Was looking for any easy hike to enjoy the PNW and the snow. Wasn’t too crowded when we started but more people arrived mid day. Some spots were icy so we stayed to the side of the trail. As a dog owner of two, I find it sad to see other dog owners not picking up after their dogs.

Beautiful!

pretty views and great trail for beginner to intermediate hikers

Very beautiful and unique. The waterfalls are awesome. I hiked off the trail and climbed the rocks to get to the waterfall.

I hiked up lake 22 on 12/5.

Many parts of the trail was icy. It would be helpful to have spikes.we brought our spikes, but we didn't use them. However, it would have been a lot easier to go up and down certain parts had we had spikes on. The snow around the lake is absolutely beautiful. We walked around the lake, and the snow on a trail was packed.

way to over crowned its like the pumpkin spice latte of hiking.

Beautiful hike! You definitely need snow cleats and a pole, but no snow shoes required. This is a popular trail, so the snow on the trail has been compacted down. We started at 8am and only ran into one group of hikers at the top, but we passed plenty on the way down. I definitely think the snow makes this hike more beautiful! Great hike, even if you're new to winter hiking.

Hiked to lake 22 today knowing that it is a very popular hike we thought a mid week hike would deter a lot of people. Well we were wrong. We arrived just before 9 and there was only 2 other cars in the parking lot. But on the way back down we ran in to everyone. I was a little underwhelmed by the hike after hearing all the hype. There is about 8 inches of snow once you hit the lake but since it has been so nice out for the past few days the snow is iced over and very compact. Did come across a few places that you had to watch your step because of water frozen over on the trail.

Over crowded trail.

Amazing peaceful hike. Hiked Friday last week and was snowing heavily. Wore Yaktrax but some steep icy switchbacks near summit so lightweight spikes would have been better. Had to scramble a little and butt slide down parts. Park in Alpental Ski area then walk up road beyond the ‘No vehicles sign’ and the trail is on your right: look for steps.

Overall beautiful. Lots of water crossings so def need waterproof boots.

This is a nice trail, but very heavily trafficked (at least on weekends)
If it's not foggy, you can have a clear view of the valley somewhere near the lake. A lot of moss, a few waterfalls and river streams to cross, typical PNW landscape.

The lake is nice, was snowy when we went (Dec. 2nd).

You need to find a stone graffitied “falls” and veer off the main road to the left to find the yellow diamonds trail to upper and lower falls, goodluck! To enter the trail we went over a white hurdle, continues by the lake and up towards your right, immediate left turn to the “do not enter” (referring to vehicles) kind of tricky but WORTH IT!

quick super easy hike. tons of people out and about. overall great easy hike

I went there this morning December 1/2018. The the first mile was very easy and my micro spikes were enough. The snow got deeper so I used my snowshoes. It was the perfect day for it.

One of my favorites of the Seattle Tinder pic circuit. The views at the top are so so amazing and the hike is a bit challenging.

A nice moderate hike with great views at the top! A decent elevation gain and dense forest to hike through.

BEAUTIFUL Hike! Worth the destination AND the journey. There are three ledge lookouts. Most people just stopped at the first before turning back. It's worth hiking another 1/4 mile or so to the next two ledges. the All Trails Topo map makes it easy to find them. I went on a Thursday. There were definitely others on the trail, but not nearly as crowded as it appears to be on the weekend. If I lived in the area, this would be a reocurring hike for me.

7.5 miles round trip, 2 caches, lots of fun.

Excellent trail, well maintained. Nice path, very gorgeous view. It was Smokey the day we completed so could have been better, but we did expect that!

The hike was not bad over all. Not very well marked on the trail which ways to go. There are several residents that live in the area. It wasn't muddy or too cold. The view of the waterfall wasn't too impressive as I had hoped.

Nice hike. Was not too muddy. Not totally sure that we found the right falls, but we found some. They did not look like a picture that was shown us when we wanted to confirm we were in the right track. There was much more to explore then we had time for, so we will definitely be going back.

Very easy hike in, trail just a little slick in areas by the falls. Falls were gorgeous and very enjoyable to listen to.

I came out for novice snowshoeing and was disappointed to realize that not only was this location VERY crowded with loud children and off-leash dogs, there was someone flying a very loud drone over and over the lake. The trail itself would be an alright paved loop, but the mediocre scenery coupled with the overt lack of courtesy by others on the trail made this a very lackluster experience. This was like driving 40 miles to have the same experience I'd have in a crowded city park. I absolutely would not come here again.

Excellent trail that is great for beginners. As other reviews state it is an extremely busy trail so try to get started as early as possible to get a good spot at the top. If you are so inclined bring a trash bag to help pick up the litter, unfortunately people leave quite a lot of trash at the top.

If you're feeling froggy when you reach the lower ledge keep hiking up another mile or so and you can get to the middle ledge, which is much less crowded and offers the same amazing views. I haven't made it to the highest ledge yet but that's the goal for next time!

It was a bit crowded but well maintained and beautiful weather on the 50 degree sunny late November day.

Amazing hike with great variety—forested dirt-pack trail, through a pastoral field, across an old rock slide and finishing walking up a 1.25 mi up a tree-lined and pasture road back to parking. All of this with spectacular viewpoints of the Gorge. And perfect for a sunny Fall day with changing leaf colors. Will definitely do again.

It was a gorgeous day though very WINDY!! I loved the entire hike - the only slight bummer is you’re hiking the road at the end which is boring. But it didn’t keep me from enjoying it!

it’s almost an hour hike to the top and 1 hour return, very beautiful on the top, but super dangerous. Totally not recommended for those who hike with kids, some people have fallen and died from the ledge, but it worth it, amazing view when you reach the ledge.

We needed more time! Almost made it to the top. We will be back!
