easy hike, not too many people were there which made it nicer.

8/4/18 - Came here with my boyfriend and 6month old pup. It was hard to find the entrance but we lucked out by seeing another couple Park and climb up. If you see the Lake Hills sign that’s where you begin your hike. I’ve lived in Corona for 14 years and the first time hiking here so it was beautiful! Didn’t know Corona had hidden treasures. This hike was not so long and easy to follow with the colorful graffiti guiding you.

A beautiful water fall.

Terrible. The element nowadays are pot smokers playing obnoxious music through cheap portable speakers. A lot of graffiti. Avoid the crowds and go early morning

Lots of rocks, would recommend hiking shoes and water shoes for when you get to falls. It’s really nice though, I’m for sure going back.

Very hot! Would be best early am hours. However it was a very nice work out.

The walk up can be a little difficult because of the incline and elevation but it’s worth it once you get up there and see the waterfall.

Beautiful day for a hike to the falls. So disheartened to see the graffiti along the way. I support art and expression, but please don't use Mother Nature as your canvas.

It was a good easy hike, it is definitely kid friendly, had a good time.

We started at the Sorrento Valley Rd Parking lot, crossed over to the North Trail at the Wagon Wheel Crossing and stayed on the North Trail until the Carson's Crossing when we returned back on the South Trail. The waterfall wasn't much of a waterfall due to lack of rain recently, but the area was still pretty. There is a lot of wildlife to see - all kinds of birds (even saw some hummingbirds in the trees at Carson's Crossing), lizards, butterflies, dragonflies, and scat from a bunch of different animals that reside in the Preserve. There is some shade, but not much so be sure to bring lots of water, a hat, sunscreen, and clothing to shield you from the sun. It is an easy hike with minimal inclines. The trail is a mix of loose sand, packed sand, hard dirt, loose rocks. There are a lot of unmarked trails connecting to the main trails so make sure to bring a map to keep track of where you are. The bathroom at the parking area is a single portable toilet. Signs at the trailhead indicate the area has ticks, but the paths are quite wide in most places and easy to stay on the trail - doesn't hurt to use bug spray just in case. We went midday on a weekday and only saw a few other people (some on bikes and some walking) - however, I can see how this can be a busy trail during peak times.

Great walk, beautiful views with a refreshing stop at the falls. The only problem is people trashing the place and not taking care of the mess they leave behind.

Great views !!

This is a nice little 2 hour hike. There is some plant diversity but I only saw two birds. The stream has a few main waterfalls, about 5-15 feet each, and once you reach the top there is great shade under the trees. There is some graffiti on the rocks and I picked up five or so pieces of trash, but was definitely a fun beginner hike with friends!

Time: 10:45am at beginning of trailhead
Followed AllTrails map.
Temperature: 80s.

If you stick to the All trail map, the mileage is pretty accurate. Very little shade on this hike. Path is narrow in a lot of areas so be careful.
If you stop at the location specified in the map, there’s a shaded open area with rocks to sit and lay on next to the river/ stream which was green from the algae but still nice and serene.
There were quite a few dirt bikes at the beginning before the trailhead which kicked up a lot of dirt. They don’t tend to slow down so watch out. Apparently it’s a thing here. The majority of hiking trail does not allow motorized vehicles.

A couple of reviewers mentioned a waterfall on this trail. You need to detour off the trail down a pretty steep hill to go to Aztec Falls. This was about 1/3 of the way in so look out for it if that’s what you want to do.

Tip: bring extra water if weather is hot
Bring poles if you go down to Aztec falls. It will help.

Great walk up to a great view over the city! FYI, the water fall isn't much of a water fall. there's also no real place to dip in the water. if you live near here, i recommend it, but it's not worth a long drive.

Good for beginners! Really nice place!

fun trail not too hard

Both trails that run along the north and south side of the creek are CLOSED. Nothing indicated when they would reopen.

It was my first time going on this trail with my little ones who range from 7 to 11yrs of age. It was a bit hard for them at times but once we got to the creek it was worth it. They got in it and had a blast. We also seen some deer on the way up.

Great first time hike spot. Rocky but worth the hike to the waterfall/stream. Just remember there is a waterfall at the end so keep going. Good for all ages. If everyone picks up one piece of trash we can change the world.

