We parked at the Smoke and Davey Trailhead and took the Neale Trail. So great. Somewhat challenging, very cobwebby at 8 am but found a good stick to help with that. Very well maintained and pretty views everywhere. When the trail crossed the cement path that ran down the center of the trail system we occasionally saw another person but aside from that no other people once we were in the woods. Great views of the lake.

very well marked, mostly shaded in the summer, trail appeared to be cared for (only a few weedy areas), some ticks even with repellent

Love the waterfall!!
Nice hike and several benches to sit take in the scenery.

The waterfall pictured in this listing is on the Old Kate Trail (at the same location), _not_ the Whitetail Trail.

The trail is well maintained and part of it is a boardwalk. There is a neat waterfall along the way and plenty of bluebird houses, though I didn't see any bluebirds this morning.

Really fun and pretty! Nice short and well maintained. Great Sunday morning hike if you’re looking for something quick just outside the city. We saw a woodpecker at the top of a clearing. Way cool!

cute little trail, cleared well, and my sister and I loved our mile walk

Will be coming back! Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!

Kinda boring but overall not bad

Well-established trail, novice trail user appropriate. Water, shade, free parking all available at the trailhead. Perfect for a break from the urban/suburban environment without a looking drive.

awesome trails...... alot to choose from ......bathrooms on site....... you could easily get in 15 miles of hiking in a day here...... handicap accessible also.......

I truly enjoyed my hike there!!

I will start off with saying,"there isn't a trail around Smithville lake thst isn't worthy of going to see."
All the trails link together and can be a bit confusing at first. Trails are aging. but they are doing a great job at keeping them in good shape. I recommend these trails to anyone, they provide alot of shade as well as open areas, thst on most days, you'll be able to get a good breeze blowing across the lake. some days you'll appreciate it other days it will be your worst nightmare. Come on out and see for yourself, trails just don't get much better than these.

Lovely and scenic little trail for a short walk. looking forward to hiking here again in the spring/summer when things green up. Many benches along the trail to stop and take in the views.

Great trail. Quite, and great for birding. Definitely will go back in the spring to see all the trees bud and the stream flow.

Beautiful short little trail. 10/10 would recommend for a nice easy walk

I enjoyed this trail with my daughter during an off season time. We didn't see many other people so that was nice considering they say it's heavily trafficked. The views were nice and the trail was easy to follow with places to take in the views.

Similar to my experience on McAdoo Trail--way too muddy to venture far on this trail. We made it to the small pond, then turned back around. You reach this TH after going through the main entrance of the Park, turn left at the Visitors Center and follow the road out of the park to Hwy DD. Good road signage to get you to Opossum Trail and to McAdoo Trail.

Pretty little waterfall. I went in Jan, a few days after some snow and freezing temps, and although the weather had warmed up, there was still some ice in the water making the experience more unique. There were a few slick and icy parts on the trail as well.

My favorite trails in KC. Best sections are: Lakeside Speedway for rocky sections and then awesome lake views; TNT for woodbridge creek crossings and fantastic fall foilage; Happy Jack for the tree canopy. The singletrack is amazing. Asphalt a good alternative when it’s too muddy. Tons of ways to mix up trails and never do the same route twice. Dog friendly, keep them leashed though.
