A must climb if you are just starting out and have big dreams of climbing!

Visit it in winter should be much more beautiful than other seasons as there are snow everywhere, not just around the cave.

Nice day heading up to Goat Lake. There is some snow on the trail but not deep or icy. Road is very potholed on the way to trail but manageable. Hike was very pretty, beautiful forest and Mountain View’s and pretty easy going.

Such stunning views this time of the year, I was "wowing" the entire time. The recent snow makes everything look even more beautiful. Went at 7:30 am today. Didn't find any other hikers even after I was about to leave.

Easy hike with great views. Go early - before 8am for least crowds, good light and a run.

stunning and well maintained trail. more of a walk than a hike, but the ice caves and waterfall are gorgeous!

12/8/18
Took the lower trail out and upper trail back. Definitely recommend taking both trails as on the lower you get views of the river and upper you get better views of the mountains. Upper trail is a bit longer so be prepared for that if you use it for the way back. Both are well maintained and it's a fairly easy hike.
The lake is absolutely stunning and views of the mountains and waterfalls won't disappoint!
Still now snow cover as of date above, although some icy spots during stream crossings. Mountain loop highway has no snow as well. Dirt portion is in a bit of rough shape so low cars might struggle with all the pot holes.

great work out still feeling it. some snow up top also

Totally packed in on Saturday December 8th. This hike is no joke! Killer on the knees. We only needed microspikes and poles starting around the 2.5 mile mark, however with the predicted snow this week, this would easily become a very difficult snow shoe. Avalanche danger is high here, so be sure to check that avy stats before you go or come prepared with adequate training.

Definitely a work out on the way up!

Beautiful!

Great hike! It was chilly today and we didn’t bring enough layers but still very fun!

Beautiful hike! You definitely need snow cleats and a pole, but no snow shoes required. This is a popular trail, so the snow on the trail has been compacted down. We started at 8am and only ran into one group of hikers at the top, but we passed plenty on the way down. I definitely think the snow makes this hike more beautiful! Great hike, even if you're new to winter hiking.

as of 5 dec the road is still open. this a very pretty and easy hike. the frost is making it a bit slick but nothing to worry about. national forest pass is required or a national park pass as well.

Good hike, switchbacks get a little tiresome coming down. Once the trail opens up near the top, it becomes a winter wonderland! The summit was socked in, but I was able to get a glimpse of some nearby peaks through the clouds. Lots of people on the trail, so parts of the trail got a little slick. Most had snowshoes but were rarely used. I carried snowshoes and microspikes. Microspikes were wildly helpful but not absolutely necessary. It was a great morning!

Over crowded trail.

Amazing hike, not too difficult even in the snow. Wen tin Dec.2,2018. Microspikes/crampons definitely help in the icy spots. Weren’t too many good view points at Talapus Lake but kept going to Olallie Lake where it was more open and offered great view points of the lake. Would love to see how it looks in the summertime as well.

Amazing peaceful hike. Hiked Friday last week and was snowing heavily. Wore Yaktrax but some steep icy switchbacks near summit so lightweight spikes would have been better. Had to scramble a little and butt slide down parts. Park in Alpental Ski area then walk up road beyond the ‘No vehicles sign’ and the trail is on your right: look for steps.

Overall beautiful. Lots of water crossings so def need waterproof boots.

Did this hike today, no snow, very flat, just really long. There were a couple of little creeks to pass over, nothing crazy. We didn't finish the hike, it would have been dark by the time we got back and we waited to be leaving before it got dark. I would definitely plan on leaving earlier next time. Only saw a few people didn't seem to be a very popular hike but it was very well kept, looked like it was recently serviced! Other than a few potholes on the way up the road to the trailhead and our poor time management it was a pretty nice hike.

We did this hike on Sunday 12/2 between 10am-2pm, the actual road to the hike was uphill and lots of potholes in the beginning but it does get better and turn into an actual road closer to the top of the trail. Snow on the entire trail, gets a bit deeper closer to the top about 1 inch of snow. Not very crowded, saw more people as we were coming down than going up. The last section of the hike is like a mini rock climb to get to the tower you have to climb up some rocks and then climb the ladder to the tower, bring good snow gear if you plan on going to the very top at this time very cold and icy! Great hike overall, one of our favorites. Bring northwest forest pass!!

Nice hike, but unfortunately weather wasn't great at the top and we had no view at all. Saw a lot of people carrying snowshoes on the trail but nobody needing to wear them. Definitely helpful to have microspikes the second half of the hike, but not necessary. I didn't put mine on until the way down to make it a little easier. A hike that I will have to do again when the sky is clear.

I didn't get to record my hike, make sure you download the map before you leave home. Really easy hike, bring layers.
went 11/30 - rainy and at times muddy.
we only went up to the ice cave, did not go into the cave. beautiful views all around.
bathrooms at ice caves TH are closed.

Great mile hike in. Ice caves were enormous! Can’t wait to check it out in the summer.

I went there this morning December 1/2018. The the first mile was very easy and my micro spikes were enough. The snow got deeper so I used my snowshoes. It was the perfect day for it.

Relaxing, safe, easy walk. great views and people- and dog-watching.
