The uphill nature of the trail make this a great way to get a good workout in and the views are amazing all the way to the top!

Amazing hike, really enjoyable.

This hike was pretty at the start but the trailhead was not well marked and the beginning was straight up in sand and rocks no switchbacks. After the first 2 miles the trail became overgrown and hard to follow. So many false peaks and I was a bit worried there toward the end I would run out of water (had four liters). The last 3/4 mile I couldn’t even find where the trail was...I was tired of bushwhacking struggling to find the trail and turned around. With this being one of the Grand Slam Peaks it should be marked better and maintained a little more. While the views of sunrise were gorgeous over the lake at the beginning I don’t think I would want to do this one again.

Very pleasant hike. Several spots had amazing views. Good variety in the available views.

It's a small beautiful hike with lots of wild flowers during the spring. Some parts of the trail are deeply rutted however, could use some maintenance.

A couple of friends and I hiked this trail in late June and it was a nice workout. Some portions were steep enough to really make you work and others, not. You’ll have a wide range of views from a river in the distance, to mountains, to evergreen trees at the peak. We had a close encounter with an elk in a beautiful meadow area; in the distance you could see another female elk with 2 calves. There’s a trailhead with parking available. It’s not a hard trail and just what the doctor ordered to “get away from it all”.

The views are amazing. The hike is rated correctly and very low foot traffic. There are a lot of mountain bikers on the trail. Watch your footing, there are a lot of roots.

This trail is great! definitely going to do this at least once a week

Morningstar from the upper lodge to the lower lodge is now marked "Bike riders only".

didn't do the entire trail, but well worth the trip.

Kids made it up an back, though we had to take a couple breaks. Mormon crickets everywhere. Saw a bull snake.

The Trailhead was a little difficult to locate. As you take a right onto East Spring Shores Rd. from HWY 21, keep your eyes open for the 2 mile marker. If you park at the Marina, you haven’t gone far enough. Continue just a little bit, you’ll see the 2 mike marker and then a dirt parking lot on the right (or north river bank). Today, the “gate” was closed so we assumed that wasn’t the proper Trailhead. It was! You’ll follow the dirt road until it dead ends; look to the left, there’s a VERY NARROW route through some brush. Once you pass that, it’s mostly a dirt route you follow. While the hike was challenging, it was doable. We (a group of 3 in our 30s) did not take poles because we’ve never really experienced a need for it in our hiking adventures. They REALLY would have come in handy on the way down those steep slopes of gravel and sand; it’s non-negotiable next time I go! The “mormon crickets” were out in full force and there aren’t many blooming wildflowers out at this time of year.

None the less, it was a great work out with very beautiful views. Make sure to leave a note in the little black tub at the peak for others to enjoy and get an early start. We began around 9:30 a.m. and the majority of hikers were finishing their trek. We only saw 1 more group attempting to summit on our descent.

Others have addressed it already but there is no shade so bring lots of water! Also, due to the slippery slopes, I don’t recommend bringing a dog who isn’t well trained on a leash (if on a leash) because they’re likely to pull you to your death (my pup would)!

Good cardio, but lots of cicadas jumping around (and at you!). Might just be the time of year. Will probably go back in the Fall!

Coyotes reported on trail June 2018. Be careful with your dogs. Fish and wildlife think there is a den there with pups. When gown, probably less of a problem.

Good, clean fun. A solid trail.

Great view the whole way up. Be sure to pack a lot of water as you will need it due to the lack of the shade. Also, note that this trail isn't easy. It averages 824ft of elevation gain the first mile and 968ft the second mile. If going for sunset be sure to bring a headlamp for the trip back down.

Burnt Car trail is poorly marked and we struggled finding the trailhead. We had to hike to the back of the subdivision, walk through a construction area, and follow the map on our phones. It seems to be an abandoned dirt road that takes you through a gate about a mile in stating "Private Property". There are other trails close by that we saw, and we might try those in the future.

Great run especially going clockwise. The ups are in a lot of sand, but worth it once you hit the ridge. Great valley views and then some great downhill bombing at the end. Great loop and even more fun to do it twice.

Read in the Bogus Basin Summer Activities and Trails pamphlet that MTBProject.com ranked this trail as #1 in Idaho and one of the top 40 in the nation, so I figured I’d try it out. Number 1 it is. I hike and bike trails in Boise all the time and this was by miles the best one yet. Beautiful single track for bikers and hikers. The views are those that photographers dream of. The trail itself is very well maintained. And as it says, this is a moderate trail. There’s some easy parts and some where it gets kinda technical. The climbs are excellent, not too easy but not too difficult. There’s some downhill and Bogus even threw in about a dozen berms to add more fun to the experience. The drain off from the snow flows onto the trail, but the people at Bogus are so damn smart, they decided to make rock bridges so the trail doesn’t get eroded and keeps it looking natural. Near the end when you come up to Pioneer Lodge, you can stay on this trail or go onto another. I went onto another trail which was an experience in and of itself.

If I could give 10 stars, I would do it in a heartbeat!! Great ride today. Looking forward to my next ride on this trail

I’d probably like this trail more if it wasn’t for all the Mormon crickets. It felt like there were plagues of them when I went. Other than that it was pretty cool. Wish I could’ve handled the bugs

Great trail..... amazing views!

Good trail to get some exercise! It’s only a little over 2 miles up, but it’s STRAIGHT uphill - so be prepared for a workout. If you are taking a dog, go early in the morning and bring plenty of water for him/her! It’s in the sun the whole way! Overall easy trail to follow and nice hike.

Trial: mostly unmarked
Difficulty: moderately high to difficult
Distance: 9 miles

Check the forecast ahead of time, which could be obvious but just do it and read up on how to navigate a thunderstorm.
The hike itself is absolutely amazing. Multiple outlooks and view points that are stunning. A few outcroppings of rock formations.
Although the trial is out and back there are multiple points to do a small loop, up over a ridge and then going back on side of same ridge.

Good time, located between mile post 17 & 18 on hwy 21, and pass the 2 mile marker on spring shores. Hiked/ran, we summited in 42 minutes and down an 32. Direct uphill the whole way up

Great hike, challenging at parts and hot during the day. Bring plenty of water for your dog as there's no shade once you're on the trail. At the end of the hike, jump in the lake by following the trail near where you parked!

Make sure you go in the morning as there’s no shelter from the sun on this steep trail

I love this trail!!! Beautiful, and challenging!
