Love this hike a lot. Just be careful because toward the end there are steep hills with loose gravel. ALSO it’s easy to get on the wrong path with the trails that meet with it so I would have this handy dandy map out.

Great out and back with fantastic views of SLC. Really green, even in late summer. If you’re a birder, great high elevation coniferous forest is likely great in the morning. With only ~1000ft elevation gain, going up isn’t difficult and switchbacks aren’t bad. About 65% of the trail is shaded which is great. We hiked this mid-day in August, sunny spots were hot, but plenty of shade. Every group we ran into that afternoon was all women, get it ladies!! Not in any rush, this took us about 2.5hrs. Do be aware that there is a $3/car area use fee on the way out

Great short but steep hike! Perhaps not the most scenic by comparison to its southerly bigger siblings, however Mt. Wire is an awesome experience unto its own. Great views of northern Salt Lake. Be sure to climb the ladder at the top for even better views!

A bit short, but the view is fantastic.

Stick to the south trail. Follows a stream the entire way. There are some trout if you fish the deeper pools. At 1.2 miles there is a fun swing attached to a tree about 20 feet high. Lots of fun for kids. The next 1.5 miles is gorgeous with a waterfall around the 3 mile mark. One of my favorite trails around

pretty easy, quick hike. Really beautiful views of the city. There is a lot of loose gravel is some of the "peaks". The rest is pretty much dirt. Would definitely do it again.

Went on a Sunday morning around 9:30 and there were a handful of groups so I felt like I had the place largely to myself. Several stretches suitable for running back. Right now it was pretty smoky :(

Plenty of shade, good views, it doesn’t cross any rivers or streams and that’s a good thing sometimes. I’ll be back to enjoy this short hike again sometime.

Great trail. Went up to Thayne peak. Pretty steep the last 300m. But what a view. Worth the extra effort.

Not bad hike to gain some elevation to watch the sunrise

Busy trail, very shaded. I wouldn’t recommend it for young children. Awesome view at the top.

7/22 - Pretty busy (but went on Founders Day). Hot but was about 50% shaded. A decent view for the effort exerted.

Started the hike at 5 am and it was awesome!!! I would definitely recommend doing it early morning since there isn't lots of shade through out the hike. Also, the city lights looked amazing!

great time with kids. A little longer than at haff thought but pretty scenery .

Was a super fun hike, it was overcast when my boyfriend and I went so it wasn’t to hot. Lots of beautiful overlooks and it was definitely challenging but an all over fun hike.

Great hike with a mostly shaded trail. Tons of switch backs with gradual elevation gain. My Strava shows this as 4.8 miles RT. Pretty views along the way and a great view of the valley at the top.

Loved it. Very easy hike even for a beginner like me. Parts of it are steep but I went up and down in like half an hour. Good for a nice workout.

Though we've walked this trail many times, this is the first time we stayed past dark. It's amazing to watch the city light up after dark. It may be a good place for stargazing too. Keep in mind in the summer, since it gets dark later to park in the right spot so you don't get ticket. After 10pm they issue parking tickets of $30. (Which rise all the way to $150 if not paid within a particular time period.)

Awesome trail. It’s gorgeous, plenty of water and waterfalls, there are fire pits all along the trail and a nice big waterfall near the end. If you go far enough as well there is a fun swing. Definitely a fun weekend hike.

I thought the view was great but there was graffiti and trash all over. Kind of disappointing. And, while labeled easy, it’s a bit of a uphill and not easy for many.

Favorite hike on mid days. shady and fun. did see a rattlesnake about mid way.l

Lots of switchbacks!! But overall fun trail with the pup!

Great trail that stays in shade and cover

Easy hike to the top at Ensign Peak! Beautiful views! A bit rocky but somewhat easy to navigate. Also a fun place to watch planes take off in the distance. Beautiful view of The Great Salt Lake.

Good moderate hike, beautiful waterfall and fun swing! I didn’t see the waterfall on the way up the canyon, but found it by accident on the way down. To find it, as you head up the canyon, you’ll notice a steep drop in the trail after you’ve been steadily climbing for some time. The trail naturally veers to the left. If you go right and head down about 20 yards, you’ll find it. Then turn back around and finish the trail where there’s a swing, a bench and a fire pit.

Fun and beautiful hike, but it was pretty hard and the steepest part is at the end. Definitely took more than an hour.

South trail was nice and fairly comfortable to get out of the 102 degree weather. There is a lot of wasps on the trail and a few snakes. was a bit disappointed in the falls but I'd still do this trail again as it was shaded a lot be and it follows the creek the whole way so no problem with a water source.

A great quick morning hike that'll get your heart pumping. Lots of runners and bikers around here and very dog friendly
