Good family trail

July 2018 - The trail is in two parts, there is the paved trail along the bottom caynon next to Provo River. Well maintained as part of the Provo river trail, many parking lots, and food trucks. The trail to go up the to the mid-point of the falls is pretty skech in places. Very narrow in many parts, and loose shale rock everywhere. There are a few places where the the trail has clearly been wiped out by rock slides and is a little puckering for the less then fleet of footed. There is also another option to get to the mid-point, climb the falls themselves, lots of loose shale rock, water, and steep.

Went on a Saturday in August with my family of four, including a four-year-old and seven-year-old. We got there at 6 AM, so we got on the trail before anyone else, but on the way down it was like a conga line going up to the falls. The trail was beautiful and the falls were pretty. We didn’t let the kids do the scramble up to the top off the falls although I did and enjoyed that little challenge at the end of the trail. The rest of the trail was great for both of my kids.

Amazing views!

I've been want to go for sometime. It was mich more than I expected. view was great. kids loved the rope swing.

I did this hike with a friend of mine and we loved it!! It was the perfect hike, it wasn’t too hard but still gave you a good workout. Mostly shaded which was nice so the sun wasn’t beating on us the whole time. The only thing about this trail was the end was just a dead end? We followed the map and it said we reached the end and it was just a bunch of trees right passed the fort people talked about in the reviews. We went farther past the end point located on the map but it just took us into the woods and led to nothing. So that was a little disappointing but on the way back down we went off trail and climbed some huge (dangerous) rocks and came to a beautiful view!! It was incredible- don’t recommend unless you’re good at climbing and not afraid of heights but it made the whole hike for us climbing up there. All in all loved this trail and will do again!

great hike

Good hike with lots of shade. Unfortunately, there are no signs so we ended up on Indian trail. We backtracked and finally took the saw mill route. Had to bushwhacked but did not make it to the end - it got very muddy and we saw fresh moose tracks. Ended up hiking 5.2 miles round trip.

Short steep hike with a very scenic view at the end . Not one of my favorites mainly because the lack of forest.

Breathtaking scenery, easy trail. Not a lot of shade. Glacier lake at the end with a rope swing if you dare!

Easy hike with beautiful old trees and wild flowers. Lots of shade gentle incline.

Really crowded which makes sense because it's not too strenuous or long so kids can come.

very very muddy right now. We didn't want to slip so we didn't climb down the rock to see the falls. Really pretty hike and worth it for sure.

bring water shoes!

Always a great, quick hike. Hot hot hot so bring water.

Nice short hike to the falls. Trail is shadded well and not super rocky but it gets over crowded real quick, so go early to avoid the crowd and to have the falls all to your self.

great for the dogs. Best to do in the morning or evening because it is very exposed.

a fun and easy trail

Short and easy hike. The only tough part was climbing the rocks to get a better view of the falls at the top. Saw a moose (!!!!) and tons of chipmunks along the way. I went on a Sunday around 11am and it was pretty crowded, but there were still plenty of parking spots on big cottonwood canyon road. From there I walked the .75ish miles on the paved road (FR019) to the trailhead.

Great early morning or late evening trail to run or hike.

We started our hike at 8:15 this morning and didn't see many people. Tip: you can park at the trailhead though this app directs you to park along the Big Cottonwood Canyon road. If you go early there will be spaces; otherwise walk a mile to the trailhead. Bold ground squirrels were entertaining.

This is such an easy hike. Even though it’s short the payoff is incredible. If you need a short break from...anything...this is an excellent option.

great hike with a great view of the valley.

great all around hike not to difficult unless you want to climb up to get a closer look at the falls.

Fun & easy hike. We parked near the main road & had to walk in on the paved road, but it was still fairly easy. You can try driving all the way to the trailhead to see if you can get a parking spot - be careful not to park in a marked spot that says no parking at any time or you’ll be ticketed (even on Sundays)
My two year old hiked all the way in with the exception of a couple rocky spots. Come willing to get a little wet & you’ll have a good time.
We hiked up to the top where you can see the actual “donut fall”. Brings lots of water & maybe even some snacks.

Gets your calves burning. Great for dog, please don’t bring your non-dog friendly dogs though and let them off leash. Please just be considerate of people with dogs on leash just trying to get one with nature.

We looked all over Utah valley area trying to find a good hike for our small family reunion—something young kids, grandparents and pregnant women could do but also something that outdoor enthusiasts and avid hikers would enjoy. This hike was perfect. The drive is scenic and beautiful. The trail is lovely, albeit short, with meadows and (sometimes) flowers and spectacular views right off the path. The view right before the last ascent of the hike is lovely, and those who felt unable to climb the last bit felt satisfied to stay there. The views at the top are splendid though, and it’s not a long climb up the steep part. We enjoyed this trail so much we’ve been back twice since.

Great trail for kids. The last little way up to the actual falls is a bit of a scramble but a fun challenge for the kids. We even ran into a few moose on the trails.

I only give it three stars because the mine was fun for the kids to explore. Very steep loose dirt trails so very slippery. I made the mistake of going with my three young children and dog alone so that made it all the more challenging but even then I can’t imagine this trail being enjoyable without children. The mine is really cool. Bring flashlights or full charged cell phone lights. Really no shade on trail. Mine is nice and cool though.
