Gorgeous views but you have to work for it! The fall colors are in full effect & we were surprised to be greeted by snow along certain sections of the trail.

The start of the trail is quite steep & definitely gets your heart pumping & calves burning. The scenery is beautiful & the lake at the end is worth the work. Certain parts of the trail weren't marked as well as others but there were several groups of hikers so we followed the footprints in the snow higher up.

Wonderful day hike!

Nice hike. I think it’s a great spring or fall hike I believe in mid summer there would be to much exposure and to hot for me. Great views pretty much the way. The road up wasn’t too bad but not for the grocery getter. Hard to say between a 4/5 it was very nice when I was there with the changing of the season with a little snow and the colors.

I have chronic pain conditions that often prohibit me from walking much, but I got lucky with this trail. With places to stop and rest all along the way, I was able to cover a lot of ground here. And it was BEAUTIFUL. It's sad that it suffered suffered such a close call with a wildfire, but was well saved and still magnificent. It is truly a hidden treasure in the gem state.

Did this last Saturday. Could not believe there was snow on the trail. Beautiful hike. Great reflections on the lake

Nice north face trail. Lottsa beautiful folliage, solid incline, and stunning views. Will do it again next year!

October - Early Fall

Lone Lake offers easy access to some beautiful views of a lower alpine lake.

Much like Stevens Lake, what makes this lake appealing is it’s location. Near the freeway and only requiring only about 5 minutes of mild service road driving makes this a great hike for people that aren’t equipped to hit more treacherous mountain roads.

The trail itself is relatively easy, about 2.5 miles to the lake, and the elevation gain isn’t too steep. Should be able to reach the lake in about an hour and a half.

I wouldn’t recommend backpacking for this lake. We only saw one decent campsite around the entire lake. Definitely stick to Stevens lake for that.

Finding the trail can be a little difficult however. We were actually stopped by a group informing us that we were going the wrong way, and that they hiked 2 or more miles without finding the lake. On further investigation, the trail listed on AllTrails starts on a road, and then exits onto a more abandoned looking ATV trail, before the actual trail is marked and starts. The only marking to indicate it is the trail is a small little sign that reads “Trail” that isn’t completely visible from the road.

Aside from that, would definitely recommend this one.

This is a nice up hill mountain hike to no where with some nice views. I found the trail to be a bit rutted up from dirt bikes but not to bad yet. We had one pass us on this narrow other wise quiet trail. The colors where great today in the rain. If you’re in Wallace and looking for a little up hill workout this is great.

Hiked to upper Stevens and stayed the night. The trail to the lake was well traveled and was a lot of fun to hike. The autumn colors were amazing, the mountains were red at the top and yellow and orange plants near the trail. The waterfall this time of year was barely a trickle, but it was still neat to see the large granite formations and crevasses where the waterfall was.

Camping at the lake was fun, but got below freezing and was very windy all night. We even had snow falling in the morning which was actually a treat. There are about four good camping spots at lower Stevens and a couple at upper.

I would recommend the hike for anyone who likes short hikes up hill and great mountain views.

Great Hike! We had the 4 year old in tow and he made it with no problems. Little breezy.

I did this trail with my dog last weekend. It is one of the most beautiful trails in the area...very esthetically pleasing. It isn't a difficult trail and would be great "date" trail or reasonable for bringing the kids. It has rich history as well. The overall area is well cared for. You would also be able to get grandma to certain areas as it starts out paved and then it is reasonable level in the beginning, so enough to allow someone with limited mobility to enjoy the scenery, fresh air, and piece of history.

This is a gorgeous trail and my favorite for bringing new hikers or backpackers to. The scenery is great with lots of visual changes throughout.

Beautiful trail, gorgeous small waterfalls. We picked a perfect fall day! So many colors! Not hard at all, just a couple short steep areas.

I hiked to Upper Stevens Lake today. The autumn colors are here! Get up there, before they are gone!

Took this hike on Labor Day Weekend. Beautiful! Loved the all of the waterfalls.

Beautiful trail with the sound of the stream always nearby. Not being in good shape, the uphill was hard for me. I had my 12 yr. old daughter with me who had no problem. Once we arrived at the overlook, we wished we could have seen the tunnel up close. But there was no trail to the tunnel. Some people must have gone beyond the fence and made their way down to the tunnel, but probably not supposed to. We saw a few people on the trail; 15-20.

Turnoff is a little hard to find. We had to go past where maps told us to go. Very easy hike! We took a group of 5 kids. The hike is roughly 3 miles round trip unless you go around the lake which is very steep and tough. The view is incredible.

Wonderful stroll through some great trees. Excellent for young hikers.

Wonderful trail. I would highly recommend reading “The Big Burn” before you go. It gives a history of the fire that made this trail famous. It also gives a perspective of how tough those fire fighters were and what strong leadership Ed Pulaski and others provided in saving so many lives. Great hike for kids to learn about an important story of conversation and the formation of the US Forest Service.

Well maintained with mile markers every quarter mile and interpretive signs along the trail

beautiful old cedar trees, I wish there was more info on ages and history, pretty far out on dirt road to get to hike. very easy for the kids, all in all pleasant hike

Great trail! My friend & I day hiked in with our dogs. The colors are so beautiful right now. the hike starts off with a decent incline and levels off to a big open valley before a final smaller incline up to the lake. There's an option to hike to the upper lake as well. There is also a waterfall about 1.5 miles in if you go off the beaten path. Nice Idaho gem.
