If you’re looking for a tough hike, this is the one. You start by descending 3 miles, pretty easy!!! The tough part is climbing the 3 miles back up. Me and my husband did this hike in over 100 degree temperature. I got heat exhaustion and felt like I needed medical attention. I will never do this hike again in the heat! The water we took was useless on our way back it got hot, felt like we were drinking hot tea, Be careful with this hike!

There is NO loop!! Very important to know in a hot day on a difficult terrain. Do not forget your water.

steep hill but worth the hike Lake Romona is beautiful

This was a great trail! Tough in many places!! Started in santee and went up the back side to the top of south fortuna. Ended up following the trail down the back of the stairs and all the down to the mission trails center. From there took the road back and cut thru the dam to get to the grasslands back to the santee side parking lot!! Ended up being just about a 12 mile walk. Loved every minute of it!! Bring lots of water... and if your anything like me.... lots of SNACKS!! Lol

The part of the Cowless side was very crowded, 80% of the people didn’t wear a mask, so not very enjoyable. The second part to the Pyles peak was great, very few people, some shade and not very steep.

Bring extra water almost passed out.

Suppose to be easy but lots of rocks and bugs and steep incline. We somehow missed the loop and ended up at bird rock trail (bushes overgrown and hard to see).

Hiked this trail 7/2. Last 1/3 closed due to snow, however easy to bypass and moderately difficult to reach the end of the trail if you’re willing to scramble up some snowy patches. Overall enjoyable hike with amazing fees throughout!

Great!

Like everyone said, IT GETS HOT. The only shade is provided by the beginning of the hike. Then it’s just you and the sun. The destination is well worth it, though!

I did this hike by the old water dom it has a long walk on the asphalt and once you get to the river you take the kwaay-paay-peak-trail it's a step hike all the way to the peak nice work out I love it I recommend it it nice to do it early in the morning.

Great trail. The app says the trail is 4.5 miles up and back. Actually it is 6 miles. You go down the canyon to the end of the trail where you see the waterfall. Then you hike up the canyon to the trailhead. Very little shade. Wear a hat and bring lots of water.

Very nice trail, easy on the way there but challenging on the way back up. Beautiful waterfall, very refreshing water. It can get a little crowded, but there’s plenty of rocks to climb on. Definitely recommend it!

Great trail, especially before the break of dawn to catch the beautiful sunrise. Enjoy!

Beautiful hike! Started at 5pm and the waterfall was perfect. Definitely recommend starting at 5! Bought permits but no one was there to check it. Also bring extra clothes to go swimming!
