This is a well marked trial, but the dozens of fallen trees make it harder to navigate. The views from the lower trail are better, but this trail still had a lot to offer. It is marked as an overnight trail, but it can certainly be covered in a day.

Trail was pretty easy to follow and there are plenty of waterfalls to look at along the way. On the hike in, we went up to Martha’s Pretty Point from the junction just past the cable crossing (solid uphill but nice view and campground). We stayed for about 15 minutes and then left and went back down to the main trail. Finished the trail and at the Falls loop junction (past Big Laurel Falls) we continued straight (lower trail) and down the rocky ridge. Rocky is 100% correct. It’s a rough downhill but nothing terrible. At the “T” we continued to the right and on to Virgin Falls (to the left is Caney Fork River). Great waterfall and a nice camp area. We took the spur trail to the top of the Falls. Very short trip and an easy place to get water if you’re staying here overnight.
There is a junction here to continue on to Lost Creek Trail but we didn’t go that way. We stayed the night and then continued the loop (upper trail), past Sheep Cave, and then back to the main Virgin Falls trail. If you’re not planning to do the entire Falls loop....take the UPPER trail on the way in and out. It’s less rocky, more flat, and generally easier.

The trail itself could use more trail markers past Big Laurel Falls but if you take a little time you can find the trail if you look ahead.
Wood had been pretty well picked through if you’re trying to build a campfire but go a little further out from your camp and you’re sure to find something that has fallen.

Overall a good hike and one I would do again.

Lots of waterfalls in a short hike. Easy in harder out. Like a fellow said we met on the trail “it’s all downhill till you turn around”! He was pretty much on the mark. Slippery rocks and leaves in winter but spring and fall would be awesome!

Absolutely gorgeous if you go all the way to the falls

Great hike with an abundance of small cascades and waterfalls with one of the prettier waterfalls at the top unless you decide to go further. Kind of hard to get to the bottom of the falls but worth it.

Very worth it! Not terribly hard, but very rocky so you have to watch your feet.

Really gorgeous views of the gorge, and a couple falls.

Beautiful falls. Pretty easy hike, not too crowded.

Easy, short hike to pretty waterfalls. Low effort, high yield. Large parking lot right at the trail head. Way too crowded on a weekend though, I passed seriously no less than a hundred people coming and going. Very muddy as well because of recent rains. If you’re coming to Asheville from the east this would be a great pit stop (a couple miles off I-40) but I otherwise wouldn’t go out of my way to hike it again.

Nice easy walk through the woods. Trails were in good condition and well marked. It was wet and a little sloppy in places. My 9 year old had no problems and I managed carrying a 3 year old in a pack.

Absolutely incredible. I live in Nashville, and this trail tops my list for hikes that are within reasonable driving distance. Spectacular scenery with every step.

nice walk in December fall running good small parking lot very challenging steps but worth it

Very pretty trail. Beautiful views of the water. stairs leading to fall are very steep and slippery when covered in leaves. Definitely a return hike

Fun first hike with my Sister

Great trail for families and fairly easy for older hikers. I’m 59 and had no problems. I even traversed down to the river for a photo opportunity.

simple walk down a gravel path. if you go to base watch step, steep and slippery

great little hike, various trails to choose from, check out Busby falls while you are there.

nice hike to the base of the falls, can get crowded

nice hike to a beautiful little falls in what's almost an amphitheater

simple yet beautiful

Great trail not to difficult. Absolutely beautiful scenery along the creek almost all the way up. Be prepared to ford the creek four times up and down.

Wow! Powerful falls!

This is a beautiful waterfall and hike. It is worth the effort over Rocks and crossing rocks on one stream. It is a good climb in elevation so I suggest trek poles and good hiking shoes/boots. Several piles of rocks to walk over.

Awesome trail on a 30F day. Lots of awesome falls downstream. Will be back in the spring.

This was a fun hike. Short, but well worth the time. The falls just keep going. Can be very slippery on the leaves if not careful. Beautiful place to be at 6 am. and 26F. AllTrails needs to add photography to the list in Activity.

Went hiking here a couple months back and was not disappointed! The road to the entrance is a little rough but I didn’t have any problems in my Jeep Cherokee. We went right after it had rained so the creeks were very swift and reached my mid thigh. I would recommend not going when it has rained a lot. Also, definitely bring extra shoes/clothes! Overall, it was a great hike and I would definitely go back.

Amazing!!! The drive there is beautiful, but the parking area is small. The hike is so short tho people are coming and leaving quickly. Short and amazing! A little crowded due to people swimming.

This has to he one of my favorites! Short little walk, some wide steps to take, and then your there! I took my Mom who has back problems and then steps were a little bit of an issue, but she did it and loved this one as well! My only downfall to it is that it is overly crowded.

At the parking lot you go to the right to go to the falls. If you go to the left, you see the higher views! You are literally standing on the side if a cliff so be careful with dogs. That part was very easy but easy to miss the path too so be careful.

The road driving to the parking lot is gravel and bumpy. My little car did okay but I dont think I will stress it like that again.
