this was a fun hike. got to see a bunch of cows as well.

Such a sweet hike with some breath taking views right in our back yard... you get to feel disconnected from everything as if you were in Julian. That last part to get to the top gets a little tricky since it’s covered in bushes and the trail markers don’t start until you get to the rock of the summit.... the old mines and Jeep are some super cool things to check out to keep your mind distracted on your way up! I usually don’t take water but thought I should for this one and even then was really thirsty at the end after downing two liters... stay hydrated and enjoy the views!!

Great views and great workout both ways

Saturday, 11/10/2018 completed The Warrior Challenge Hike supporting our Veterans Day 2018. Triumph at El Cajon Peak, signed the official Peak Log and located all 3 Geological Benchmarks. Tallied up 11.39 RT mileage and 3,936’ total elevation gains gains. 2nd time hiking the El Capitan Preserve and only made it El Capitan Peak back on 12/22/2013. 5-years later, 60-lbs lighter I now have sense of accomplishment being this is labeled the hardest hike in the entire San Diego County! So steep with numerous peaks and valleys to trek through I developed cramps again but all worth it at the end!

Great 10 mile hike!! I found this mountain to be very hard in the sense that is none stop up hill and down hill from beginning to end. It was a challenge!!! You definitely need plenty of water and snacks to replenish your energy.

Best bang for your one day hiking buck! Well marked informative mileage signs with elevation profiles. Only out and back trail in SD County that is up hill in both directions.

Great hike! Probably best to do in spring when every thing is green. Nice rolling hills! Not much shade

Beautiful hike with lots of ups and downs. There are a few steep spots that will get the lungs burning. Lots of great views along the way. Probably best in the spring because of wildflowers or after rain as there is a creek.

This was one of the best hikes! Highly recommend it

Pretty good. The first several miles are tree lined and shaded then it gets out in the open. I didn't finish the whole thing but really enjoyed the first several miles because of the beautiful mountain scenery and tranquillity. I went out a sunday and it was quiet with not many people on the trail.

we started at 7am, when the sun was nice and finished by 1pm, around 11am the sun killed us, we consumed much more water and stoped more often to rest. 2.5 - 3 liters of water was enough! :) start early, finish before the sun is up!! great hiking!

I love this trail, especially in the Fall. I bring my labrador and we have a great time.

Pick up you dog s**t and trash you filthy animals. Don’t bring your aggressive dogs on trail; otherwise it is a nice stroll.

My girlfriends and I did this hike at 6am and we were back in the car by 11am. it was foggy when we reached the top so we couldn't enjoy the view. It was also freezing cold so we headed back down. It was a great work out for all of us and will definitely come back again.

This hike, while better in the spring, is always a favorite of mine when I’m visiting family in So Cal and have half a day for the drive and the hike.

My friend and I hiked this Saturday starting at 9:15am. It was during the October Santa Ana and now I know why I won't be hiking it in the summer months. It can get pretty hot.
We wanted to have a fun hiking distraction while hiking down so we created names for each of the steep sections that were challenging enough for worthy mention. Here are the names in descending order from the top...
1. Summit
2. Jalopy
3. Tater Tots
4. Feather Duster
5. Hey what?! WTF?!?!
6. Sarah's Song
7. Sugar, please
8. Eggsellent
9. Deadwood
10. Tardy to the Party
11. #11 (we didn't think of one)
12. Knee Break
13. Lifted Spirits
14. Beer, please

See if you can figure out why we named them!

Got a little lost, would highly suggest keeping a map close by. Great hike overall. Little hidden ponds were fun to find.

Short and sweet but it's a steep incline! I like that it also leads you to the Toovet Trail so you can make it a longer hike that is equally as rewarding.

A perfect hike that is a test of endurance rather than being a hard technical climb. The path is clear allowing for a hands free ascent. It took about 4.5 hours, if you time it right, the sunset over the coast is spectacular.

Dope trail dope views dope! there was snow towards the end but didn’t bring micro spikes so it was kind of sketchy.

This is our go to for a quick dose of nature. I often come here to clear my head and get centered.i love this place. It’s beautiful after a heavy rain.

Great transitional trail from oak woodlands to chaparral. There are some exceptionally old oak which do not fail to impress. Highly recommend this trail when there’s some inclement weather, or just post weather.

Not a bad trail. More of a nature walk than a hike. Sandy along the river bed. Several shallow crossings.

Great hiking, with amazing views.

Great walk. it took me 6 hours. if I deduct breaks, I may have walked 5.45 hours. be aware this is wilderness/preserve area. Mountain lions, bobcats, deer, coyotes, eagles, etc can be seeing.

Great hike! Clearly marked, beautiful views, steady climb and well maintained!

I loved this hike. The path is great mix of forest and open areas. The first part is with good tree cover and you are passing through a forest, parts of it have a enchanted vibe. Then around mile 2 it opens high bush layout and then changes to open plain with short grass. I saw plenty of birds, rabbits, and squirrels. On this day, I only met other hikers on my way back, just starting for the day. The final prize is awesome. Eagle rock, as you approach it from afar it does look too interesting, but once you circle around the final turn, you understand! Loved it! The hike is little away from things but worth the drive.

This allows dogs- not sure why it says they are not allowed.

Great hike that connects to 3 other trails. It’s a great but hard work out, with awesome views the whole way.

Great hike, nice views, not too strenuous and beautiful weather

Beautiful hiking.
