Really great. Takes about 2 hours to go up slowly then an hour to run down.

the smoke at the top makes the view unique :)

Nice, easy, hike

I've done this hike many times. it is satisfying for all skill levels. great views and a very short drive from Calgary.

Stunning m. Feels like you are deep in the woods.

Great quick hike you can do after work on a weekday with a rewarding view. I hiked up for 1.5 hours and down for 1 hour. I did it alone and without poles, it was fine but poles would have helped for sure. There are about 3 areas with a very steep climb, but no need to scramble. Excellent workout for sure !

The start of the trail isn’t marked, I parked in the lot where there was a sign for beaver lodge, cross the street and turn right. There’s a little path marked with pink flags.

It was a bit Smokey today you can see it in part of the sky and you can smell it in the air. It was still great regardless.

Bring a lot of water ! I had two bottles and was still thirsty at the end.

Amazing hike with breathtaking views. I would not recommend doing this hike without poles. I also wouldn’t recommend bringing larger dogs as it would be difficult to cross the chains.
It was a challenging hike but completed with 5 hours at a moderate pace with lunch on the summit. Definitely don’t do this as your first hike of the year.

Solid hike, but start of hike not marked.
Trail starts on north side of 66, east of elbow falls parking lot - start on elbow valley trail which has some pink flagging tape. After a few metres you will make a sharp left turn up to start prairie mountain trail before crossing a culvert that would continue down the elbow valley trail east. Really straight forward after that!
Good leg burn with great views. Poles would’ve been nice! 3 hours.

Its in good shape this year despite the hot summer. Great little quick hike.

The view up top is amazing!

I would rate this 'moderate' as opposed to 'hard'. Not too steep in the forest region (which is the majority of the hike), but when you start reaching the top it gets pretty steep. But for the most part, I found it fairly moderate and very enjoyable. Beautiful views at the top. An awesome way to spend a Sunday!

beautiful stream. easy walk with kids.

Great hike. Has beautiful views both to the mountains and to the prairies. Definitely a leg burner and a bit sketchy coming down even with grippy hiking boots. We unfortunately got stormed on at the top so we took cover in the trees ! Great hike for dogs as well :)

Super Smokey when I did the hike but the landscape at the top was still very beautiful! Can only imagine the view when it’s clear. It’s not a long hike but the incline is extreme. If you want to skip leg day for the next month I recommend, just be warned your legs will probably be out of commission for the next few days

Hiked this trail with my dad and our friend from Ireland! He'd never done a hike like this before so it was a great first experience. When we reached the chain it was sleeting, made for a sketchy crossing. The scree ski on the way down was a highlight!

excellent hike! the initial downhill descent was deceiving, but it gradually climbed from there. Great hike through the trees, the path was nice and wide. I did not donthe final climb to thr viewpoint, only to the too of the first. I found it to be difficult but once at the top, the views were great! did this hike round trip (including stopping for lunch at the top) in 5 hours. My fitbit calculated this hike to be 15km (without going thr extra distance to the viewpoint)

This was a good hike. Well marked trail, beautiful views of the mountains at the top. When you get to the last little trail don’t stop! It looks deceiving but go for it! It’s worth it. It wasn’t too hard but you will get tried on your hike back up to the parking lot.

Wife had to be rescued on top as I pulled her shoulder when trying to help her climb up the scramble. My first hike and definitely a challenging one especially for beginners. Going down was the hardest as we were sliding down. Very memorable.

Very basic hike, but I enjoy escaping to here once or twice a year. Great if you don’t want anything strenuous, or are physically limited or have small children! Fun to walk around with your thoughts if it’s not too busy and there are some nice small waterfalls!

Loved this hike! Get on the trail and power it up! Definitely some character building moments but those make for the best summits! Mountains 360. Highly recommend this hike for those considering a solo hike

I did this 2 days ago with my 10 year old dog. He needed to stop and rest a lot, as it is very steep and a hard workout! We brought one big thing of water but it was gone before we reached the peak. Bring extra water! The top was so stunning and worth it. However I have been 8/10 pain in my legs for two days now, with difficulty doing stairs (I'm medium fitness level, walk a lot and run). Make sure you stretch! I personally wont be bringing my 4 year old on this one, but I did see kids.

Easy hike with kids!

Super easy hike. Lots of shade for the puppers on a hot day like today. Too many people for my liking though.

Great little hike but there is a lot of people there

I have done this trail few times before the fire. bit of a steep walk but amazing views when you get to the top, maybe next year it will reopen.

Wowzers! This one was a challenge for me! I’m getting back into being active soo this one was tough tough tough.. I managed to make it to the switchbacks but turned back before climbing further! Going is not so bad but coming back is brutal. A lot of downhill on loose rock path. Definitely got a workout coming down and of course as you come back and get closer to parking, you have to go up the really big hill that you came down starting. Keep that in mind when hiking. Save some strength for the end! I managed to get through all the while dealing with foot pain (prior injury) however.. the hike is beautiful! Will definitely going to be coming back and concur the mountain up to the fire lookout!!

This is a nice, short walk that's not too far out of Calgary. An easy place to bring folks who aren't used to hiking; very family friendly. There was a big group having a BBQ at the base of the trail the day we went - lots of kids splashing in the water and parents chatting around the picnic tables.

the views are so worth it! make sure to go right so that you can run down the scree at the end!

Super workout and yes it’s really steep! They view at the top is worth it though. Did the hike solo without poles.

Great hike with amazing views. Not a busy trail which was nice.
