Hi all, hoping to do this between tomorrow (21st Aug) and 23rd Aug before heading back to Australia !
call or message me on 8082556073 if you can join! Given it seems potentially dangerous would like to hike this with a group or buddy :)
cheers! Nathan

Climbed waterfalls, slid down muddy trails on backside due to rain at peak! Great hike.

If you’re looking for an adventure then this is for you! You will go through 3 waterfalls and see a beautiful view of the crater. I will warn you that this hike is not for the weak minded. This hike will take patience and physical strength. Pack tons of water and electrolytes (snacks) but try to pack lightly. You will get down and dirty as the trail is ALL muddy. Ladies... try not to wear shorts. Some of the plants are sharp and can cut your beautiful legs. It took me and my girls about 5 hours to complete this trail. That’s with stopping at all of the waterfalls and taking in God’s beautiful creation. Get in the water! Definitely worth it! Another important tip, this trail is extremely slippery. If can bring hiking shoes. I wore my Nike’s which had ZERO traction and I slipped a handful of times. And please... be careful. It’s not a competition. Try to take your time and just enjoy the nature!

I went up yesterday, by far the most muddy and slippery I have seen it so far, be prepared to get wet as the water was flowing though the creeks you have to walk over in the first hour of the hike, it got pretty muddy and wet towards the top. Crampons(spikes) recommended.
I'm going up this Saturday the 25th. if you'd like to join send me a message on instagram @angelo_q or email me at chicolo@hotmail.com Make sure to bring plenty of water and food and maybe some layers because it can get pretty windy and wet up top.

Aloha! Hiked Friday and Sunday. Hiking again Tuesday and this upcoming weekend. Possibly other weekdays too. I have hiked most of the hikes on this island many many times! It is often windy and/or rainy but we never have issues as we always have the right gear supplied by me when we go. If you're looking to hike and want to link up or get some ideas of what this trail looks like feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram @mike.karas or mikekarasphotography@gmail.com. Bring plenty of water for this hike and other hikes out here in Hawaii.

Not an easy hike. Not especially tiring or anything but you have to watch every step due to muddy trail and the stream crossings are no joke. Be prepared to cross a “stream” 50 feet wide and deep enough that your feet/shoes will be underwater. In the counterclockwise direction, our progress was blocked by a large tree and plant with sharp leaves in the middle of the trail. Trail is through a dense jungle and you can’t just “go around.” Did I mention it’s extremely muddy? Also we went in the dry season after it had not rained for several days.
Like others have said, park at the entrance to the residential area and hike to the beginning of the trail.

Love this trail! Took my two littles with me. Lots of water crossings and mud. There’s even some ruins along the way!

Fun hike, but you should be prepare and you will expect very windy, rain and muddy track, bit of rock climbing, rappelling skill will help,.
If you not prepare, you will regret it, bring a snack, plenty of water. Not for a beginner, if you scare of high, don’t do this hike.
I enjoyed though,..

Challenging elevation cw or ccw. I went full loop ccw which I believe to be easier. Cw would have been uphill through brush. Not fun.

You will cross the stream more like 11 times not 8. The falls were going pretty good. The pool was deep enough to swim. May have had some misting rainfall the day before.

Be alert for trail markings. Some places have broken onto the forest floor.

Took about 4 hrs. Bring at least half a gallon of water, snacks and a pack so you can have your hands free. You will use the foot slide in places. Hiking pole is useful in places. Rocks are very slick.

The full loop is for intermediate to experienced hikers. Out and back to falls is for intermediate hikers. Beginners should be very cautious in deciding to do out and back to falls.

So i crashed my racing drone at the hole in the mountain and had to hike up to get it...scotts slippers, loose surf shorts and a tank top lol...i am considered a little overweight and boy this trail took a toll on me. Super nice views on the way there and the trail is fairly easy to follow. All in all i was able to retrieve my drone and make it back down before sundown

Headed up on a rainy day expecting mud and trail to be a little slippery.

one of the best hikes of my life. best of all worlds: waterfalls, crater, summit, creek bed, and everything in between.

Really fun hike, but its definitely a good idea to bring micro-spikes. Many of the steep vertical ascents were difficult to get traction on.

Hey everyone! Planning to do this hike tomorow hopefully it's goung ro be nice out! If anyone wants to join dm jessicalittlexo on instagram

beautiful views, no one around but trail is a bit over grown, bring your machete

NEW ROUTE! We are locals. DONT GO the normal way through where all the signs are, through the short bamboo forest and then into the valley clearing. The state has put up a nice new fence around the whole reservoir and they are actively working on it. Instead. Park in the parking area, go to the Right, where there is a locked fence double door. There is a whole in the left side of the fence. Go through there. Go Left down road, then Left again. Bamboo Forrest and mud.Once in clearing follow the brown signs with yellow arrows. Use your phones Google maps to see the different trail options. Remember, once you hear the Lulumahu stream just follow it up and cross everyonce in a while as needed. VERY MUDDY. Wear correct shoes! Bring clean clothes to change into after.

Great starting trail! Perfect for people new to the island.

Anybody who's going on August 31st/Friday? :) msg me please at rociram_11@yahoo.com

I love it, what's not to love hiking in Hawaii, country side.

Probably my favorite hike on the island. There is a back trail that bypasses the falls on the way down-it's much faster and safer than climbing down the falls. If you do the full loop going counterclockwise look for the turnoff on the right as you reapproach the final falls. It may not be accurate, but my gps always comes in around 8 miles after going from the parking lot, up the falls, around the crater, and down the back way.

Great hike, but not to be taken lightly. Come prepare by having spikes, boots, water, snacks and lots of time.

HFD to resume rescue efforts for pair of lost hikers on Windward Oahu trail
http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/38899705/hfd-to-resume-rescue-efforts-for-pair-of-lost-hikers-on-windward-oahu-trail

Did feel a bit adventures since we lost the easiest trail a couple of times and had to backtrack . My athletic son even continued up a steep mountain side and got to a point above the falls , instead of to the end of the falls. Quite a few people around though so you could find your way by following voices. Muddy, slippery, gorgeous scent of ginger, pretty bamboo. Stunning waterfall! Only wish it was better marked.

This was absolutely amazing. The most gnarly hike I’ve ever been on. I was terrified on the last hour to the top as it was super windy and you are walking on the ridge most of the time. Did this two days ago and I’m still sore. Super worth it but not sure I would ever do it again. This is a HARD hike and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Use spikes if you can - seriously muddy and the spikes saved my life. The way down seemed much easier after what we experienced on the way up but still sketchy. If you do it alone, guaranteed you will find some people to chat with and help you out. I suggest starting before 8am.

5 stars for the hike 3 stars for the description. this is 6 miles "each way" total of 12 miles. Great view, trail is decent and not too busy.

Nice pool to swim in

Hiked this solo on 7/8/18. Forgot to review. Did the ridge starting in Moanalua, down the stairs, back up the stairs, then back across the ridge where I started. That was pretty brutal! 14 miles, 9 hours or so tracking on the Apple Watch. It was rainy for part of it and windy on the sketchy parts. Not for the timid.

Probably the best hike in Oahu in terms of difficulty, beautiful scenery, semi-challenging rock climbing sections, and then the viewpoint from the first peak. We made it to the second peak, but decided not to go all the way to the third peak due to the sketchiness of the ropes on the backside of the second peak. Nonetheless, it was simply beautiful from the top! Highly recommended! Hope the weather is in your favor!
