great lower body workout! ((positive thinking will make you push forward and up

Beautiful waterfall. Trail can be muddy and slippery. Did this trail in June and no issues with bugs. All up hill on the way back, but can stop and enjoy the view as much as you want. Enjoy!

Breathtaking view from the top. Very very hard hike. Straight up. Was April but still felt like 100 degrees.

I LOVE THIS HIKE! This hike can be as easy or as challenging as you want it to be. There’s a relaxing trail that can lead you in or out of the rocks that still gives you an amazing view (for beginners) or for those who like the “fun” way, there is a wicked awesome rock scramble on the way up the mountain. One of my favorite hikes on skyline. It’ll never get old.

Love love love this hike! Super short and easy. A great one for kids and pups on a hot summer day!

Good hike no fishing spots I think there was a error on this.

Gorgeous scenic overlook. The beginning is straight uphill, and fairly demanding. It’s not an easy hike. The scenic overlook is amazing. Spectacular view of Harpers Ferry. This is a “must do” hike for everyone!

It’s definitely a challenging ascent but well worth it once you make it to the overlook. We watched the sunset and it was spectacular. Highly recommend

Awesome hike with great climbing opportunities

Hill in the beginning is NO joke. Beautiful view and so worth it. Watch out for the runners. Parking is a pain but I scored a spot right at the opening. Tow path isn’t really marked that well so if you don’t park in town make sure you ask someone on the trail what they saw on the last mile marker.

Loved the trail especially the rock scramble. Amazing views.

Really awesome trail. This was my first time completing a rock scramble and I really enjoyed it. Short but challenging hike. Great views.

great hike and great views of Harper's Ferry and the Potomac River

Fun, short trail with excellent views at the end. there was light snow on the trail which made the 2 steep sections a bit dangerous. Completed it with my 4 year old daughter who had a blast. I helped her down the 2 step sections, but she was able to go up them without assistance.

Great hike, the first part offers a nice set of switchbacks t get to the ridge. The view Friday from Big Schloss is awesome.

Most trails were still soaked with water

I definitely recommend this trail if you are in area. the first half mile or so is a steep incline but after that it's smooth sailing. great views of both Virginia and West Virginia. I only saw one or two other groups while on my hike. the parking lot was easy to find and there were restrooms (no sink though)

Long hike down... but amazingly rewarding! The falls are awesome and well worth the hike back up to the trail head.

Such a blast!! I love this little trail. Views are amazing

12/22/2018: A great day hike! The Maryland Heights overlook provides an outstanding view of historic Harpers Ferry, WV. The hike back was mostly downhill, which made for a quick and easy return to town.

Harpers Ferry offers a wonderful “walk-thru” history lesson on various events that took place before and during the Civil War; John Brown’s raid on the federal armory being one such event.

Almost forgot, a section of the Appalachian Trail passes directly through the town. If you’re looking for an overnight adventure, this might be a great spot to look!

Fun little hike. Didn’t get to see the view due to rain and fog, but I imagine it’s worth it if you want to pause your drive to stretch your legs.

I've always loved history. But the authentic Union Army fortifications...the breastworks / rifle pits...wow. Just unbelievable. They beckon the emotions to a high level of empathy. Not to mention the breathtaking beauty of zero undergrowth forest, overlooks and the great exercise. Wonderful experience.

Being from Texas and mostly hiking flat terrain, this trail was all up hill and it was great. Not only is it a historical Civil War trail but it is challenging and beautiful!

We do this trail at least once a month.

left side going down just a little steep. beautiful at end.

Logged 3.5 miles from the Upper to the Lower Parking areas. Very nice views along this loop. The Appalachian Trail was very icy in spots.

Logged 5.5 miles on this hike which included hiking to the top of Dark Hollow Falls and exploring around the Rose River Falls. Nice little loop!

Hiked the upper trail loop today down to the main overlook. I took a very brisk pace and finished the whole hike in about 1 hour 15 minutes.

...pretty sure I saw bear tracks at the top of the maryland heights trail as I crested the ridge. They were meandering from side to side on the trail and eventually turned into the woods.

Awesome rock scramble
