Love this trail! It can get a little crowded but if you go early in the morning or later in the afternoon you’re usually okay. Also there’s no shade so bring plenty of water!! Both my dogs have made it all the way up and back, it’s a great workout!

This was a beautiful hike but not as easy as most reviews led me to believe. It was not an overly challenging hike, but it was not flat and wide after mile two. It was a steady uphill with very narrow areas and the trail is pretty rocky. My children all made it up and back fine, but their tired legs caused them to stumble quite a bit on the way down as the trail is very rocky. The falls were nice and the creek was nice too. Would go back for an easy backpacking trip.

This is a fun trail to hike, easy with interesting variations with the vegetation. The Marshall Gulch side is very open with some trees and a little creek. The Aspen Trail is true to its name. Beautiful aspens everywhere, nicknamed it the Aspen Forest. There are some young trees growing on both trails, as Summerhaven had a fire some years back. Would still highly recommend these trails. There are connecting trails to these trails if you want to go further. Lots of people and parking is limited. If you park on forest land, make sure you pay the $5 fee as we saw a park ranger giving out tickets when we were there. The fee box is where the trailhead is located. Wonderful hike, picnic areas and Mt. Lemmon has many hiking opportunities.

A very beautiful hike, especially during the fall.

Beautiful trail, but very busy even on a weekday.

Okay, so the reviews on here are where people are claiming the trail is easy and follows the spring do NOT correlate with the trail GPS map on AllTrails. All these nimrods are saying “oh I stopped at the spring” okay well that’s not what this trail goes to on AllTrails. The spring is easy to get to. But that’s not where the GPS ends. It takes you ALL the way up the rim, I’m talking steep inclines, no marked trail, climbing over 1,000 feet in under a mile. I wouldn’t let a kid under 13 do that part of the hike. It goes all the way up to rim road. And that’s where it ends. An anticlimactic, ugly road. Would I ever go past the springs again? Hell no- but the reviews are VERY misleading. Also kind of annoying people rating the “trail” as easy when they didn’t even complete it. That would be like taking the helicopter in and out of Havasupai and then calling the hike easy. Yeah, it’s easy if you only go a third of the way.

So, yeah the creek is pretty, but don’t follow the AllTrails guidance and if you do, don’t go past the spring unless you’re ready for a Flatiron-Esque climb. And ignore all these numnuts saying it’s easy- I hike every weekend, have hiked Humphrey’s, Flatiron, Havasupai, Grand Canyon Rim and I’m telling you the AllTrails GPS marked hike takes you up the damn rim. This is misleading and mis-rated. I’m all for a rough and tough hike but the misleading ranking of difficulty and reviews is annoying and borderline negligent.

I'm not an avid hiker, yet

Although this hike says moderate it is fairly easy. Fun for the whole family! We had our lunch inside the cave (pick up your trash) which was amazing. Beware the rocks are slippery!

Park ranger in the gift shop is RUDE! do not let him discourage you from this great hike.

good luck.

Although this hike is easy, take plenty of water. Beware rocks are slippery. So beautiful and calm.

Park ranger in the gift shop is rude but dont let him discourage you.

My wife and I did this loop over the weekend. The parking lot was crowded, but due to the 9 miles of loop, we really didn’t run into anyone else, only at the look out and then on the boulders. One of the best features of this hike was all the lady bugs at the top- we came across a tree covered in what seemed like a million. We went counter clockwise, and enjoyed the boulders near the end of our hike.

Fun trail with a great payoff at the end. About 4 miles RT. Have to scramble up a little at the end. Not siuitae for young kids or dogs in my opinion. First mile out is hot with little shade.

Nice hike, but can get very crowded. I have done this hike twice, both on weekdays mornings with a 7:30 start time. No line at the rock either time. By the time we started back down there were quite a few people on the trail. It's basically uphill all the way to the top but worth it for that cool photo. It's definitely not a casual stroll, so be prepared for a workout.

