the trail was great not much water but still a great view and great pictures. but like everyone says the last part of the hike is all up hill to get back to your car so defiantly prepare for a work out

WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE. Loud, trash littered by the trail, and people playing music from their phones while walking on the trails. If you’re seeking solitude and a dip in the lake to cool off this is not the spot for you. Probably best to go on a very early morning. The location is beautiful, but the cons far outweigh the positive aspects in my opinion. Could probably be a better hike if you go further into nature away from the lake.

Nice day hike. Wasn’t much water at the waterfall but did find a garden snake and turtle there.

The waterfall itself is currently a trickle ending in a small pool. It’s still pretty. The hike to get to it was lovely, very green, lots of shady trees. Like folks have already mentioned that last half mile back up to the parking lot is rough and exposed. Almost no shade. Be prepared to sweat and get a good thigh workout. Also watch out for the gnats that follow you all the way through the hike. They wouldn’t let up!

Like everyone else said, this hike has some pretty scenary but the end is a huge disappointment. I guess I should have read the reviews more carefully but you really just end up at a gate at the precipice of Malibu lake... So close, yet so far. Wish it would have ended up at the lake so I could check it out.

I would rate this as really easy. Mostly flat with one part that has a 10 minute incline you have to hike.

One way took me about an hour.

Great hike...

Given the heat and lack of rain lately, the waterfalls were more of a faucet left on by accident. Still, would come again because of the hike to the falls. Shaded and beautiful.

As others have said, the first half mile or so from the parking lot, on the paved road, is a doozy. Be prepared to work to get back to your car.

Come early, bring a lot of water and yes, bring bug spray.

The first part is a bit difficult on the way back. Other than that it’s a beautiful trail.

Has it’s moments where it gets a little steep but overall a good hike.

Beautiful trail, easy once you’re off the paved portion, the paved area is very steep so it had a a level of difficulty to the trail in the way back. Lot’s of cottages along the path that make this the enchanted forest. Decent size swimming hole and waterfall at the end. An enjoyable hike. Many trails off this one, not always clear on the descriptions which trail they are referring to.

One of my top hikes in LA!

Lots of gorgeous views, just far/ close enough to Hollywood.

The "description" is totally inaccurate and people can get lost if they follow them!

Park at Buckhorn Day Use NOT Campground. Ignore where the trailhead is on the Alltrails app (the map trailhead looks like at the bottom of the ski hill. Who the hell would hike up or down that??) From the DAY USE lot, walk directly across the street and go through the white metal gate. After a short while you'll see a SMALL post with the word "trail" (Mt Waterman Loop is scrawled on it if you look closer) on it. Follow that TRAIL up (left). If you go straight it's just a fire road which is steeper than the left side with not much to see. The left TRAIL side has all the views and much easier of an incline.

The alltrails map is accurate the rest of the way. It will come in handy as the trail becomes unclear many times.

Please fix the description!

Awesome cute trail , can be difficult every once in a while but over all a really calm hike !

Took my 3 year old with no carrier on hot day, bad move. Outside of that, nice little hike to the waterfall. We splashed around for a bit and made our way back. Would for sure do again with a carrier.

Nice place to visit beautiful easy trail
The trail itself is pretty clear and easy to hike
Be prepared to pay for parking (ticket otherwise) you need some sort of pass -
Equestrians do not visit during the weekend there will be no parking for trailers -go during the week -
There are TONS of poison oak but trails are pretty clear (so stay on it ) bring bug spray - the only down side was it’s VERY rocky for horses towards the end closer to falls -fine for hikers just be careful if you have equine friends joining -will definitely be returning with my pup for a good hike the scenery and sound of the running stream is nice .

please avoid the night hike! We encounter 4 aggressive mountain lions. We didn't get to finish the hike. follow skyhighhiking on I.g for more adventure.

Not the most spectacular falls in the San Gabriels (especially in the summer), but well worth the drive. The creekside trail is mostly shaded and passes come quaint cabins from the early 1900s. However, the first half mile or so down to Roberts camp is on a paved, unshaded road with about a 12% grade, all uphill on the way back, so plan accordingly.

Pretty easy hike, until the hike out. This weekend was super hot so it was rough. Bring plenty of water and take rests.
My doggy was tuckered

Great hike! Don’t forget your insect repellent!

Nice hike with the kids. Graffiti was disappointing but we enjoyed ourselves very much.

This used to be one of my favorite hikes. I have not been on it for about a year. I was so dissapointed today, because the graffiti has gotten way worse. It used to be just at the mine itself. well now it's all the way along the trail, even on Trees. Somone needs to find these creeps and spay paint all over thier bodies and see how they like it. Disgusting and very sad. We went this morning, the view is still amaxing from the mine. We went up super early to avoid the heat, so we didnt see any hooligans. it was very depressing to see the destruction of nature.

Great morning hike to the Waterfall. Going down is easy, but going up is a bit challenging.

My favorite easy day hike in the Angeles N.F. I love everything about this trail--the huge ponderosa and sugar pines, the rocks on top for scrambling, the view from the top. It's also super fun to mountain bike!

You’re drawn in by all the photos you’ve seen of the mine and it’s window framed view of Thunder Mtn, Mt Baldy, and Iron Mtn. Well, the other side of this popular and easy hike is that it brings taggers, punk kids that litter, and folks that just want to get drunk and high at the mine. One and done.

This is me and my K-9s favorite place to go if we have a free weekday off! Otherwise weekends suuuuuuuuckah! It’s super shaded and a great work out too! Dope little water splash at the end where we chill and eat some lunch! Either way be cool and respect Mother Nature and clean up after your self there’s more and more trash along the way and it sucks cleaning up after other people.

If you’re willing to go off trail a little bit, it’s the most fun spot in Malibu

Nice and cool down between the trees. Once down in the canyon area the trek is pretty leisurely. I ended up jogging back from the waterfall with my partner.

We were two families with kids aged 4 and 5 with us. It is a great hike with lovely weather. There are some rocky narrow patches but nothing that cannot be done if the kids cooperate. The mine is quite old. Nice view of the mountains and the river basin. We also encountered a mini waterfall near the mine. It was quite refreshing. The trail is partly shaded. Parking lot is big. We reached at 11.30 am on Sunday and there were lot of parking spaces left. The restroom on the trailhead - not clean. The greenery on the trail is really welcoming and we saw lots of beautiful wildflowers. All in all - a nice family hike on Father's day!

Very good trail, on the way back you go to a big steep hill, but every else was fantastic.

Good easy path ways, clean and nice wild flowers to enhance your nice peaceful hike. Save your energy for the return as there's a steep climb back up to civilization. Don't forget to bring your adventure pass! Parking can be made possible via valet service for $20, parking on the side of the road or if your lucky in the parking lot.
