Awesome hike! We wished we would’ve had our yaktraks for the way down, but our trekking poles helped with the ice. Beautiful views and not too busy around 10am on Martin Luther King Day.

west climb up was fairly dry with more rock and steps. east side coming down lots of ice at top and mud on most of trail. microspikes were perfect again made life easy. lots of people on east side slipping in non hiking footwear. beautiful views of boulder. nice and different angle to view the flatirons.

Challenging climb going up but great hike. Pretty icy at the beginning of the descent on the east side and then very muddy for a bit until the trail leveled out and got more dry. Just wore hiking boots and we were fine. Had our dog and there were lots of other friendly dogs.

Great workout. Hiked trail on 1/19. Pretty muddy because of melting snow. A few spots where yaktrax would have been useful but not necessary.

Some packed snow and icy areas but no need for micro spikes. Great views into RMNP.

This is a great hike - easy to get to (which account for the amount of traffic it gets), nicely paced circuit and great views throughout. I went clockwise (up west, down east) which probably was a mistake given the conditions at this point. The west side has a small bit of mud and ice and patches of snow but overall was quite dry. The east side was pretty snowy and icy at the top, and then mud at mid-elevation, and then conditions improved towards the bottom. So it might have been better to ascend on the east side and go down the west side. I had hiking boots on it which were fine, no need for microspikes. Lots of people had dogs but they were all well-behaved and friendly.

Very icy near the top. A bit of a scramble too, most dogs wont make it the last .4

Super well-marked, fun trail to run. The elevation gain is gradual enough that it's a good workout, but not killer. Trail is really rocky in some sections, though, which makes running a little more hazardous, but not impossible.

Icy and snowy on trails! Need micro spikes or at the very least hiking shoes!

went further today!!

Hiked 1/12/2019. Lots of snow, microspikes are helpful. Trail is easy to find. Started at 8:30am, only passed a few people coming up, but trail was busy on our descent.

A very nice trail to start of 2019. Nice views at the top of the trail. Great photo ops.

Great hike and definitely doable and safe for children. I did see the same pit bull the lady below complained about today. It was super friendly and gentle. Unlike her I didn’t see a single pile of poop so not sure if she was looking in the trash or what lol.

Extremely unsafe trail to bring younger children due to lack of enforcement of off leash dog rules. There are literally hundreds of piles of dog excrement within a few short miles.
I can no longer bring my nephew here after we were rushed by an off leash pit bull. Of course the owner thought it was funny. Dog owners in Boulder County are the most entitled and ignorant bunch of people you will ever encounter.

Great morning hike before brunch.

Went with Greeley Active Adults Group. Started about 11am and returned about 2:15 pm. Took trail to intersection with Michigan Lakes trail, about 2.5 miles up, then turned around to come back. Trail had about 6 " snow and was ideal for snow shoes. Weather was cloudy with light snow coming down, temp cold but no wind. Surrounded by trees, it was a winter wonderland! Also saw some cabins and water infrastructure. A great snowshoe for beginners and for first of the season snowshoeing!

Date: Jan 8, 2019
Cost: $3.00
Conditions: Sunny, calm, Mid 20s

Pros: Gorgeous in winter. Easy (relatively flat). Suitable for snowshoes or cross country skis. Amazing views of 12,484' Nokhu Crags and later what I believe is 12,270' Iron Mountain. Lovely cabins about 1 mile in, fantastic photo opps.

My experience: Snowshoed 2.1 miles in, had lunch and turned and went back.

Cons: I've heard it can be trecherous when windy.

Great hike for winter! Beautiful views with lots of warm sun. No dogs, but fun for kids on bikes. Little steep at times but overall great for the entire fam!

great day. Busy but, good. I will be back.☺

Great hike in the winter.. Not as many people, no snakes and there is actually a waterfall (frozen today)

Really fun trail with wonderful scenery!!

No dogs allowed. Easy enough hike with decent views. Better hikes that allow my dog though.

Easy to moderate hike, quick and beautiful.

Hiked the trail today. Well packed fresh snow, no ice today like previous times. Didn't even get out my yak tracks, no need. Beautiful hike, deer were out wandering about.

Missed this hike for 17 years driving from FOCO to RMNP... Great hike with rolling hills and great rock formations.
My bride of 37 years & I thoroughly enjoyed this "walk in the park!"

Trail is super challenging, but interesting and engaging to run the whole way through.

it is one of my favorite trails and the prairie dogs are sooo cute

Great little trail with nice views

Cool hike on a low visibility day. Definitely want to come back in summer

Hiked this trail on 12/30, west side up and east side down. The west side is steep but beautiful, with no ice, and the east side was also scenic with only a couple patches of ice. A great afternoon hike!
