) Beautiful view of the island at the top. We then came down a different trail to avoid climbing back down thru the water falls. Again, extremely muddy but wow, what a hike! A big beer is a definite must at the end!!

It was rainy and muddy, and we loved it. The falls were really flowing. I took my 1.5 and 3 year old daughter. I did have to carry them for a lot of the trail because it was a lot of uphill and conditions were wet, but it was worth it. I’d do it in the rain again any day.

The trail is as described, we went 5 days ago and it was still slightly muddy from the rain 4 days prior. So just keep that in mind, it does not dry up quickly
