Went up 1/16. That first portion was all mud and ice.
Immediately used yak trax. I wore the trax the entire time. Mostly powder packed, mostly not slippery but occasionally.

Had to be more careful than usual going down the final scramble from the top due to melt on rocks.
If you’ve done this trail before, you’ll be fine.

Nice little Sunday hike. View at the top is incredible. Justin dropped his phone in a crevice but I saved the day with a long stick. Superb hike for when you want to sweat a little but not die completely.

Family and I moved to Denver a week ago and this was our first hike. Beautiful scenery during the entire hike. We did the Morrison slide and reached the summit. Unfortunately there were storm clouds gathering so we couldn’t stay there long! We’ll definitely be back

Did the south loop this morning. Snow was packed down well, a few icy spots but went well without spikes or snowshoes. Muddy at the lower elevations near the east trailhead.

Great loop if you’re in the mood to hike but not kill yourself with ridiculous incline. Beautiful views throughout but the summit by one of the falls is

One of my all-time favorite hikes! Close to home but it doesn't feel like a lame weekend warrior kind of trail. Great starter hike for the inexperienced.

beautiful scenery!

Did this hike on 1/11/19 after 6 inches of fresh snow (and still snowing) that morning. It was beautiful in the trees with all the snow. Can’t comment on the views because it was cloudy and snowing hard. Incline was tough with all the fresh snow, would recommend spikes!!

Did this hike on 1/15/2019 in the late afternoon. Still completely snow covered from 1/11 snowfall. We did not have spikes/yaktrax and still completed this hike with our dog with relative ease. Rather slick on the packed snow in places but overall made it up okay. Difficulty is moderate I would say especially with the packed snow. At the top there is rock scrambles to get to the views but it was worth it. Beautiful short hike with the snow cover. Good views at the top after the rock scramble.

Perfect. Yak tracks or microspikes help but not required.

Great views! Well worth if you’re already around! Take yourself to the top!

Very enjoyable! Plenty of trails to pick from. There’s about a foot of snow right off the trail but much more if you go too far off. You see elk and wildlife here and there. Woods but if you go to perimeter trails then you see meadows. I used my basic spikes (smaller less heavy duty) over my hiking boots and it was a great hike!

Completed on Sunday, January 13th: Beautiful trail!! Pretty snow packed and it was a sunny day so it got pretty muddy in spots, be careful going down. Also, leash your dogs as it’s a leashed trail. It doesn’t matter if your dog is 10 lbs and friendly as heck, still needs to be leashed (my family member had a problem with an unleashed dog and disgruntled owner). Overall, awesome hike!

amazing winter hike. snow was loosely packed, not icy. I hiked in just boots with good grip. get out here when the snow is fresh, it's stunning!

Went on a fresh snow day. It was stunning great views wildlife and moderate traffic. Under the snow there was packed ice but the drag snow kept the walk stable without having to wear spikes. Snowshoeers were out and about. I’d definitely do it again!

Fresh snow but I made it most of the way with spikes and poles. Just follow the power lines - but be careful, parts of the lines were covered in snow. About a mile up the snow got deep enough I decided not to try going farther.

Excellent hike!

Completed on 1/10/18. Pretty easy trail but had some incline! The red rocks trail part of the loop is basically flat and the Morrison slide portion had the most incline. Good hike to do by myself because it was somewhat busy for midweek at noon. Tiny parking lot at the trail head, so many people parked on the side of the road. Not by the amphitheater, so there are no bathrooms FYI.

Hiked this trail 4 days ago. It was icy with light snow coverage. I used micros which helped a great deal. The frozen waterfall was beautiful!! A great winter hike. I look forward to doing this hike in the spring.

Almost nothing but straight up and straight down the whole way. Just a few not too long flatter parts. I didn’t mind going up and didn’t find it too difficult. Going down was not so enjoyable, however. It took longer than anticipated having to be careful not to slip on the loose rock and dirt and by the end my legs were tired of the constant weight forced down on them with each step thanks to the steepness. I guess that’s why it’s rated difficult. My girlfriend who is afraid of heights was not a fan of the steepness, loose rock and dirt, and scrambling towards the top. Pretty extensive views of Denver, surrounding towns, and Rockies throughout, including 360 view at the peak, though honestly the view of the mountains at the peak wasn’t quite as beautiful as I was hoping. Some of the further peaks were covered by snow storm which may have affected that. Also FYI super windy as you go up. Little chilly at the top. I will probably try it again. No snow or ice as of today, 1/7.

trail in great shape for this time of year, no ice!

Good hiking trail. Beautiful view of Mt Evans from the Brothers Outlook. Trail had some snow pack on it but didn’t need micro-spikes to hike it today.

Great Mountain for training.

The trail was a mix of gravel and hard snowpack. Crampons would be helpful, as well as gaiters to keep the mud off of your pants. Nice easy/moderate hike for young kids to start working on their trail legs. Great for us out of shape parents too. Love this as an easily accessible winter hike close to home. Highly recommend.

Fun "wander around" trails. Worth the trip.

Good cardio hike near Denver. "Castle" is a bit of interesting history.

Easy hike near Denver. Falls aren't awesome. Worth a trip to get some Vitamin N.
