It was a very long hike that let to the valley top on the opposite side of the falls. I was hoping more to be up close to the falls.

Great panoramic views throughout the trail. Even though this is high up there is shade at regular intervals on this trail in summer which is a welcome relief. Went after a week of on and off raining, the trail was very very slippery. Be careful if you're going after snow/rain, some of the rock scrambles and descents my grip was slipping, especially the steep rocky section by the stream crossing. Plenty of deep crevasses to hop over and a few scrambles near drop offs--keeps the interest and adrenaline going. There are two rock formations that are similar, apparently Gertrude's nose is the one with the larger outcropping. You can take Millbrook Carriage back for a longer but more gentle way to end or to MM trail to Lake Minnewaska for a steeper route.

Looked for but didn't see many blueberries at all, sadly. Plently of huckleberries along the way, though.

I am a 67 year old weekend hiker and I would not rate this trail "hard" it is, in my opinion, "moderately strenuous" it is less than 700 foot up and back down the same switchback trail. It is nicely shaded in summer. I will have to do it again in winter to see the views of Bristol Mountain Ski slopes. This would be a beautiful hike through the October hardwood foliage. At under 5 miles this is a nice little 2 hour walk in the woods. Use the All Trails app or you may find you've taken the trail less traveled by. I used All Trails and that made all the difference.

So many beautiful views on this loop around Gertrude’s Nose. Loop itself was about 6ish miles, with just under two coming in and out from the parking lot. Not sure about folks who don't find this a difficult trail - either they’re stroking their egos or I’m nurturing mine!...you make the call *smile*. Lots of irregular terrain, steep spots to climb - up and down, and large slippery rocks with water crossings on the path. That said, I’m no pro hiker and I found it totally doable. And, despite it being a Sunday and there being lots of folks circulating by the lake, I was solo for nearly the whole loop.... just ran into one duo toward the end. (Maybe because it was later in the day, ~3-7.) I wanted a challenging new trail with lots of natural beauty and definitely found it!

Hit a hive a ground bees on green trail off of this trail...very bad...just warning anyone who takes white trail to be careful they swarmed us and stung us

Once you get to the peak, the view is amazing. But be prepared for lots of walking. Bring snacks and plenty of water.

A word of warning. This is a beautiful walk along Peaked Mt. Brook to the Pond. The Easy rating is appropriate here. But the trail up from the pond has steep rocky sections. It is enjoyable and the views make it worth the effort but it does require effort.

Absolutely beautiful views!

this was and awesome hike a bit longer then what I'm use to but pretty easy hike we stopped once on the way in. I will suggest anyone trying to get to the bottom of the falls to bring a rope that would have been very helpful.

Here for the Cayuga 50 with lots of great people. Beautiful area.

Great hike with beautiful waterfall at end. Never too steep.

We hiked with kids and our dog. The shallow creek near entrance is nice to cool off your feet and dog.We had the whole hill to ourselves. Trails can be confusing because there are many deer trails that lead to thorny meadows or people's farms. We got lost but eventually blazed our own trail back down to the road. We survived to tell the tale and felt very proud. Will do it again in winter!

on White Trail

I went on the White trail at first and then went on the Red trail so I could have a view of the bay. My mom and I ended up getting lost, but we had a fun time. There was so many bugs.

Great hike with my youngest. After the rain the falls was flowing nicely and the Hudson River was being enjoyed by numerous rafters. 4hr and 20mon with some time spent at the river.

Come for the workout, not the scenic views. :) Actually, some lovely forest/trail views if you like that. Challenging uphill trail. But nice area.

My 1st ever trail; you'll love it. great view from top. Hydrate well

love to return

Love it here. Great hiking for dogs, even a separate swimming section for them in the large falls swimming area. Busy but not so crazy busy that it’s unenjoyable. Apparently you are not supposed to swim in any other area than the large designated area but we did and so were a lot of other people. It was super fun. Just be aware that you can be fined for it as we were told by a policewoman on the way out.

Nice and easy hike that was great for my dog with shorter legs! After seeing the falls from the overlook it is worth it to take the trail to the right (on the way back out) to the bridge and follow the stream to the top of the falls. If you want something a little more strenuous take the trail further down to the Hudson River. Steep hike back up but the river is peaceful and great for a dip on a hot day!

The views are great and the trail is well-maintained. Good for beginners, I say.

Awesome views

a very long 3 miles. there's alot of walking on rocks and many tree roots. very hilly terrain. allow 3 hours each way. The falls were ok. nothing spectacular

Harriet HollisterSpencer trail system is much larger than noted on app.I use the S6 loop which is marked well with yellow trail tags and is an awesome MTB trail 7.5 mile loop. Also have seen hikers, horseback and such out there.Complete snowmobile trail system marked as well and much more trail for all to enjoy.Again it’s a much larger trail system than noted.

What an amazing hike. This was my first hike of the season, so I was a bit out of shape and found myself struggling to make it to the end. This is about 7 to 8 miles long. The hike can be difficult at times bc some paths are slippery while some are very rocky. In the end it is all worth it. The scenery, the peace, the smell of nature and feeling of achievement is all worth it. I took both my dogs w me. They were troopers! My advice is to take some snacks and plenty of water.

I can’t wait to do it again in the fall.

We liked this hike just fine. It does have several points where you are just walking along a road or through parking lots, which isn’t ideal when looking for a good nature experience. There’s lots of water features and a lot of fun places for kids. The biggest drawback is probably the number of other people on the same hike and in the same area.

Beautiful and easy. Great swimming possibilities. No bugs today.
