Great hike. Started at West Lane entrance. Went left at fork and took Blue/Red trail to Blue trail. Nice scenes. Great peak. Took Blue up to Blue/Yellow and cut back across East to starting point. AllTrails said we hiked 4.3 miles and burned 1431 calories. NICE. Definitely got a great workout. Would highly recommend. Can't wait to go back and do full loop.

A really awesome trail with great views. It would certainly be a 5 star review if the trails were marked better. Very easy to get lost. I have The AllTrails Pro and it bailed us out a couple of times.

Very humid August day and rocks were a little slick. Short scrambles over low glacier ridges were a nice mix in, even having to lift the dog up onto some. Canopy covers well and there is minimal sun. If your into mushrooms....this is a good trail for you. The Orange circle trail on the way back cuts through some large boulders which kids would love.

awesome trail, and clearly marked.

Great hike with my daughter. Excellent views and lots of nature. On our way down, 100 meters off the trail we saw a large man like animal eating berries from a Bush. It wasn't until later that we realized we had seen big foot. Great hike.

Quite a picturesque hike with plenty of views, but difficult to follow the trail markers, and most of the maps along trail heads are missing.

Turned right towards Paradise lane, came up the back, a little longer and harder, first time out hope to return soon.

Did this going from lions head to bear mountain in December. Light snow, a bit icy and windy but definitely worth the view for a CT hike. My dog and I were able to take our time and enjoy the view. Took about 5 hours all around including stops

Trail was in great shape. Beautiful views from the top.

I did this hike with a friend for the first time and really got an intense workout. Such beautiful views overlooking the reservoir. Some rocky and steep inclines and we ended up a bit lost until we used our handy dandy map offered with this app to guide us back. We hiked a good 3+ hours and felt invigorated.

for the casual hiker it's a bit harder but worth the workout.

It began as beautiful walk through the marsh and forest. Back and forth. Then...all woods. Lots of long grass. Bugs. All the bugs. The loop wasn’t clearly marked- thankfully we had all trails to help! Probably wouldn’t go again. Or maybe in the fall?

I did enjoy this trail but it was not clearly marked at beginning so I needed this app to get onto the trail. Also, read the signs when parking, we parked next to parked cars and missed the sign for trailer parking. Got an $89 parking ticket.

Beautiful area and really nice trail. If you walk off the path a bit you can find some great and safe cliff jumping areas, very beautiful views too!

Hiked green rectangle off Dunk Rock, picked up Yellow, and looped back on Blue Rectangle. Beautiful New England forest, Yellow could have been marked better.

As a beginner at hiking I found some parts a little challenging then others. The trail was very beautiful with nice view of water. Only thing is I wish it was marked a little more clearly. Will be definitely be going back again. Also not far from black hog brewing co... if your into good craft beer.

The trail had a lot of inclinations and some steep hills

One of my favorite trails... Many trail choices for everybody's liking.

This was my first Solo hike and first hike I have done in about 8 years, it was easy enough for me. The trail was clean and clearly marked. The markers were clear and easy to read as long as you knew what you were looking for (make sure to Google how trail markers work if you are new). The terrain was mostly easy, there were a few parts that you had to climb up or down some rocks but nothing strenuous. it is a bit rocky in some spots but I was fine in a pair of all terrain shoes.

tough for an amateur like me
but I DID IT!!!!

Okay hike. Not very exciting, and never found waterfall unless the spillway at the beginning is it. Trail was not always easy to follow. Probably would have been a little better with a state trail map. Overall good day but not as scenic or exciting as we hoped. We started from the spillway on Trail 1 road.

One of the best hikes I've done. Very difficult at some points but it's balanced with easy spots. Great view.

The only (slight) complaint I have is that the signage could be a lot better. Otherwise, had a great time on this trail! There is a little bit of everything - hills, rocks, beautiful pond views, a few mucky spots (my hiking poles came in handy in a couple of places), lots of ferns, some pretty mountain laurel in bloom. I used insect repellent and didn't find it buggy at all, which surprised me on a nice warm day like this. Only explored the blue trail this time, but will come back another day to hike the yellow.

Beautiful, but certain parts of the trail aren’t very well marked. Be prepared to stare at your phone/map and compass with some regularity.

Great for an after work walk!! Not hard but great to be outdoors and near a lake. They charge to park so that’s the only pitfall!!!

I tried Bear Mountain Trail as an introduction to hiking in CT. I am only moderately fit and only had tennis shoes to wear. The people were so friendly, and both of my 15-20 LB dogs were able to complete the trek. The views were spectacular and there were plenty of logical spots to stop and rest/refuel as needed. We also had cell reception for the bulk of the hike. Parking was the only challenge and you have to take a dirt road to get to where we parked.

I am a beginner hiker and was recommended this trail by a friend that does it often-he gave me great directions. I wanted to have a bit of a challenge without the anxiety, and this trail was perfect. As long as you have a plan going in and pay attention to the very well marked trail, you will have an awesome experience and feel very accomplished at the end. I took blue/red to blue/yellow to blue/ and picked blue/red back to the opening. Stopped to have lunch on the summit right after I picked up the blue trail. Was still done in about 3 hours.

Really enjoyed this hike. Challenging but some cool views with some wildlife. Be careful because trail is tricky to follow with the storm damage
