6" of snow topped with a crust of ice further topped with an inch of snow. Trail broken but post-holed, mostly by four-legged critters, until the first falls, approximately 0.9 miles from the trailhead. After that, not a soul for weeks apparently so I broke the trail myself. Road to trailhead is seasonal and closed so had to park down the road adding about 2.5 miles onto the hike. According to AllTrails and my GPS 4.1 miles from trailhead. 6.9 miles from where I parked.
Trail was great wore spikes but didn’t have to have them. No ice.
This was a great hike for our family. Micro spikes were a great suggestion from another reviewer. Was nervous about the access road in but it was just fine. Beautiful falls and scenery. Heard running water the whole time. (We just went to the falls and back) due to a late start
This was my first time out to the second and third falls. Great hike! I don't know if the road in will be accessible much longer
beautiful scenery, easy to follow, gorgeous waterfalls. recommend micro spikes in winter
Beautiful hike with a gorgeous waterfall! It was too snowy to climb down to the actual falls, but we got a great view of it and the path was well marked and easy to follow despite the snow. Spikes are not necessary, shoes with good traction are fine (we went January 3rd).
Most beautiful hike!
Gets pretty tricky / slippery towards the end, the waterfall overlook is gorgeous but don’t recommend going much beyond it (the descent) unless you’re an expert hiker, and certainly not with dogs or kids.
Very nice area
We really loved this trail! It was totally manageable for my 6 and 11 year old kids, and the rocky terrain kept things interesting. There were some unique boulders that they loved. We only went to the first waterfall, and my AllTrails recording clocked in at 2.6 miles roundtrip (lots of wandering off-trail I guess!). It was quite muddy and slippery after a recent snowfall and lots of leaves, so between that and the rocks and roots you definitely have to watch your footing.
about 3 to 4 inches of snow make it pretty slow going. nice views of the falls though
Easy beginner hike for most of the path. Be weary that if you choose to go to the bottom of the falls, the last leg of the hike can be a bit treacherous and slippery when the ground is wet — you’re essentially scaling down a steep byline on the edge of a cliff. There is some rope to guide you though. Worth the view of the falls though! Exceeded my expectations.
The hike to the first waterfall is fun and moderately challenging for most people and it wasn’t too busy on a beautiful autumn day. The hike to the next falls was more difficult with lots of roots and rocks and we didn’t make it the whole way out with an elderly dog and young son. That said, it was a nice day out and we’d definitely go back.
Got most of the way down. Much easier coming back up
Falls were beautiful. Although the distance is reported to be 0.9 mi from trailhead to fall 1 and 1.2 mi from fall 1 to fall 2, it’s closer to 1.2 mi and 1.3mi respectively. Not a lot of elevation but the terrain has significant exposed roots and rocks, definitely earning the moderate rating. Would do again.
moderate traffic, heavier later in the day. beautiful fall colors right now. easy to follow lots of trail markers. spectacular views.
