Incredible hike with great views throughout. A little crowded but worth it

Loved what I saw but I wasn't ready and had to stop with maybe 1/4-mile to go. The mountain got the best of me this time but I'll get more conditioned and get it next year! (And likely bump to 5 stars; I only held back because I couldn't verify the great views from the top.)

Parking is the only bummer.

I do like this hike but would rather do echo.

Great hike, just to much people.

Great beginner hike if you're getting into hiking.

This is a great training hike!

Awesome hike. Well marked unless you're myself on the way down. Definitely for more experienced hikers or more driven people in general. Beautiful views of wildlife and the city.

My first time hiking this trail...and LOVED it!! What I learned:
1) Trail is rocky, wear comfortable, supportive HIKING shoes, your feet will appreciate it. Take water shoes or sandals (Teva is my favorite) for when you’re ready to jump in the swimming holes
2) Have PLENTY of water to drink!! When you think you have enough, take some more. Other option is to fill your water bottle at the spring.
3) Watch our for critters...2 fellow hikers saw rattle snakes and 1 saw a tarantula...I got lucky and saw a deer.
4) The sun can be a bit brutal so make sure you have a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses
5) Pace yourself on the way back up, take breaks in shady areas (when you can find one), the trail is exposed to the sun
6) Pack light snacks
7) DRINK WATER!!
8) Have fun!! Happy hiking!!

This trail is very nice and finished by a waterfall !! We took 3h to reach it. At the crossing roads between "Spring" and "Dam", the first one is a little bit longer and you have to cross the river just before the fall but the trail has more shadow and follow the river. Bring a lot of water (we have 3 liters per person), because the return climbs.

Challenging trail. I loved it.

Great trail to take the pup on!

New hiker, with a healthy respect for heights! Lots of scrambling over rocks and steep ascents / descents. Gets very busy, but definitely worth the trip to the top - wonderful views.

Whether you like this trail depends on what you prefer. If you don't want to see a lot of people and prefer a more challenging hike nearby, review trails in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. It's not paved and a lot of people like biking here. But I like this trail because I have so many sentimental memories around this loop and in this park. Because it is easy to walk and easy to find and at a central location in the East Valley, I visit this trail annually. Bonus is the amphitheatre located on the north end of Big Butte Loop. I sometimes bring a yoga mat to this and practice on the pavement for a little while.

Really cool view of all the city lights at night. There are lots of people in the evening still but make sure you bring a flashlight!

More scrambling over boulders than walking on a trail but worth it for the views. Fairly busy on a Saturday but everyone was nice and helpful. I’m a newbie hiker and this was a challenge but very fun.

Easy hike? I’m not sure

overall I'd give the challenge a 4-5 views and the adventure factor 8 was a fun trail. Check out the ostrich farm while down there.. who woulda thought that would be way out there.

Really enjoyed this hike/rock scramble. Was a little more challenging than I was expecting but still worth it once you get to the top. Was there for sunrise and the parking lot was already packed. Bring lots of water it gets hot fast this time of year.

Great running trail. Plenty of moderate ups and downs to get good workout. I've been using this trail, among others in the area, for 35 years.

Quite steep the whole way, a very excellent hike for a good leg workout, plus the views are amazing the entire way up. I stopped every 50 feet and turned around to look over the northern suburbs. The view at the top is absolutely awesome, there arent many trails that get you this high up in such a short distance!

Good hike with lots of nature to take in. Beautiful views at the top! As a visitor to Arizona, I found this to be a perfect hiking trail! Went early in the morning to beat the heat and got to take in a sunrise at the top.

Many argue this side of Camelback is harder. I’m not sure it is. Just different. Midway there is a portion that you have to hold on to the rails, then it’s not hard at all. The other side is easier midway but a little bit more on the edge at the very end.
They are both a really good workout and they are both a pain to park. If you are not there by 6AM, you need to Uber. Views are amazing.

This is not hiking; this is rock climbing! That being said, it was a lot of fun. This trail is not for the faint of heart. Not much parking, and the great city of Paradise Valley does not allow street parking.

Our group from Gold Canyon AZ chose to hike the loop counter clockwise (about 3 miles), and then climb to Piestewa Peaks via the summit trail last so we could take a long lunch break before heading back to the parking area.

Love this hike... pushes you! In training for R2R next month! great workout!

I made it half way up on my first try and they aren't joking when they say Steep and Bring Gallons of water but the view even from halfway up is stunning

This hike is super well marked and highly trafficked. I tried getting to the top twice but the part where you essentially have to rock-climb freaked me out a little so I turned around. If you have anxiety / fear of heights the ascent to the top may not be your jam - but you can always turn around before that (there’s a helicopter landing area which makes a nice turnaround) while still getting the amazing views.
