north on nf-90 past the intersection of nf-90 and curly creek isnt plowed... however there are tire tracks with packed snow which could presumably be followed in a higher clearance vehicle than my medium suv (middle was scraping). Just saw the single set of tire tracks.. unclear how difficult a turn around would be.. bummer.
This is one of my absolute favorite trails and waterfalls!
The forest road going up to the falls is still very snowy as of 2-21-21. Would highly recommend high clearance and good tires, got the wife’s Impreza stuck about two miles from the trail head and had to turn around. Will definitely be back when the snow recedes although I was really hoping to get that snow shot
Do not attempt if you do not have a 4x4!!! Roads to the start point are snowed in and icy. It is a one way and can be scary if you get stuck. Would wait for the snow to melt a bit
Made the drive up in a sedan. It was doable but had to drive 25 and under on NF26. Pit toilets at the trail head were smelly. Hike was beautiful. We took 3 hours and 45 minutes going all the way to the top of Mt. Margaret, and several breaks and a lunch break. At the base, before ascending to Mt. Margaret there is a horizontal scramble, with a little washout before it. All three of us made it across, but definitely take caution.
Beautiful as usual. There were downed trees on the road and one fully covering the road (Down tree across road just after mile marker 27, but down trees and boulder on road between mile maker 21 and 28..see photos). We moved a chunk of the tree on the side of the road giving us enough room to get by the tree and make it all the way to the Lower Falls Day Use Parking lot. I was expecting trees down on the trail, but it was surprising clear and mostly dry with a few muddy spots. We didn't see anyone else on the trail which is a plus during COVID times.
The road to the trailhead was a little rough. There were some trees across the road and a big boulder on one side of the road. We parked .7 miles away from the trailhead but it was an easy walk from there. The trail is well maintained. A few muddy spots but that was expected in February. All 3 of the falls are beautiful to look at and easy to get down to. 10/10 recommend and would do this again.
It was a edible on the road. The trail was perfectly maintained and beautiful the lower and up falls were stoning. My teenage girls and husband and I loved this hike
For those wondering, the road was perfectly drivable 1/28/21 and I didnt see a single other soul the whole time I was at the falls! Definitely a magical place to be. One of the prettiest falls in the US!
Amazing trail, camped at lunch counter on 8/15 but extra windy conditions turned us back. Would definitely recommend getting some experience with an ice axe before attempting, it’s pretty steep and icy in parts. Up to the lunch counter is long and kind of hard, but totally doable and pretty casual. We didn’t make it higher than that, but it does look pretty epic :) love to come back another time. The glissades were perfect in August, a little scary at first, be sure to HANG ON to that ice ace but serious such a fun day.
A little muddy and a little narrow. A little steep. Not crowded at all. Beautiful and totally worth the walk.
1/16/21: Got within 6 miles and had to turn around due to downed trees over the road. So frustrating on such a lovely day. Was really looking forward to seeing the falls with heavy flow.
Trailhead was hard to find. No cell service in the area. Was a fun small trail once we found it.
Lightly traveled today. Trail in good shape. Parked at the camp ground. Detoured around middle falls. Great outing especially for January.
Beautiful waterfall and thanks to the rain it was really roaring! This review is more for the road and parking conditions as of 1/2/21. The center section of the road is clear but there was a decent amount of snow along the edges. Plenty of room to pass in the narrower sections. The large pullout for parking was a nasty, wet, slushy, muddy mess however and we opted to park my Mini along the side of the road in a wider section that didn’t block traffic. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to pay close attention to weather conditions if you’re considering making the trip up.
more of a really short walk, but beautiful.
Short walk to both upper and lower and it was breath taking. The falls are massive and so beautiful. The road driving there was icy when I went and trees were down so be careful driving.
This was an amazingly beautiful place. Both trails are in great condition.
No snow or ice on 12/21/2020. It was a very water logged trail though, lots of big puddles and streams between middle and upper falls. We were able to park at the rec/campground day use area. We didn’t see another person out on the trail!
Pictures can’t do justice to this magical place. Please heed the trail signs and stay within the railings. People have died here.
There's a sign that says something about staying on the trail... obviously everyone is illiterate, so eventually no one will be allowed to visit this spot.
