50/50 with loose and firm packed trails. Very pretty. Good snow and fun.

Caveat to this review - we only did what we could from the Breckenridge Sawmill Museum East about 1/2 to the listed starting point (Boreas Pass and CR530ish)..
Went out today on snowshoes. Great hike. Great views.
Ton of snow - trail is packed/broken in few spots, but completely unfindable right now.. We followed the map a bit but mostly followed some backcountry ski (or telemark?) tracks. Breaking trail was waist high powder in places. Not for the faint of breath right in conditions right now.
At times the snow was 3-4 feet deep. Very powdery. Appropriately sized snowshoes are a must for the portion East of the Sawmill.

That said, east from the sawmill is packed down with all the traffic... So that can be done sans snowshoes for the most part.
Parking at sawmill is good - it is plowed with 8-10 spots. We were one of two cars there today.

Beautiful views - we went the day after a fresh snow and it was perfect! Spikes were helpful but not required if your shoes have traction. Great overlook spots.

Spectacular views! It’s a very short and easy hike with a lot of reward. The snow was packed down so no snow shoes or spikes were needed.

Very flat and easy trail, our dog loved it! Castle was pretty neat but a bit more modern than we expected. The river was partially frozen and gorgeous to see.

Very beautiful after a light snow fall.

Loaded up the mountain bikes to ride this trail, LOL too much ice. We hiked it and would recommend bringing the spikes with you. Can't wait to ride it in the Spring! @monumentkettlebells

A couple couples making out all over. Should be called ‘sapphire love point’ in my opinion.

NO DOGS ALLOWED.
Nice little hike, would do again!

Perfect, simple hike offering spectacular views of Dillon Reservoir and the surrounding mountains. Enter the trail on the right side of the parking lot as suggested in the AllTrails app, and you'll save the best view for last!

Pretty icy but the lake at then end is beautiful and it’s an easy climb

Hiked after fresh snowfall, knee deep at places. Distant mountain morning glow at sunrise. Peace and quiet on the reservoir and villages below. Occasional animal tracks crossing the trail.

Definitely a good amount of snow and slick spots, but worth the trip. Our two daughters, 6 and 9, did fine. I fell twice. Most of it is on a gravel road. The big lake is beautiful. Sun goes behind mountains around 3:30 right now.

Open, lots of snow and a little ice. Wife and I just did this as our 2nd hike ever (just moved from SC) rookies don’t shy away it’s an easy path (basically a service road). Picturesque views, have fun

Trail is indeed open and lovely!

Great for novice hiking with great views!

Open today! Lots of people hiking. Gorgeous as always.

Anyone know if it’s still closed?

Amazing family hike! We arrived at 9:45 on a Sunday and found a spot right at the front, mostly because there was a steady stream of people leaving. We have been looking for a hike our almost 4 year old could do to build stamina and not ask to be carried constantly. She walked almost 1.5 miles on her own, mostly due to the creek running alongside for us to stop and play in every few hundred feet and the CONSTANT stream of other kids around us. We saw lots of strollers (BOB or similar would be best) and families. We had a blast with the almost totally flat trail and other families around us. Great family outing and great for building stamina for little hikers! ❤️ we will be back soon!

Not bad, good for a short hike and time in nature. Good for families and dogs. Pretty busy on a Saturday, by the time my group left at 11am the parking lot was packed and many people heading out to the trails. I liked this and would be a good hike for my small dog.

Excellent easy trail for kiddos. I walked this with my 4 year old and my 10 year old. great views and easy walk! You dont want to miss this if you are looking for something non strenuous but beautiful!

Our 5 and 3 year old enjoyed finding walking sticks and drawing with them in the little bit of snow there was left! Quick and easy hike!

Hiked 9/12/18, 30 hours after spending a night in the E.R. due to a kidney stone. Best scenery of my week in CO. Tons of yellow willows to contrast with the pines, water and mountains. The trail is easy in terms of elevation and length, but muddy and rocky in places. I recommend walking clockwise (southeast on the north shore) so you're looking toward the mountains.

Its a short walk but offers spectacular views and tons of small wildlife. For the amount of effort it is quite the reward. Don't miss this hike!

trail running

was hoping to trail run this and loop it twice. not quite enough in shape to get the initial uphill at a run. ended up looping the lake three times and running down. That was perfect for my usual 3 mile run.

The 3 seniors in my group, 79, 83, 83, rate this trail moderate mostly because of the many rock slides we had to cross. The views of the mountains across the reservoir I was spectacular.

The dog restriction is unfortunate but was bound to happen. We would frequently hike out dog poop that others had left behind on this trail. To add insult to injury, the town didn’t have any disposal bins at the trailhead, so often times we would have to drive into town to dispose of the waste properly...that certainly didn’t help matters, I’m sure. I wish there was a way to punish the irresponsible dog owners and not all of all of us (some poop cams following by some social media shaming?) because this is bound to happen on all of our trails. If the city willing to spend money to have police officers patrol the trail, then please ticket the people not following the rules instead of punishing all of us. It’s frustrating to the good dog owners out here who are cleaning up after the bad ones.

Good trail to take to get acclimated- views are good. Have taken 4 yr old grandson up to have s picnic. Don’t let the short uphill climb keep you from going. It is not too bad

Fantastic views, tons of chipmunks, great for a warm up/cool down hike, or a leisurely stroll.

Nice trail for a break from driving. Beautiful views of the lake below.
