The lighthouse had just opened the first weekend in May. My 8 year old loved the easy walk. We went up to the top-$5 for adults. Helpful volunteers manned the house.
Tip: you can’t wear a child in a carrier to go up the lighthouse stairs. The lighthouse does sell cold drinks and a few snacks. Open from May to Oct.

Peaceful

The trail is well marked in the locations least needed. Lots of forks with no markings so determining your path is difficult. Highway noise is constant so don’t expect a quiet hike. Lots of up and down hills which makes this moderate. Cute creek towards the end. If I was a local I’d use this for running.

A nice hike through the dunes. We couldn’t go in the lighthouse when we went (April) though I’m not sure if it’s open during the summer season or not. The beach was gorgeous. We only saw a few other people along the way, though I imagine it’s busier during the summer season.

A family favorite

This is the Parnell tower trail and only about a 3 mile trail

This is a great hike if you want something a little more challenging. If you go left when you start the trail, you will have an awesome incline to hike when you finish, totally worth it!

Nice...A little muddy after the spring thaw but it’s great to be out

Such an amazing place. Looking forward to many more adventures and connecting with nature there.

loved the trails, and some off trail areas, too. I like that the trails are more rustic. They were a bit icy today, but still enjoyable.

Great esker trail. During the week is secluded and great for dogs. Spring and fall are very animal/bird active.

Great trail ! 2" fresh snow took the dogs and had a great hike.

Great easy trail to hike with the family

There's a lot more trial system than what's shown here. But it's a fun hike. Sandy trials to wooded trials, fun with a dog!

I was actually able to do a bit of trail running... but there were so many landscapes, I liked the brisk walk as well. My pup loved it too! Very secluded and quiet throughout my morning but a couple school buses showed up as I was leaving (perfect timing!) so I am sure it can get som traffic. When you get to the first waypoint, take the smaller trail to the right. If you go uphill (to the left) you will see the viewpoint of Butler Lake and I thought it was nice finish to overlook this (the trail has you circle back to this point)! You could also climb the steps straight up from the parking lot to get to this vantage point. But I recommend using them to get down to your car at the end! There are some picnic tables near the lot... and some kind of access to the lake near here as well. You will also notice some crossover with the Ice Age Trail. Just follow the AllTrails map on your phone to stay on track!

My husband, 7- month old adventurer, and I had just finished the Lost Lake Trail in Ludington State Park and wanted to get a second hike in near the dunes and to see the light house so we selected this trail.

This trail was less than excited as the start was walking through the camp grounds (bonus was clean flushing toilets!) before joining up on a gravel road. The trail was a gravel road (combo of sand and gravel areas) all the way to the lighthouse. This stretch was about 1.7 miles. Unfortunately the dunes blocked the views of the lake (which you could hear but not see). We were able to keep a steady clip tho and I can see how the gravel allows for a greater number of walkers and bikers to get to the lighthouse.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse was beautiful situated out alone in the dunes. A very kind staff of volunteers allowed us to hangout in the gift shop during a little rain spell and even played a video on the history of the lighthouse for us. My husband climbed to the top of the lighthouse ($5/person and the climber has to be a meter tall- aka baby and I hung out below). The views gained from the top of the lighthouse allowed you to see for miles in all direction.

We cut the loop short and headed back to the car on the same gravel path we came from due to the rain and cool temperatures. The hike itself was pretty windy for being tucked behind the dunes.

Overall the gravel path was disappointing but the light house and views from there were beautiful.

Very nice maintained gravel trails. Not much in the way of distance, but quite nice scenery. Would recommend not going into the caves during warm weather months if you're not fond of large plentiful spiders. Good hike!

Lighthouse was awesome! Overall a great hike. Some sand dunes to traverse that offered a bit of a challenge.

Beautiful hike, but watch your step! The trail starts with a long flight of stairs up to a 60ft lookout tower with incredible views. A majority of the trail is quite rocky with exposed roots. Take your time, watch your step, and enjoy the scenery.

Took my younger brother with me on this trail. It was so beautiful. I like how you get variations of nature from walking in the woods with the tall green stress and thick stumps to walking along side the lake feeling like your around a beach. It was definitely a great time and not to challenging if you don’t mind the inclines and down hills. Would do this everyday!

Nice little walk and nice view of the lake.

Best marked trail for experiencing the dunes.

Super easy trail, but I love it for early morning walks with my dogs. Hardly anyone uses this trail, esp at 6am.

Great trail. Come early in the morning to watch the sunrise on the bay or the fall colors if you can. Traffic on the trail is much lighter then as well.

The trail has a lot of transitions in the walkway surface. With packed earth, gravel, paved, and mulch trail surfaces through out.

The eastern part of the trail is the most serene and offers diverse natural plants and terrain. If you move quietly the wildlife will be plentiful.

Kind of fun to see Lambeau cottage as well.

good hiking, dog friendly. lots of things to see. take a picture of the map before you head into the trail very little cell service and the trails can get confusing.

Fantastic spot! The dunes are incredible, the view of Lake Michigan is serene! It was quiet, not a lot of people. I can't believe this gorgeous spot is in Wisconsin! It is a must visit!
