Lots of snow drifts! The cairns mentioned below were covered coming up the mountain, but visible on the way down. That being said, the crossing was a bit of a “choose your own adventure” situation: forget the trail and try to stay out of the drifts as you make your way towards the pass. Snowshoes would be helpful but bring a map, poles, microspikes and gaiters/snowpants at the minimum. Great views and lots of fun

Great hike! You definitely won't have crazy views of the mountains as a lot of the reviews below point out, but you will still definitely get your nature fix. Microspikes helped a lot as some parts were both steep and icy. Not a great trail for dogs because of how steep it gets in spots.

While there is nothing spectacular about this trail it was a good one to do during a decent snow. The trail was still fairly easy to follow even though no on had been on it since the snow. Keep in mind that no matter which direction you go, you end the hike going up. This hike is mostly through forest and follows the stream in many areas. I would not recommend this one for little kids. There are a few spots with steep drop offs from the trail. With easy access to Denver, this is a good hike if you want to get out in the woods and need something close.

Hiked 11/10. Trails are well packed, definitely need spikes the whole way up. Poles are helpful at chasm crossing. Trail is hard to find above treeline, but is still well packed. Look for the giant cairns.

This trail cranked me.

Not very scenic from the trailhead until 2 miles in. The top of the tree line was covered in snow and it was very windy. By then we were just trucking through knee deep snow. Would do again in summertime.

Loved this trail! Started at the fern lake trailhead, hiked to the pool and made the climb. Very snow covered and a few icy spots. But incredible views at the top prior to getting to the lake. We had the trail to ourselves. So diverse in what you see. It’s a must hike for RMNP!!

Did this hike 11/10 and it was a pretty quiet trail. I enjoyed the hike but the one negative was that there aren’t many good views of the mountains. It was still nice to get out and be by the water which was frozen over in some parts. Overall I recommend doing this trail for sure

We did this loop last Saturday. It was beautiful and very quiet. Didn’t see many other hikers until the last 1/2 mile. Not too much snow or ice. We didn't need the spikes or poles we had along.

Such a beautiful trail. We hiked up on Saturday and couldn’t complete it due to a snow storm and little visibility. Definitely would recommend using yak tracks or micro spikes on a better day. There is snow and ice pretty much the entire trail. There were still quite a few people on the trail.

Great 5 mile lollipop trail, clearly marked. There were some nice creek crossings for the dogs to play in. I’ll definitely be back!

This hike was good to get out and move. Not a lot of sights to see and really only one or 2 that are worth the hike. But there is nothing big to see really at any point. Mostly through the forest, which is nice, but there are a lot better hikes in Colorado. It is nice to be by the water most of the hike and hear that. I was one of maybe 2 people on the trail without a dog. Great trail for dogs as it is not too steep and mostly gradual up and down. No dangerous spots for them either.

Did this hike 8/22/18...for my friends 70 b’day challenge. Very enjoyable hike with wonderful views . We started st 5am to avoid afternoon showers. Trail well marked and thank goodness for the carens as we traversed the boulder field at the top. The donuts tasted soooo good when we reached the top... and yes, lots of people st the summit!

Angel’s Landing, Zion National Park UT. Was the most thrilling climb that I have experienced in a longtime! If you decide to venture to Angle’s Landing you must go all the way to the top! As Elenor Roosevelt famously stated “ Do something everyday that scares you”

Did the out and back versus the loop version of this trail, but ended up at the same lake. Nice hike, not too challenging despite the elevation gain. As many others have said, lots of dead trees along the way.

One of the most beautiful trails I’ve ever been on.

My husband and I (mid 60s) hiked this trail yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. A variety of scenery--meadow, forest, beautiful lake and mountain views. The ascent to Cub Lake took a little effort but was very doable for us. We didn't see moose but lots of Chipmunks were out and about. We found a spot out of the wind to eat lunch while we enjoyed the view of Cub Lake. Would highly recommend this hike. Took us about 5 hours including a lunch stop to complete hike.

I took Chavez to Beaver Brook. Overall this was a very enjoyable hike. Tons of forest, good inclines and declines. Most of the trail runs along the brook which is so incredibly soothing to listen to. There are parts that are very narrow where you are walking on rocks along a narrow and steep edge, but I thought that was super fun. I went on Monday and it was very quiet. Passed a few hikers, but was mostly alone. It was very relaxing and I will definitely do this hike again. 10/10 recommend!

CHASM Lake! WOW! It's everything I've ever wanted in a hike. We started at 6:30am just as the stars were dimming, the sun was coming up and the moon was going down. Once you exit the Goblin's Forest, the views of Longs Peak are extraordinary. This is an epic hike; to be in the valley below Longs Peak is breathtaking. Now, let me add this. To get to Chasm Lake, you need to keep on keeping on. Don't give up when you get to the "vaults" at the intersection. It's at least another mile to Chasm and if you see a small frozen lake on the left, that's Peacock Pool, that is not Chasm Lake so keep going. You have to ascend a very rocky, hilly, ice-covered mountain to actually get to Chasm but when you do, it's GLORY, GLORY, GLORY! I have #hikingfever and this hike has now eclipsed all but one of my hikes ... Hope Pass will forever be my #1 hike!

Super easy hike. Gorgeous views!

Beautiful hike!!

Not paying $9 for a 2 hour walk, maybe I missed a spot where I can get in on it without having to pay but I just followed the apps directions...

beautiful moderately strenuous trail. went on Sat. not too crowded

Taxing uphill and downhill, steep trail! About a mile in, ya really start to feel it in your knees haha. Awesome challenge and an amazing lower body workout! :)

Beautiful hike, follows a creek most of the way which is nice. We went Chavez to beaver brook, challenging at some spots with a lot of up hill, especially towards the end. Some cool spots you can climb up to get good mountain views. Went on a Saturday (10/20) and it was pretty busy but not horrible

Worthwhile! Great lunch spot followed by a rewarding and short walk. We didn’t make it to the end- just did the loop and still lots to see.

This was our first hike on our Colorado honeymoon and it didn't disappoint. We went on a Tuesday in mid-September; the parking lot was about 3/4 full when we arrived at 7:30, the weather was perfect, and the colors were gorgeous! As flat-lander Minnesotans I would say most of the trail is moderate, with the rock-scrambling at the end being difficult. Phenomenal views the entire time, up and back.

Hiked it today with our dog starting from the Applewood side. Street parking only so we parked a couple blocks down from the east trailhead. Good rocky incline that's not too difficult then everything flattens out on top of the mesa. Wide open trail up top, nice and easy hike.

Amazing little hike. Creaky trees and beautiful path followed by outstanding lake. The path along the lake is impossible to find, but bouldering was fun.

Tough but beautiful!!! worth the work!!

Beautiful forested hike with moderate elevation gain. Easy access off I-70. Nice features and scenery including several small stream crossings, tilted metamorphic rock outcrops, and a nice mix of aspens and evergreens. Always a good hike, very tranquil.
