So, yeah, this hike is brutal if you are even remotely out of shape. Even my friend who is in shape struggled. But the view is SO WORTH IT. Don’t give up. I’m a beginning hiker who was rather sedentary up until a couple weeks ago when I moved here to Colorado, and I made it up to the top with my husband and friend in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Took just a touch over an hour to get back down. This time of year is gorgeous because there’s just the right amount is snow and ice. Bring your ice cleats or you will be sorry after bridge 4.

A great short hike. A little icy in places after snow.

Loved it!!

I've completed this a few times!!! I love it, beautiful views and decent hike, despite the elevation change.

Great hike and view that you won’t regret trekking too

better go before more snow comes, only me and 2 other hikers were on the trail, and they luckily marked the way with their feet. Awesome views all around. Bring snow chains if in a small vehicle, I passed a sedan that slid into a ditch in my Nissan Sentra, i had no issue with chains on my tires. snow is about 6 inches at TH, more at the top, very quiet and a nice getaway

I've done this trail many times, but most recently hiked yesterday (11/7/18). It was all snow covered but packed down marking a clear path. Many people went without spikes, but it did make it easier having them from Dream to Emerald where it got a little steeper. The road up to Bear Lake is icy/snow covered but doable in a 2 wheel drive if you go slow.

This is borderline easy-moderate. The majority of the trail was snow and ice covered on 11/10/2018. We had microspikes and didn't have any issues. Would definitely recommend microspikes or snow shoes in the near future as winter starts moving in. The streams are partially frozen but you can still see some water flow - makes for some neat ice formations! The lakes and ponds are all frozen but still very pretty

This was my first 14er. I chose this for my birthday and did it 10/19/18. I did not complete it because I underestimated the snow and attempted it 24 hours after leaving an elevation of 10 feet above sea level. I made it to 13,523 in about 6 hours and back down in 3 hours. I had to turn around because I was going alone and I left a deadline with friends and needed to make it back before they sent a search party. I will do this again in June after acclimating for a few days.

I had 4wd so I got to drive to the trailhead at 5:30am. I met 3 young men walking up the road and gave them a ride and learned they had just flown in from Miami a few hours earlier. We all struck out at 6am but they turned back after realizing they were too tired and in no shape to hike. I learned it is really cold at 6am there, I still have fingertips that tingle.

I learned a lot and can't wait to do this again when I am a little more prepared. The mountains were beautiful covered in snow but man that snow sucked to walk in. I questioned myself all the way down then decided I was coming back to conquer the mountain as soon as I could.

Great trail!

We did the hike in the afternoon on 11/10. Highly recommend wearing spiked boots. It definitely got slick after the 3rd bridge. The trek back was even slippery, with all of us wiping out at least once.

Tough trail for beginners. Definately a good workout. This is also a very popular trail.

Yak tracks were required to make to the falls. This was my first time doing this trail in the winter. The change in the season threw me off and the waterfall snuck up on me. I may have missed it had I not been there in the summer. Waterfall is totally frozen over, but you know its there from the huge slot canyon. If you are hiking passed the falls to the lake you will need snow shoes.

Beautiful views! We hiked it yesterday and the hike to get up there is a little rough but so worth it! It gets pretty icey so be sure to wear proper shoes.

great hike! be sure to wear layers as it is extremely windy at the top by the lake. few patches of ice

Such an incredible view. Need the right winter gear and shoes that can handle steep icy rocks at this time of year but well worth it!

Well marked and great views at the top!

Some pretty underwhelming bridges. I will say the middle of Cheyene Canon was very nice though. It was super windy, very quiet and peaceful, may as well just hang out around the center and views from the side and skip the bridges.

Great there and back walk on a great path - was snowing on the way out, sunny and clear on the way back - great views. Starts at 9000ft above sea level but we were fine

Husband and I did hiked this lake on 11/8. The beginning of the trail was paved road then rocky and about half way it’s was icy. But with spikes, it’s very doable. We saw some people with regular shoes, they were struggled but they made it to the lake with us. There are 7 bridges that you’ll cross. The last stretch of the trail was a bit of an incline but don’t let the height intimidate you. Once you’re passed the incline, you are there!! It’s a must when you’re in Colorado!!!!

The water color was beautiful! The trail is pretty steep, but it’s short enough that we didn’t have any trouble.

Moderately strenuous climb that is beautiful and well worth the view. Lots of high steps can be tough on the knees. Went today and it was snowy and really icy, wouldn’t recommend without snow friendly footwear.

Great trail. My family and I hiked it in July. Still snow on the ground in places. Beautiful views. Bring a camera and a water bottle.

The bighorn sheep are totally worth the hike. I couldn’t believe how close we got to them. I could have reached over and petted one had I not been so petrified that one would ram me!!

great hike. took the kids 3&5. I would say this is a moderate hike only if you are doing the final climb to see the cave entrance.

Trail is indeed open and lovely!

Hiked this trail 10/26/18. If you’re looking for a nice, easy and scenic hike this is the place. Every corner you turn is picture worthy. At the time the lakes were partially frozen over. The closer you got to Emerald Lake the more slippery the trail got. I didn’t need crampons but I’m sure now you’ll need them. 10/10 hike it’s a must see.

Was there on Nov 1st and the waterfall was flowing. There were a good amount of people out so if you like solitude, this isn't for you. It was pretty steep, but short. Took about an hour up, and the same down. It seems easy because it isn't long, but definitely has a steep grade. Note: It was much colder with more wind in the parking lot than in the canyon.

Awesome hike. Not overwhelming hard but tough for moderately in-shape folks. Mostly climbing steps. Gorgeous view at the top.
