I hiked this trail in mid October on a foggy-turned-sunny day with a couple friends. The views were spectacular. Mt. Rainier consumes half your view when you get to the top and St. Helens is off to the west. The hike was really easy and fast so it's a great hike for a half day instead of a full day. Also, the dirt road leading to the trail is long but wide and well kept. I took my Ford Fusion up it at 25 mph no problems.

Beautiful hike, to say the least! Breathtaking almost the whole way, In one way or another.Kicked my butt though.

A must do hike if you live in Washington or Seattle! Great views of greenish blue lakes break up the hike on the way up. Not a super long hike - once you hit Eunice lake, it gets steeper but not long to the top. Amazing view from the peak of Mount Rainier! Drive in gets bumpy about 45+ minutes from trail head.

did this hike last week with a bunch of friends and it was so nice! definitely a moderate hike and it was sort of icy and slippery on the rocks on the way down/up to the lake so please be careful and if you have hiking poles, bring them!

Was there yesterday 10/21. Not as crowded nor as amazing as it was billed to be. We were disappointed by the color. I guess we missed it. No snow or ice. A little mud. No need for traction 10/21. It was a beautiful day.

There’s a lot of switchbacks and is a little overcrowded. Otherwise, it’s a great trail!

Great hike. Good pace to the hike with first 2 miles slow incline and then increases the last mile or so. Snow lake is beautiful. It was quite windy at the lake yesterday. I did the extra hike and checked out Gem lake. It was about 11.5 miles round trip, did it about 4 hrs 30 min. Quite rocky in a few spots, including traversing rubble fields. This would likely be harder for a dog, but was fine otherwise.

I think it’s a little difficult lol. But I also hear it’s really easy. I’ve gone a couple times and the view is definitely worth it. Very dangerous at the top as I know many have slipped and fell at the top view..

When we got to the lake it was nice and sunny, but not much longer when we got to the peak the fog had come up so fast we - couldn’t see anything

Difficult but worth it in the summer time. We took many tests going up but jogged going down.

Love this hike! And I do highly recommend wearing hiking boots/shoes as the trail was pretty rocky. I wore my nikes and I could still feel the rocks through the soles of my shoes.

Such a beautiful hike. I would rate this as moderate rather than difficult. The fall colors are still showing, and we had a clear beautiful day. There was no one in the lookout so we opened a shutter and window and hung out there for awhile trying to think of something inspirational to write in the book there :). The road up does get sketchy in a few spots, but as long as you take it slow it’s not too bad.

We hiked the trail on a beautiful sunny day and the scenery was gorgeous. The 10+ mile gravel road is like a wash board in many areas but there are few potholes. A truck or SUV will have no trouble. A car will have a bumpy, slower trip. It took our group of three 60 year olds and two 30 year olds about 4 hours to do the round trip. We took a lot of breaks, pictures, and had lunch at the fire lookout. The rating of moderate is accurate for this trail.

Simply amazing. A relatively short hike with some of the most breathtaking views at the end. We were lucky to get a sunny fall day and see Rainier in all its glory, along with Adams and St Helens. The drop off the edge is insane, incredible photos for a little effort!

Beautiful.

Overcrowded. Nice view though...

Beautiful trail. A nice gradual incline for about an hour and then you have the most spectacular views the rest of the way. We drove up in a small car (successfully, despite the potholes). The hike wasn’t that difficult, we saw a lot of families with small children hiking.

Amazing views all along the hike! The drive there has amazing views on golden larches too. The last part of the road has some potholes - I recommend having a high clearance vehicle.
I would say the hike is more moderate than difficult compared to other difficult hikes.

Nice view at the top. Well maintained trail that is easy to walk.

Fantastic day for hiking Mt. Pilchuck ( Thursday, Oct. 18). The weather and the view were fenomenal; also very little traffic.

Great experience today! Fantastic glacier view.

Beautiful hike! Not a long hike, but good elevation gain. We did it with a 9 & 7 year old. The kids had a great time, but they are used to doing these types of hikes. There was a 360 view that was incredible.

Beautiful and easy to get done in under 3 hours. Lots of rocks. Plenty of trees. Much chinchillas? I don’t know what they were. I put my feet in the lake and it was cold. The rocks hurt.

I’m not an expert hiker. This hike was challenging and so worth it. Took us under 4 hours there and back with some breaks. Beautiful hike, will do again. Get there as early as you can and where good hiking boots. The trail has some pretty rocky parts.

Beautiful hike and super busy. We got here at 9am and the parking lot was full. It is so worth it the make it down to the lake. Good hiking shoes are a must die to the many lose rocks on the trail.

Amazing hike.
The trail is not as hard as it looks from its distance because the first 1.4 miles are flat or downhill.
Rainier view are along several points of the trail, and the view at the top is stunning.

So beautiful right now! I don’t think the fall colors are past their peak like another reviewer said; I think they’re in their prime. Absolutely breathtaking right now. Well worth it, and a favorite for sure.

We hiked this trail Monday 10/15/18 around 9:30 am, we had mostly the trail to ourselves passing only 4-6 people along the way. The top has a outlook with the shutters closed (for winter) and 360° views of the surrounding mountains, absolutely gorgeous on a clear day!

The trail was marked difficult but I found it to be moderate and would totally feel comfortable taking my 8 y.o & 11 y.o (my kids experienced w/ rock scrambling @ Sauk Mt & Railroad Grade). 2 Miles with decent climb but nothing too intense and along the route, there's some side trails for views (continue on).

The road to the TH was rough after Y.A.B and I drove my Outback w/ all season tires, made it taking it slow. Definitely worth the solitude!

Beautiful hike!! So many colors out right now! It’s cold once you get to the lake so be prepared!

Absolutely magnificent trail. Would highly recommend during the fall season. It took us 2+1+1.5 hrs car to car. It’s an easy hike which is kid and pet friendly. However the drive till there can be tiresome once the gravel road starts.
