Huge tree down that I had to climb under. I was running so that was a hindrance. Trail is nice and shady for walking Easy to park.

My son (11) and I enjoyed this trail. We got a little mixed up and ended up on the bike only bit (Lake View Loop) but gutted it out until we regained the hiking trail. We clocked in a little over 7 miles total in 3 hours with a pause for lunch in there at the halfway mark.

Definitely will come back and maybe bring the bike out!

Very scenic trail ! Took lots of pictures ! Will walk this trail for my fourth time on August 11, 2018!

This is my favorite trail in SE Virginia. Very shady and around 10 am a breeze can be found during the hottest months. It can be as hard as you want it to be. I have hiked this trail on a healing broken ankle and I have built up my trail running endurance on this trail. You can even build your hiking endurance by wearing a back pack. There are rolling hills that really work the hamstrings. There are many deer that walk throughout the woods, plenty of turtles, lake birds and I have occasionally seen a bald eagle. Although I have seen couples trying to use strollers and wagons for small children, I don't recommend it. There are many 6x6 beams that run along the inclines to prevent erosion to which these people have a difficult time. There is an area of botanical interest where many flowering plants and trees have a place. They rate this as an "easy" trail, but make no mistakes about it, there are plenty of rolling hills. This is probably the only rolling hill trail in all of south eastern Virginia. At times it can get quite busy but I have never found it to be so busy that I can't enjoy it. The people on the trail actually make it safer since the trail is 5 miles through the woods. There are portable potties but they are not always clean with tp. I know of 3 areas they can be found; 1. At the head of the trail, 2. 2.5 miles into the trail off to the left (look for a wide open area with stump in middle of trial), 3. The last one being at the end of the trail. The 5 miles takes me close to 1.5 hours to walk, less to run. This is my favorite trail in SE Virginia because of the varying terrain.

Lake views and bridges are great. Well maintained. Occasionally crowded.

Very nice trail! It has many bridges and overlooks of the water. It has many turtles and ducks. I would call it a nice relaxing walk or running trail perfect for couples, athletes, fishers, and family’s. It is also a very easy trail to walk with many places to sit so if you have issues walking long distance or children this is the place to go.

This is a great trail for walking with the family, hiking, and running. pet friendly and it's possible to bring a stroller as well.

Not what I was expecting. Trail was longer, and didn’t get the elevation gains listed. Recommend going counter clockwise. Great if your looking to camp with family and want a variety of activities. This was long, a lot of greenery, but no spectacular views, so a little boring for a solo hike

Love this trail! Slightly difficult at times but it encourages you to keep moving. Best to go during the week. This trail will lead you to Belle Isle and even to Browns Island if you chose to keep going.

Nice hiking trail. Not long or hard, mostly flat with a lot of bugs. Lots of sea shells to look for on the beach.

First Landing Park trails, in their entirety, are great way to spend your entire day. For the most part, they're all flat trails, with the only challenge coming in their length depending on how much you prefer to walk. Be sure to pick up a park map from the trail Center. It's worth noting that there's also a parking pass fee ranging from $5 to $10 depending on the time of year.

Trails were narrow and difficult to follow, so chose to bail out and run across the street on the Noland Trail.

As an avid runner, I wouldn't recommend this one. It seems good for biking.

Lakeview is a bike trail, so if you start on Powhatan Trail walking you have to turn back at the Lakeview Loop.

Great all around trail. You can start in different directions for diversity. I have walked if plenty of times and I look forward to running it.

Excellent trail. Great for all fitness levels. Great place to walk with your dog or run if you're looking for more of a challenge.

This trail is awesome! But it gets crowded on the weekends.

Very beautiful. The walk around the lake was amazing in winter :)

Could not find a restroom for a long time.

Not difficult ~5 miles depending on what route you take. Generally not too crowded, with some nice views. Great hidden gem in an easy to get to location in Newport News Va.

I'm not much of a fan of gravel stone or hiking access roads, which this trail has too much.

This was a nice stroll through the woods with a few gorgeous views of the river. There were some interesting historical markers along the path which was pretty neat. There were a few easy climbs but nothing to difficult. The trail was wide and clear of debris and roots. FYI there is a $4 parking fee. I only gave it 4 stars because the first part of the trail was not well marked and I did have to back track. Would recommend.

Great city hike. Easily done by most parties. Doesn’t even seem like you’re in Richmond!

This is an excellent 4+ mile in-city walk/hike; it's much more invigorating than a flat surface walk w/rises, twists, rocks and roots to navigate. During the week in the mornings it is not heavily traveled so it's often quite peaceful in the woods (unless the train is running).
