With the fog coverage and recent rain, the hike was lovely, but I wouldn't suggest it in midday heat. It's a goat hill, so do some bird watching from time to time to increase enjoyment. Lots of scrub jays, mockingbirds, and others. The view of the valley was outstanding... You can see Sylmar to Glendale. I wore running shoes, and my feet are sore from the rocky terrain. All in all, very rewarding.

Best trail I’ve been on.

Be careful, there is a vicious pit bull chained up at the cabin at the trail head. Today it was out on the trail and bit my hiking companion. We left and the family still didn’t have it under control. It was terrorizing other hikers. Not sure what to do since the bite wasn’t disfiguring but it was bloody. I am not sure if it warrants police action.

We went shortly after it rained, so in the part of trail that Teresa (previous poster) mentions where it gets a bit narrow, we didn’t have any issues with slipping because the sandy dirt was firm from the rain.
Unfortunately, the waterfall was nowhere to be seen, even after the rain but — it’s a fun trail regardless. It has a nice mix of winding through dense vegetation and hiking around the hillside.
We went on a cool day, but we still brought a fair amount of water for us and our dog.

Most of this trail is fairly easy and fun; although with very little shade. The draught has left no signs of a waterfall which I expected but we couldn't determine where one would be. Beautiful scenes with mountains surrounding. After about 3.8 miles in the trail becomes less maintained and more of a jungle. Long pants are recommended if you go pass this point. Lots of little thorny plants that will leave scratches. Parts of the trail past this point were eroding and soft sand making it dangerous for the inexperienced hiker. I would recommend this hike and I would do it again but turn around about 3.5 miles in.

Amazing views of the Crescenta Valley. You definitely need hiking shoes for this one, and poles will help those who need some extra support. Much of the trail is very rocky and you'll be stepping on lots of stones of all sizes. I did this on a cool cloudy day so the sun wasn't much of an issue; but yes, most of the trail is unshaded. Not alot of traffic on this trail either. If you don't like heights, you might not like this trail. Much of the path on the ascent is narrow and follows a ridgeline. Watch your footing!

not a bad hike but not much water at all this time of year and the tail endof the hike there's not much shade but my buddies saw a bear. it should be nicer once we get some rain

This is our favorite Trail in our area. It's a nice hike up to the waterfall and back. We're able to do it in about 2 hours.

Early morning. With 2 dogs. Very nice facilities at trail head. Rocky trail. Bring trail shoes or boots. Narrow single track trail. Spectacular views of Crescenta valley. Only about 40% shaded. Might be better to do at dusk. Steep. Med to hard climb.
Overall a fun hike!

Cool hike. Easy to moderate incline closer to the falls area. Worth the hike. No water last weekend Sept 1 2018. But cool being under where the water fall would be. Also steep decent into falls area but very manageable with rope that is there.

It was a pretty intense hike for a beginner like me. I went on a Saturday and ran across 15 other hikers on this trail (September 1, 2018) It’s a lot of up hill and not much shade. The beginning of this hike is beautiful but the middle to end is uphill and no shade at all (bring sunblock) I also saw lizards, dragonfly’s and a deer! No falls at the end, kind of bummed but gives me more of a reason to go back ☺️ Took about 3hours round trip.

Tips:
•Bring enough water
•wouldn’t bring small dogs
•walking stick
•sunscreen
•picnic area half way through hike

**Also I didn’t have an Adventure pass and had no problems**

Nice moderate hike. There’s some elevation gain but nothing drastic. A little shade as you go but mostly you’re under the sun. Went on a Saturday afternoon and came across only a handful of people. Overall I enjoyed it. Just don’t expect the falls to be moving if it hasn’t rained in a long time.

loved the views from this trail.

Started from Big Tujunga Cyn road, as the gate to the trailhead was locked. Started out at 7:20 AM. It was dry, but very beautiful vistas the whole way. I rate this trail intermediate. Sun hit me at 8 AM where the trail is high on the ridge. Took some pictures of the falls and back to my car at 9:20. Al in All, a really awesome hike.

Beautiful

Definitely on the easier side of moderate but a very nice morning hike. beginning is a mix of shaded and exposed sections of trail with light incline criss-crossing dry river beds which is expected in mid July.

This was the first hike I’ve ever done so I am an out of shape BEGINNER. Took me about 2 hours to get down to the waterfall. Don’t be intimidated by the rope assist to get to the base of the waterfall. I was able to do it with a bit of effort. Not a lot of water but it was so worth getting down there. I really enjoyed this hike and will definitely return.

**I did not buy an adventure pass and had no problems**

Great trail! Began hike Saturday at 6:45 a.m. with one other car in the parking area-returned to 7 more cars at 9:15. Still, definitely a lightly traveled trail-saw 4 or 5 other hikers on the path. Not much incline (most of it approaching the falls) so I’d say this is easier than other “moderate” trails. Saw a rabbit and plenty of birds, lizards, bugs, hummingbirds, and tadpoles. Great views of the mountains from the floor of the canyon. Fine for dogs. Nice picnic area about 3/5 of the way to falls. Falls itself is definitely pretty, although not a ton of water in late June.

My hiking group hikes at night, and we hiked this on a Thursday night around 11pm. We all had bright lights, nothing crazy or scary. Really cool waterfall at the end with a steep descent down and a rope to hold on to. Good hike.

nice day hike. don't be intimidated of the rope assisted descent it's worth the effort.
some poison oak along trail but easily avoidable

Fairly easy hike except near the falls with steep descents that were too tough for young kids. Majority of hike was pretty and trail was well maintained.

Beautiful walk and waterfall.

Beautiful hike with a lot of lush growth and some wildflowers! Nice payoff at the end with the waterfall. You can access the top of the falls and also the bottom via an old rope to aid you in getting back up. Be careful! Bring lots of water

This hike was great although I decided to hike in the afternoon... in June... with no clouds in sight! There are a few patches of shade but once in the gulch it's pretty much sun all the way. it was about 2.3 miles in to the falls so 4.6 round trip. I did it in 2 hrs and 6 min not including the short time i rested at the falls. Overall a pretty easy hike with a few inclines that make you dig in and push. Once you see the falls the fork will come up quick to a steep decent which a portion has a rope for you to use to hold on to. I wouldn't recommend it to the faint of heart, any timid beginners, elderly, people in improper hiking footwear or young children. there was water but the falls weren't magnificent. I'll definitely have to come back after a rainy day!

Awesome hike!