Nice way to stretch the legs especially if travelling between the Southern Utah parks and the Northern Utah parks. Sandy finish after around 6km a good appetite builder for lunch ! Combine with the drive and you’ll have a nice varied experience.

Good work out on a consistent uphill slope all the way to the top. Coming down is tough on knees and toes. But , it is all worth it! Good view and yes, the special Potato Chip rock!

Just completed this hike. And it was phenomenal! One of my favorite hikes in Sedona, debating between this and Devil's Bridge. Very well shaded trail with plenty of creek crossings. I would rate this hike moderate based off distance, but the actual hike is relatively flat. We stopped where the water was getting too deep, but you can go a lot further based from what we heard from locals. Be sure to get to the parking lot early as it does get really crowded. An absolute must do hike if you're in Sedona!

Absolutely worth it. Parked further away, and had a nice long walk before reaching the "climb" upwards.

Worth the short, quad busting ascent, and there aren't too many better places to finish in Sedona if you're looking for a great view.

Always a treat! the first time I did this trail was in October and I ran it. the trail is heavily trafficked. surprisingly it wasn't too busy. Out and back 7.42 miles.

I wanted so much to love this trail. It has water, great birds, horses, cool plants, and is pretty unique among places I've been in Arizona.

There was trash everywhere. I just wanted one spot on the hike where my partner and I could sit for 15 minutes overlooking the water without an empty beer can within 20 feet. Couldn't find one.

If Arizona cleans this area up, it becomes an easy 5 stars.

This hike was okay. The views from the peak were nice but the trail itself wasn't very pretty. Lots of overgrowth. Steady climb the whole way, nothing very steep and few flat parts. Thought we would escape the heat but it wasn't the case. Very little shade but nice breeze towards the top. Not a hike we would do again and again.

Nice moderate uphill hike, quite craggy. The final ¼ mile up to the peak is just as the signs indicate, narrow and steep, but not overly so. I'm a flip flop hiker and had no issues ascending or descending. Great shade spot on the peak for a quick break if extending this trail to Lost Dog Wash (nice easygoing extension). Also, keep an eye out for the larger lizards just a little before the first landing. Overall a nice hike.

Super nice seven mile hike on maintained trail system. Many stream crossings and 800 foot rise hiking in.

Fern, oak, elm and pine primal rain forest setting. Inside protected wet canyon under canopy of trees.

Grapes, black berries and small apples all good to eat on the hike.

Stream crossings are slick and mossy. I witnessed several slip and falls.

Great hike. Takes about 4 hours if you don’t take breaks.

It was raining on my hike and was super nice.

$5 cash fee FYI...
Great views... came during Monsoon season and was to watch a storm roll in. On the hike wild boar and deer...
Challenging yet enjoyable!!

Decent hike, super congested. Views are great but better ones can be found in Sedona

My kids 7 & 10 loved it, as did the adults. It’s a little intimidating at the end, but worth it! He most challenging part is the last 1/4 mile so even if you think you can’t make it, keep going!

Absolutely beautiful trail. So much green, so close to Phoenix, and about 20° cooler. The creek is gorgeous and refreshing. The trail runs right next to the creek most of the way. The trail is very easy, very wide, and mostly flat except for a few uphills as you get further in. The waterfall is small but pretty and a good place to relax. Past the waterfall is a more challenging trail that climbs right up the mountain to Promontory Butte, which offers an amazing scenic lookout. I've been to Horton Creek 3 times and enjoyed each time.

Favorite hike in Sedona with breathtaking views at the end. Worth it to take a high clearance 4x4 to avoid the additional walk from the parking lot to the trailhead which is easy, but rocky and somewhat boring. Fairly easy for most of the hike until the scramble to the top which requires some pretty fun climbing to the summit.

Highly recommend this beautiful hike.

Had a wonderful day exploring Sedona, including a hike up to Devil's Bridge. Absolutely breathtaking views!
