01/16/21 - Parked at the gate and hiked to the trailhead using the shortcut mentioned by others. Recent rain and refreeze has made the snow firm to walk on, so crampons were utilized over snowshoes. Past Mowich the trail is lost in the snow so GPS is helpful. Took around 10 hours round trip after taking a wrong turn or two. skied down to save some time walking. Didn't see a single other person the entire time

Loved it! Trails easy to follow at first. There is a winter route, we only went half way!

Went in the summer. Hike to water is easy but beware of swarms of mosquitos. Beautiful views. Wildlife spotted. Steep inclines all the way up after you get to the water. Seen better views but still glad I can add it to my list.

The gate is closed, we parked at the parking lot and then walked 2.4 miles or so till we got to an orange sticker type of thing on a tree and then we cut through the woods which saved us some time. We did not make it to Tolmie Peak Fire Lookout due to there being SO much snow. Knee length in most places and in some parts we were in snow almost to our waist. About 1 mile into the actual hike the previous footsteps were gone and we had to make our way through knee length snow. About 3 miles in, the path way just ended and you’re surrounded by trees, snow, and no idea where to go. We had to turn around because it was getting dark and we still had about 8 miles to the car. We got tired of walking in that snow so we legit slid down the mountain following a map on a phone that had to internet just to get back to that road so we can finally get to the car. Now sliding down the mountain cut us about 4-5 miles BUT it’s not the safest way because it’s woods with 3 feet of snow all around with no trail.. I only recommend going if you still have about 6-8 hours of daylight because that snow is not a joke and someone who’s been there recently because I’ve been to this hike before yet it was impossible to pin point anything due to the amount of snow all around. 100% recommend some WINTER hiking boots and Gaiters all up to your neck if you can find one haha

Beautiful. Did a day hike 11/29. Chains are required to enter Mount Ranier National park. Recommend micro spikes and trekking poles as a minimum to help you through the snow. Saw a lot of people with snow shoes and a handful of skiers and snowboarders who hiked up and road down. Looked amazing to do that. Did half the trail and turned around. So gorgeous in the winter. 10/10 and highly recommend.

Amazing trail in late November. Definitely recommend snow shoes or at least crampons. Snow was deep in some parts. Beautiful sights

We took this trail after finding out Mount Fremont was closed due to snow. We were not prepared for the ice in the lower half of the trail so micro spikes are needed for sure. But the snow was beautiful towards the top. Elevation was not awful and it was an easy going trail and we are just beginners. A ranger did tell us it will be closed soon due to snow

What a terrific trail. It has been snowing on the trail and I would highly recommend not going on the trail unless you have snowshoes. just before Panorama Point the snow was waist deep and hard not been traveled.
