One of my top 5 front range hikes/ trail runs!!!! Amazing views the whole way up and down of the front range, Denver and red rocks. Then once you get to the top you get amazing views of the larger Rockie mts!!!! Had a blast!!

A few ice patches today so yak tracks could make you feel more stable but you'll be taking them on and off the whole time. Honestly, not necessary today.

NO DOGS ALLOWED.
Nice little hike, would do again!

long hike but well worth the veiw from the top did it in sept had nice weather

A few icy patches, but otherwise a v nice hike!

I went to hike this yesterday morning/early afternoon (12/7/2018) and the road we came in on was closed about 6 miles out. I did not try to loop around to the west nor did I head back east to go over and up and see if that pass was open. Beware.

Did this hike 11/30/18, started around 10 am. Was beautiful. Spikes and poles were helpful to about St Mary lake. Went a little further but snowshoes definitely are recommended for heading up any further. I will definitely be back with my snowshoes!

Very doable hike during winter. Water fall & streams were beautiful frozen. Took my 12,7&4yo. Only saw a few other people.

Absolutely beautiful hike. I went early Friday morning and had the trail / glacier all to myself. I was glad I had my spikes and hiking poles. I was able to get quite a ways up the glacier. Snowshoes would have been helpful toward the top.

Beautiful. Trail is packed down at this time. Microspikes are helpful but probably safe without them. Beautiful.

Beautiful hike! Easy! Great views!!!

Pretty icy but the lake at then end is beautiful and it’s an easy climb

I’ve hiked this trail multiple times. Was virtually empty today. You do need micro spikes to stay safe on the ice.

Close to Denver with beautiful vistas

Beautiful and easy hike. A bit uphill in the beginning. I was happy I had microspikes but snow shoes would’ve been helpful, especially if you want to explore around. It’s windy once you get there. A face cover would be wise to bring in fall/winter. Also was envious of the smart folks who brought sleds for the downhill back!

Pleanty of incline and finishes that with stairs that seem to go on, on. You are rewarded with views that go on forever & an old fire tower that is very cool to see. Very nice hike with many photo opts. Did this hike in July/18 and it was very busy but perfect weather.

Beautiful views on this trail! There is lots of ice on it right now but many ways to walk around it.

This particular trail was closed temporarily, unexpected :(

Top 3 best hikes of my life, (1st being Kalalau trail and 2nd being grand Tetons valley). Beyond spectacular for photography enthusiasts, simple walk in the park with beauty worth capturing in every angle. Continue to crater lake after this short hike and your day will be filled the magic✨

Easy trail, great warm up to the longer hike to the lake.

Definitely a good amount of snow and slick spots, but worth the trip. Our two daughters, 6 and 9, did fine. I fell twice. Most of it is on a gravel road. The big lake is beautiful. Sun goes behind mountains around 3:30 right now.

Beautiful views, lots of people, easy hike.

BE CAREFUL at this point. Mt Falcon trail (Castle Trail) is ok except for maybe 300’ of ice.

Returning on Turkey Trot, or going up Turkey Trot, involves thousands of feet (45 minutes) of hardpacked glass ice, even hard to manage in yak tracks.

Hiked this the day after arriving in Denver. Good warm up hike.

Open, lots of snow and a little ice. Wife and I just did this as our 2nd hike ever (just moved from SC) rookies don’t shy away it’s an easy path (basically a service road). Picturesque views, have fun

amazing hiking, even in the winter!

Snow/ice today and awesome looking.

Like said with previous reviews the scenic trail was closed but I had my skates with me so I put those bad boys on and took a few laps around the lake . Be careful there are some soft spots. 11/12/18

Hiked this trail on 11/10. Like the other two posts mentioned the trail is significantly covered in ice and snow with a decent amount of foot traffic. Be prepared to slide and have a few good wipeouts. The views along the trail are spectacular and I’m looking forward to going back again in the spring, summer and/or fall when the aspen leaves are changing. And yes the 30min drive on the dirt road is pretty rough, but if my Sentra can do it then all other vehicles can also.

Beautiful views! I brought my dog to hike and she loved it- we met several other people with dogs too who were all very friendly. I didn’t wish I had snow shoes until the end when I started sinking in waist deep snow and my dog started disappearing completely under the snow- it was moderately challenging but well worth it!

Hiked this trail 11/10/18. The 9 mile road, like others mentioned, is pretty rough but it was well worth the hike! There’s plenty of great viewing spots on the way to the lookout station. The only thing I’d note is that it was pretty icy when I went. Many people (myself included) were sliding and took some bad falls. However, if you’re prepared for the icy conditions it’s well worth the drive for the 360 views of mountains.
