Road was very snowy getting to the trail head. Our AWD Tiguan felt comfortable up til the last 1/4 mile. Snowshoed in, only saw another couple on the trail. Made it about 2mi (of the 4) before turning back. At this point we’d done 1000ft elevation gain and were beat and had lost track of the trail at that point and called it a day. Anxious to try in the summer as snowshoes were a serious workout.

Completed this trail on 1/20/19 and the views did NOT disappoint. We used snowshoes the whole way which was great, def recommend them or at least spikes. The beginning was crowded, congested, and narrow. You are very close to the edge that plummets. Once we got past that section we separated from the crowds and it was really peaceful. Views were amazing. Pup had a great time too! Beautiful day! Took us about 3 hours with multiple stops along the way.

Loved this hike! Great variety. Definitely need spikes as there’s lots of snow, but no need for snowshoes. Loved the variety of the differing terrain, between mountains, through the forest, up and downs. Will definitely do this again soon!

Hiked this afternoon with a pup. If you’re gunna bring a dog, I’d make sure you unleash them for some sections. Gets rather technical with snow and they may pose a risk if on leash. Overall great hike. Gives some great views of the mountain range. Don’t have to but microspikes May be a nice addition for the trail conditions right about now.

Did this one today and this is the second time I’ve done this trail, but first time with snow shoes. It’s one of my favorite trails, but it was sketchy using the snow shoes on the part where the trail is narrow with a little bit of exposure. I fell on my face getting my shoes caught up with one another and thought I was going to fly over the edge and roll away but I managed to save myself lol. Be careful near the beginning and then coming back with that! But it was awesome today. Super windy out by echo lake and then by the reservoir, but other than that, the trees kept the wind from freezing us the majority of the time.

Also both times I’ve done this in the summer and today, we got out to the trailhead by 7/730 am and that’s the best time to go to avoid the crowds.

A good balance between snow and dirt trail, easy to follow. Wear yacktrax.

did this yesterday (1/20) it was beautiful but so windy and cold at the top. I used my snowshoes up and spikes on the way down. the trail is packed enough that spikes and poles would be fine the whole way. great trail with nice views!

Great day hike from Denver! Used microspikes and that was perfect. Lots of beautiful views! Definitely more of a moderate trail in the winter.

Did this today, 1/20! Entire trail is snow packed, barely any ice. Really great Sunday hike, about 2 hours to the reservoir and back (does not really loop). When you start there is a bit of the hike with a sharp drop off but that will end, turn into a regular trail through the trees and then a 1 mi climb packed down snowy path to the reservoir which is beautiful. You can keep going around the reservoir, but I did not have snow shoes or spikes so after taking a million amazing pics turned and went back. Snowshoes/poles would be great but I did this with no problem with just hiking shoes and a 5 month puppy who loved it. It does not really loop, it's more out and back. Can't wait to try this again in the summer! I went around 8am and by the time I was coming back, lots more people were starting, so I'd recommend getting there early for less people.

Did the south loop this morning. Snow was packed down well, a few icy spots but went well without spikes or snowshoes. Muddy at the lower elevations near the east trailhead.

Trail was well covered with ice and snow. I went snowshoeing after the storm to work in a quick hike. I was really surprised for the amount of snow. Probably could have done the whole trail with spikes and you would be okay. Best been to get there really early to get the best work of the snowshoes

Great loop if you’re in the mood to hike but not kill yourself with ridiculous incline. Beautiful views throughout but the summit by one of the falls is

Great trail, started around 9:30, had the entire place to ourselves!

My favorite mt in Denver Metro although usually prefer from the housing area using Nightbird trail rather than Canyon because you have a great view of Downtowm Golden, Coors, and both North and South Table Mts...very rocky and medium steepness

Good climb with camping at the base of the mountain.

Great for hiking in the snow! absolutely beautiful. Trafficked but not heavily. I will be back soon.

Completed 1/15. Pretty snowpacked with ice in some spots. Needed spikes almost the entire way. Beautiful winter hike!!

Fun trail! Packed with snow but beautiful nonetheless. For some areas having trekking poles would make it easier.

Great view, fun hike. There were some parts where I wished I had grips for a little extra traction in the snow but you can get by without them. I’ll definitely be going back when the weather has changed to see how the trail is then and maybe even while the snow is still around.

First ones on the trail 1/13/18, for the most part followed skiers along the trail I was familiar with. We reached a point where the trail was lost and followed up a skiers way for a bit and turned back. We were about .5mi from the lake which was a bummer !!

Absolutely bring snow shoes and spikes. Views are just fabulous

Very enjoyable! Plenty of trails to pick from. There’s about a foot of snow right off the trail but much more if you go too far off. You see elk and wildlife here and there. Woods but if you go to perimeter trails then you see meadows. I used my basic spikes (smaller less heavy duty) over my hiking boots and it was a great hike!

Beautiful bluebird day! Snowshoes were very helpful with about a mile to go. The trail was clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend!

amazing winter hike. snow was loosely packed, not icy. I hiked in just boots with good grip. get out here when the snow is fresh, it's stunning!

Great views along the way.

trail is snow covered but not icy! beautiful as can be!

Excellent hike!

beautiful hike! lots of snow overnight, some spots near the top had almost a foot. we hiked with just our boots but snowshoes for some of the less trafficked trails would probably be better. so much fun :)

Went with just spikes and gaiters. Unavoidably deep at some parts. Waist deep about 0.3 miles from the end of the trail, which was a real bummer.

Few icy spots in the beginning so be careful but it’s worth it

Snow packed, great trail to upper lake. Traction was ideal, snowshoes not necessary at all. Clocked 9.9m, 2100’.
