Want To Do Map

two thumbs up

It was an amazing last min. trip idea for spring break. Very muddy today but totally worth it and my 10yr old son and mom had a blast.

I love all the dirt trails.

Great trails and all gravel which was nice; however, I went after snow melted and it rained a couple days before and Salt Creek has flooded on some of the trail. Makes for a muddy hike, but not too terrible! Very active on a Monday with families with scrollers and a couple runners. The Mill was closed due to the time of year but hope to come back during the summer months to check it out.

I live only 3 miles away from this place, but hike there 2-5 times a week depending on the season. I never get tired of this spot. It is so inspiring! Great for kids as well.

Fun hike, can be challenging to stay dry in the dells if your worried about staying dry.... I try to avoid it on the weekends as it can get packed full of people in the summer. Winter time is nice just don't forget your snow/ice cleats. One of the few good hiking spots within 60 miles of the metro area.

Nice for running and light dog walks

Nice for a mid-winter walk with my significant other. Trails are paved and run along the river in several places. Some inclines and declines to make things interesting. Not sure if rating at moderate is correct, then again we didn’t walk the whole 10.6 Mile. Might check it out again next fall during archery season.

Rocks are beautiful! Go there for a sunset!

A great hike for a beautiful winter day. Trails go through both open mildly hilly woodlands and flatter prairie-ish areas. Trails nicely groomed for cross-country skiing.

Lovely in December with frozen waterfalls!

Walked with brother Jim. Great walk. Ducks geese. Chilly it’s winter ! Lots of dog walkers today.

Its a nice place, lots to explore but not really as hard as some others get.

love it!

Great for technical trail running - up, down, rocks, ruts, roots - love it.

Great place to ride a bike or walk!

Nice 5.5 mile hike on a chilly autumn day. Very easy walk with no rolling terrain or elevation changes. In the summer it's probably hot with no protection from the sun. Lots of street noise as well.

Nice trail. Not as trashy as expected from reading other reviews.

The trail is currently closed from the tornado damage that occurred earlier in the year, but the park is still open. I don't know when it will open, but look for Buffalo Rock State Park in the Region 2 - NE Illinois section.

Edit: The trail is flat, easy to walk with your dog, and your walking on a wide path with tall grass on either side. The end is a drastic change and beautiful. I went when it was wet on a warm day in January. When it is more dry, it would be a better running trail than hike.

went there yesterday for the first time. Beautiful place. I didn't see any trail maps or markings at all which I didn't like, but really enjoyed the peacefulness of the place.

Great hike. It is connected to a few other trails. A couple of waterfalls too.

This is a nice rolling trail, lightly traveled. It's about 90% crushed gravel with a little asphalt stretch. I did the Night Heron loop first followed by the Riverbend loop. I did all the little spur trails for fun and got in a very pleasant hour of running. You don't need trail running shoes for this run, road shoes will be fine.

NOT an easy trail.. My dogs and I walked it however there is no way I would ride on it.. too many rocks and soft spots.

I'm new to the photography world. So I go to random trails, I literally fell in love with this one, it's very beautiful.

Nice, quiet and fairly easy