Great hike with an awesome waterfall to play around or near. Fun little "pool" area at the base of the falls to cool down in. Our dog loved it too. If u do bring your dog go early because of the heat....and plenty of water for you and your pooch. Hike back wasn't too bad, the last .5 mile back was probably the hardest. Only saw one snake..

This was a good hike. They have a paid security guard in the area making regular patrols. We talked to him for a bit he was cool and friendly. During the summer the trail closes at 8pm and the gate is locked so make sure you get your vehicle out. There is no parking available outside of the gate. If you happen to get locked in you’ll have to wait for deputy to come up and let you out. I heard a rumor you could get cited. It would be great if the gate stayed open till 9. It’s a good workout, 850ish foot climb over a mile stretch. Definitely will so this hike again.

Went here on a Friday afternoon, no one else was at Aztec falls, was beautiful and surreal. Very steep hike down to the falls; I basically sat down and scooted whole way down, and climbing up was a bit hard, had to find rocks and branches to pull up on. The falls were very worth it! While hiking on trail by bridge heard a noise, looked down to see a huge rattle snake less than a foot from me! We also saw other small snakea crossing the trail! Easily got to Splinters cabin parking area in Nissian Maxima! Beautiful, would highly recommend! Defiantly check out the waterfall, was the highlight of the hike! Very special when no one else is there! Was weary about some of the reviews stating that there was trash all over by the falls. There were a few cans but that's about it, still very beautiful. One of the best hikes in the area! Very much worth it.

Great hike!!! But it’s Splinters trail to PCT. Legit 7 miles of uphill both ways.

Had a great time

This trail was awesome! i went with my friend we are both beginners and we had a great time jumping in the water is so cold and refreshing. It is a very short hike to get to the main pool we did not go up the whole trail we stopped at the main pool in the pictures and explored downstream a bit I recommend this for hikers age 2-adult I saw a 2 year old trooper there and some older crowds this hike is great for all ages just watch out for rocks and snakes. Also you need a parking pass but I think you purchase them in town somewhere? There was no office there to purchase them and there is no cell service.

I highly recommend this hike but read the cautions below.
My fiancé and I went in April and had an amazing time. We are a young and fairly active couple and this trail was not extremely difficult but I can see how it’s difficult for others. I recommend to head out first thing in the morning as the afternoon sun is VERY hot and with the dry heat, it becomes unbearable. There’s barely no shade on the trail so when that sun is blazing, you’re completely exposed to the sun and heat. Come prepared with plenty of water and high energy food. We brought eight bottles of water each and went through 6 easily. The trail is a 1 person wide dirt trail with no barriers and minimal markers. I’m scared of heights and the trail made me uncomfortable at times when it was steep and if I fell I felt like it would be to my death of tumbling down the rocky side with minimal to no shrubs to stop my fall. Other areas of the trail were fine. As we got closer to the waterfalls, there was more shade and trees but larger rocks we had to climb over. We got to a point that we weren’t sure if we were on the right track as there wasn’t a distinct trail to follow nor markers, but then we would randomly find a ribbon on a branch.
At the end of the trail are the waterfalls, they are awesome. I would recommend to bring a swimsuit and a towel, freezing water but a great way to cool off. To get to the top waterfall you have to climb the rocks which are smooth and steep and only have a rope to help you up. Bring good gripping shoes and gloves (if you’re hands are on the sensitive side).
CAUTION!!!
So this trail is completely do able, but be SAFE. On our way we ran into a group in which one of the guys broke his leg and since there’s no signal, they had to carry him back to the car (in which there is still no signal in the parking lot and only signal after an hour drive back towards the highway). If you have a radio, I would recommend to bring a radio with you so you can call for help incase. The man broke his leg going down the old trail in which the rope was removed to prevent people from going down, sever accidents will entail if you try this. Do not rush down the ropes at the waterfall, I saw someone loose balance and almost flew into the tree and stones and would’ve broken his back or head if it wasn’t for his friend saving him from falling to his death. Like I said, be safe, go prepared, don’t be stupid, and you’ll survive without any issues.

Beautiful waterfall!! One of my favorites but extremely crowded! I was wondering if anyone has found the hidden falls or climbed to the top of Bonita Falls??
