This trail is great. It has beautiful overlooks and cool natural features. It isn’t very hard either.
Also near the beginning of this trail, there is a short trail that leads to a waterfall. This trail is kind of hard but worth it.

I love this area! This trail is perfect for those who haven't hiked in a while. Waterfalls, views, swinging bridges. Apparently there was a tornado in early November and the trail suffered a lot of damage. It's clear now but one should use caution. There are broken branches and whole trees leaning and hanging overhead. We heard a loud crack and watched a large limb come crashing down right in front of us. They've also had rain which has left some parts of the trail submerged. Not too deep but plan on getting wet feet. The rain has also increased the flow at the falls, it's pretty spectacular. Right below the falls is a good place to take a break, we stopped for lunch and enjoyed the view. Rattlesnake Point is breathtaking. Talk about a vista! I expect in the spring and summer it comes by it's name honestly. I'm looking forward to exploring other parts of Savage Gulf State Natural Area.

We had a great time. Didn’t know about the caves until after, guess we will look for them next time. But it’s a fun trail to hike!

The trailhead was pretty challenging to find, but the trail itself was well marked. The hike was nice with beautiful views and overlooks. The falls were dry, but it was still well worth the trip!

Really good easy/moderate trail with large rock formations, a beautiful view of the river and lots of small paths to explore. Will definitely be back. My husband, four year old and I did 2.5 miles exploring it today. Parts of the trail were muddy but overall it was in great shape.

Well laid out trail, you can stop at the overlook at the top of the falls but the real payoff is going around to the bottom of the falls.

Great trail with wonderful views! I was impressed with how well the trail is marked throughout the route. I would also strongly echo what others have posted - go clockwise (big creek gulf first) or else you are in for a very steep scramble at the end of 9 miles!

Great views!!

So much fun! 6 miles round trip, 9 river crossings. Deepest part was up to my knees and on a couple crossings, the current was strong! Each crossing has cables so that was helpful. The waterfall, the window cliffs view at the top and the water crossings make this a new favorite!

It was in the 40’s when we started the hike. The Water crossings were frigid! All crossings were mid shin to mid thigh! Not a good hike if your wanting to stay dry! The waterfall was way rad! The cliffs at the end of the trail were an awesome to eat some food and enjoy the view! On the way out it was in the 60’s the water was still cool but much more tolerable. The last thing you do is walk up 300 ft of elevation right before the parking lot. Probably not a good hike for small children, but very fun!! Will do again!

this is the fourth time I've been to this trail. usually it's great but today the trail was closed due to dangerous conditions and fallen trees from a recent storm. We hiked anyway but encountered many obstacles that forced us off the main trail. We never made it to the falls due to impassable piles of large fallen timber, brush and branches. Heed the warning signs until they finally get the trail cleaned up and cleared again.

Nice hike to do in the fall. We loved the water features along the way!

Beautiful year round.

beautiful in the autumn colors; peaceful in its isolation, almost other-worldly...

SUCH a pretty terrain. I’d never take a small child to this one because of all of the bluffs but I’d definitely go back

Very nice hike - fairly easy - just the distance. Waterfall is beautiful as is the overlook. Great walk for someone like me trying to get into shape and get some outdoor time. Was fun!

Awesome trail. The views are excellent. We did the full loop clockwise, which I would highly recommend. Going down into the gorge was very steep and rock filled. The gorge itself was lovely, and the river was flowing pretty strong. The way back up to the rim was not near as steep as the descent (again why I would recommend clockwise). Overall a good challenge but very doable if you are active.

beautiful beautiful beautiful

hard but worth it. cross water 10 times

This is an awesome trail hands down! The trail along the ridge top is pretty uneventful and easy going, but it definitely gets tougher along the creek bed. There are plenty of water features along the creek and plenty of great spots for photos. The trail can be very rocky and uneven sometimes along significant drop offs. Definitely a good idea to have a walking stick or trekking poles for this one because there isn’t much to hold onto for balance. Definitely a great hike despite the difficulty!

These trails include waterfalls, creek walks, bluff views of the water and forest below, and some rock climbing opportunities. About six miles if you take it all in, probably more if you explore all trails. As stated, trails are very well marked. Go enjoy it!

Our family waited until after a night of rain todo this hike, based on some of the advice we read in other reviews. We’re glad we did. The falls were slightly more than a trickle...lovely, but might have been dry if we’d gone the day before the rain.
The trailhead, as others mentioned was confusing to find, but GPS and this trail map helped. Our 17 yr old did go down the cave-like hole to get to the very bottom of the falls. It made this mother a nervous wreck, because he had trouble getting back up & out! I would not advise doing that alone without someone, or a rope or both, to help you.
Overall, beautiful hike we will do again!

Nice hike!

Enjoyed the hike with my wife and our dog. I plan on going back to trail run it soon.

Don’t go during hunting season! Had planned to hike from the trailhead to Welch’s Point and back. Closed for hunting events. Soooo we heeded the warnings. Parked and did the short trek to Welch’s. Plan B - back to Virgin Falls trailhead. Did a 5 mile loop out to Martha’s Pretty Point. ‘‘Twas a great great day!

Great hike little tight in spots but swimming hole is worth it!

Beautiful trail. We added on the arm to Sycamore Falls. 5.1 miles total and took 1hr 42min.
